- moisie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Of course UFOs are real. Whether they're aliens is a different matter.
- inactive, on 10/27/2007, -3/+6alot of idiots get important jobs.. look at our president
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I got my proof 5 years ago - I seriously saw one. I was hitting golf balls in my buddy's yard when we saw it float over. it was gigantic - took up the whole sky and just floated over ever so slowly (and silently) and went off over the treeline. by the time we climed up on the house to watch it some more it was gone. it was the coolest, freakiest thing I've ever seen. and I think sci-fi crap is lame. this thing was crazy... there's no way the government could even think about building something like that.
anyway, just my 2 cents, and you guys won't believe it, but they really are as real as the planes flying overhead. I thought it was the end of the ***** world. haven't seen anything like it since, and I don't plan to. if the US gov't really is planning on launching missiles at these things from the moon (wha?) then they're just wasting even more money. it'd be like sending mosquitoes at a charging elephant. - skater2968, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2At powercow: perfect statement, couldnt've said it better myself. This guy has issues. I like conspiracy theorys just as much as the next person, but when high level governmental officials publically state this, all the conspiracy feelings (that cool feeling you get knowing the man is trying to hide something from you) wear off. Oh well, this guy's a crackpot. END OF STORY. (accepts governments bribe) ;)
- -=IRonGRundy=-, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can't believe the flaming this post is getting! Take a look at the evidence all over the WORLD. People see and experience UFOs in every country of the world and have done so for centuries. All you have to do is take a step out your narrow mindset and look at the mountains of evidence that something is going on. UFOs are real. The question "do you believe in UFO's" should never be asked. You don't need to "believe" anymore, you just look at the evidence. The real question is "Have you been EDUCATED in the existence of UFOs".
- Corrosionx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I for one welcome our new Canadian overlords
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I never believed in UFOs either. then I saw one.
- elfguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I guess the US isnt the only country with nuts. They are everywhere !
- farrc, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1all people who mock the UFO subject are closed minded. Do yourself a favor and research before you make a fool out of yourself. Start off with the disclosure project first and then have a look at http://www.youtube.com/user/aceBryan7ox. Well if you dont want to believe you will at a point
- fyre2012, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what if he's right?
and whats with the massive number of dumb ***** americans who can't think outside their small foxnews-driven existance?
The greatest conspiracy is the lie that there are no conspiracies. - echimu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Heh now we got UFO stories... anyways if life exists on earth it may also exists somewhere else
- Makyo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My husband pointed this article out to me. I thought it was a farce... until I started clicking through the links to the connected sites. These people are serious. They have a website to pention the Canadian government to "... hold public hearings on a possible ET presence, and what Canada should do."
- bitz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2How the heck did this junk get so many diggs? There is no such thing as ufo's, magic, god and whatever other bunk.
Then again I'm just a insane atheist, wft do I know anyways. - theWaterboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1--what would Brian Boytano do? Blame Canada!
- Oriole27, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very interesting. But seems a bit too far-fetched to be believable.
- FeedTv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So does this mean our government is filled with burnouts?
- ericpp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Hellyer
- WackyT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A UFO is an unidentified flying object. I've seen UFOs also, but I don't think they are alien though.
- jefferson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1To think that we are alone in the universe is ignorance, to think they would come here is idiotic!
- nymphetamine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1old news. ufo's have been around since the 'olden' days. i still digg it.
- baltakatei, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2^_^ I think it's best to keep a few looneys around since a few might be on to something.
- TwoSlick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"took up the whole sky and just floated over ever so slowly"
So how many other people in the neighborhood/city saw this huge thing? Somebody would have had to taken a picture of it. Did it make it on the news?
Count me as one who doubts your story, unless there's more proof. - rydawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Proof anyone? The lack of proof is telling.
I call publicity stunt. He wants to be the center of attention.
But on the technology side of things:
I highly doubt that we have the computing power to target something accurately in space. That's a lot of space out there. I also imagine that something with the technology to get here with the intent of attacking would have far more advanced technology than us. So us firing at it would be like firing a slingshot at a tank, and would have about the same effect....if we even managed to hit it.
Of course this is all academic, because IF there is an intelligent species with highly advanced technology out there (I doubt it), and they've been here since Roswell, they've done a heckuva job of hiding from us and could probably take us out whenever they want to. That is another clue that us fighting them with our own technology would be next to useless. Spitting in the wind.
btw, I'm watching War of the Worlds tonight. Does anyone but me see the irony here? : P - bahamafan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is this Minister, the paranoid Mayor on Family Guy.
- Kivel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is somewhere between interesting and insane. I'm just not sure where.
- dstart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Of course UFOs are real. Whether they're aliens is a different matter."
- rydawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1btw, a UFO is not necessarily Extra-Terrestrial. There are all kinds of secret government projects that noone knows about.
