Note: All you guys had to do was follow the external links on the story and type in the name of the island. - gamabunta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://www.antarctica.ac.uk/News_and_Information/Press_Releases/press_pix/16_2005/Montague-Island_scale.jpg
- trampish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why no ground teams taking uber high-res pictures? What happened to the adventure of science? All they seem to do anymore is sit in their labs, take low-res satellite pictures and post submissions to digg. No diggity until we get some real pictures.
- amitrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1now thats what i call REAL GOBLET OF FIRE!!
- elpayo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Researchers from the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) and the Hawaii Institute of Geophysics and Planetology (HIGP) were alerted to satellite data showing a large and fast flowing lava flow that is pouring into the sea like a huge waterfall."
Cool. or to steal a line from Paris "That's hot." - danaucpe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I imagine this is doing more to melt polar ice caps then all the greenhouse gases in the last 50 years. But just wait, next summer we will be hearing all about how polar ice caps are at their lowest levels ever.
- zerofocus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the photo was taken in sept. 05 whats it doing just getting published now?

+digg - matus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0makyo, thank you, I know all that.
Still, it's just a nicely painted BW (most likely, I'm not sure) image, an "artistic impression" of some sort. Nothing to do with a real stuff going on out there.
"False picture", according to ptknight, although it's probably nothing but slip of the tongue. - JamesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"I'd give my right arm to be down there now."

What could be good about "false colour image"? - ptknight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I always wondered about false pictures and never bothered to search about it.
Deep stuff, makyo!
Thanks - Makyo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"False color images" are used all the time in satellite & astronomical research.
The false colors are used to call attention to details that aren't easy to see or that can't be seen with the human eye (e.g. wavelengths of "light" that are in or beyond the infrared and ultra-violet ranges).
And getting a satellite image is the first step towards being able to get funding to put a team on the ground at the site. And -- perhaps more importantly -- the image provides information about whether it's safe to put people on the ground. - BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0No video. =(
- EmileVictor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0What pics? Just a satellite photo.