For all you maritime Canadians, think back to the whole "Agent Orange" fiasco in Gagetown, NB - stilesja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Our willingness to write this guy off as a nut is only evidence of our extensive brainwashing by the government to write off anyone as a nut that poses alien theories. If this guy has some sort of evidence of a cover-up then let it be shown. Otherwise, I await his upcoming untimely death in an auto accident.
- boardo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0frickin aliens and ***** man...
- TigerClaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Interesting, But I don't think the US Military would be capable in fighting off an alien invasion, You have to take into account that the invaders might have weapons there far superior then any weapon on earth. If you watch the movie War Of The Worlds, There is no way in hell that humans on earth can survive such an attack especially if it was caught by surprise.
- iFindout, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"They said this day would never come. What are they to say Now?"
- leadx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^^^ Cool pic.
- Malakin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The guy started to believe in UFO's when he was 83 years old. I can't believe this made it to the front page.
- nmccreight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Because it is a _Canadian_ saying, and I quote "so the vast majority of U.S. officials and politicians, let alone a mere allied minister of defence, were never in-the-loop."
He's Canadian. This is a US matter. Plus he never would have gotten clearance. So how would he know all this if he wasn't making it up? Do you really believe for a second that the US would ever tell Canada first _anything_ of this magnitude, instead of say, Brittain, or one of our other close allies? - whereisian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dude's a crackpot and has been shunned for more than 30 years. Shame on who ever posted this story - it's not new, it's not news, and it's barely interesting. No digg.
- chrbeam101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0there is definatly another life form out in the univers or maybe even our galaxy somewhere. its hard to think that there isnt. but when i say lifeform i mean anything from a small cellular structure to some kind of animal. there doesn't have to be some super smart advanced race that can do scientificly impossible things for there to be aliens.
- Raian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I believe him... why else would China be so interested in going to the moon all of a sudden.
- kalessin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oh yeah, almost forgot this one.
http://www.azfamily.com/cgi-bin/video/wmPlayer.pl?title=www.azfamily.com/20040716_UFO.wmv&vsect=News - samfrimp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As I posted on /. not 10 minutes ago in reference to the same story (and it was closer to 40 years ago that this idiot was a Minister, a_trotskyite, my lad. I was barely out of diapers and man had not yet landed on the moon. Oops, did I just say that?)...
I've been a politico in Canada for nearly 20 years professionally. On and off Parliament Hill - mostly on. Paul Hellyer is a certifiable wacko. Full stop. Anyone who knows anything about Canadian politics knows Hellyer's record. He was first elected in 1949 - around the time Strom Thurmond first became a U.S. Senator. Hellyer is about as swift - even though Senator Thurmond is two years gone. Indeed, the colourful Senator could probably best Hellyer in a debate were they both to square off today - Thurmond in a casket and Hellyer in the flesh.
Pay this man no mind whatsoever. He's an idiot who once had a job with a title. Talent or smarts are not prerequisites in politics, after all. - navster15, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As a current student at the University of Toronto, I am really surprised that I needed to hear this on Digg. Then again, this campus is home to a whole host of crazies, and a former minister ruminating about Chewbacca coming to see us may just not be weird enough.
- sam54m, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I knew it...:D
- binarypower, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0UFO = Unidentified Flying Objects
If I flick a (edited for taste) across the sky and someone spots it, but doesn't know what the hell it is, it technically is an UFO. - everfresh59, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's amazing how much American Society relies on the "NEWS" to come to an understanding on wether it's "true or not". You've basically based your decision on wether to believe in things or not through CNN or BBC?
Just remember that the U.S. spends the most money on defense. Defense from what? Talibans mofo's from bombing buildings? Cuz you guys spent a boatload of money in defense back in 2001, and it didn't do *****. Americans spend money on defense, not from what war they want to interfere in on Earth. But the war that they fear the most from the sky.
American feel the need to control nuclear weapons, because they were warned from E.T. when they decided to be the first to use it. They now have the responsibility of detaining nuclear weapons from the rest of the world. It's not because they're power-feens, it's because they were the first ones to dip their fingers in the cookie jar. - gwjc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I believe.
- bill_g, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wait a minute. The world is full of self-described smart people (like me) who believe, first, that the Einsteinian prohibirion on faster-than-light travel can be broken, and, two, that the universe is chocked full of intelligent life.
Well, folks, think about, If the universe is teeming with smart lifeforms, and if they can travel faster than light, odds are some of them are dong that, right now. - Murdock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that it has never tried to contact us.
Calvin & Hobbs - CanEHdian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"and approached Canada’s Parliament in Ottawa, Canada’s capital,"
Does anyone else find it kind of frighting that they felt the need too put that in? - curt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.exn.ca/dailyplanet/view.asp?date=9/27/2005
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/andrew.johnson907/PaulHellyerAtTorontoConference-25-09-05.wmv - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0don't diss canada..... there is a reason why the post says "former".
no digg - ramsinks.com, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The UFO craze was in the 80's... let go.. just like the hair cut.
