Yeah, I'll bet they did... - MrBabyMan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+71An excellent question, Dr. noupsell. I've already begun writing the grant proposal.
- mrgreenjeans, on 10/10/2007, -9/+76"The researchers were surprised that almost no one in the business had noticed the pattern before."
It's hard to keep track of your cash when it's going up your nose. - mozzer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+52It's fascinating to know how bound we are to our most base of instincts.
- wynja, on 10/10/2007, -4/+47Does this surprise anyone? We are after all nothing more than talking chimps. Of course, we are queued by smells and visual signs that we don't pick up on consciously. Are we so egotistical that we believe we have somehow risen above hundreds of millions of years of evolution in our short jaunt out of the trees?
- FortyCaliber, on 10/10/2007, -1/+35Curious, my friend was a bartender too, and his tips went down after he stuffed his bra.
- Billiam627, on 10/10/2007, -2/+33"Dancers made about $70 an hour during their peak period of fertility, versus about $35 while menstruating and $50 in between"
I guess maybe I was a little naive in thinking that strippers didn't work when they were on their period, but now I'm a little afraid to go to the strip club... - lkmbrd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+28There's probably a stronger correlation to the number of teeth.
- jmpeagle, on 10/10/2007, -2/+29FTA
"Women on the pill averaged $37 (and had no performance peak) versus $53 for women off-pill. The contraceptive produces hormonal cues indicating early pregnancy, not an enticing target for a would-be suitor. Birth control could lead to many thousands of dollars lost every year."
-looks like a few more strippers are going to accidentally get pregnant once this info is becomes well known - sockpuppets, on 10/10/2007, -1/+27If your physician uses the word "boobies" he's either grossly incompetent or incredibly fun. Or both.
- hardwareguy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+24Grants? Who needs grants.
I've got singles. - Almadiel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+23Well, its easier to act sexy when your body is telling you to have sex. And of course men respond to women who are ovulating, we have had lots of time to develop that evolutionary strategy.
- DarkXanthos, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24Yes.
- sullyz0r, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24I'll take "Any retard could understand that" for $400, Alex.
Daily Double! - jmkiii, on 10/10/2007, -0/+23I laud your efforts doctors.
- treed, on 10/10/2007, -2/+22What, do you think they're going to squirt their menses all over you?
- Rikushix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18It's not common knowledge (as chmeee would have you think) but other studies have shown that women are more turned on when they are ovulating...which is kinda obvious, I suppose.
- capiCrimm, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19For some reason I can't get the idea of those Guinness commercial characters out of my head, now.
- asdfuiop, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17You mean "cued" by smells, you silly monkey
- sullyz0r, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16Well, after seeing Superbad...
- sockpuppets, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Not everyone is sitting outside a strip club fapping it, chmee. Maybe we can make you our ambassador.
- AntBing, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16You must live in Kentucky.
- ausfahrt, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Another little known fact is that you can tell their age by the number of rings around their corn holes.
- AntBing, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12I tip more if she has nice real ones.
- aukxsona, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11MOST clients are male....in case you didn't know.
- crapmatic, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12Dugg for the description. Er, be sure to bring back some pics!
- plhearn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10What better way to help out the scientific community
- mustang460, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9We are animals after all
- jmpeagle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9that wasn't what was interesting. It was the difference between peak period and non-PMSing times and the difference between those on the pill and those not
- Hobbes24, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10whomever figures out how to make an effective pheromone "perfume" of women who are fertile is going to make a killing, as strange as it sounds
- gdog05, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Dugg for evolution!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Seeing as every other stripper I ever saw was "saving money for college" (presumably for a B.A. Psychology) it's only a matter of time before they all read this , quit the pill and a big downswing in your local stripper stock starts because the extra money lets them get educated sooner...
- FortyCaliber, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8No, the stripper smelled nice, and I queued up in line to wait for a dance.
- ZenMojo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7So if you're on the pill it's like you're pregnant, which cues a negative response in potential suitors (already taken). If you're off the pill but at peak fertility, potential suitors think you're trying to get laid as opposed to merely teasing them with the goods. Fascinating.
- mustbepatient, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9The difference was also noticeable between peak and mid-cycle, apparently, so your point doesn't appear to be valid.
- asdfuiop, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Facts about Bonobos:
1) Bonobos are mammals.
2) Bonobos ***** ALL the time.
3) The purpose of the bonobo is to flip out engage in wild orgies - capiCrimm, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6if he tells me I have like a lump in my boobies, and I'm a man -- does it still count as fun?
- vertigoblue, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Government paid strippers go the distance...
- sjbdallas, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Maybe the chicks will dry-hump you more when they're ovulating.
- fprintf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5That was my first thought. When a woman is ovulating she feels more sexy, and therefore acts more sexy. I know my wife is definitely more horny and turned on right around the middle of the month. There is a magic few days when everything just seems to go right, and both times I got her pregnant was when the sex was the absolute best it has ever been. Relating this back to the article, I'd guess that if a stripper is feeling like she wants to screw someone (not necessarily you) she is going to do everything right to turn you on = more money. The rest of the time maybe it just seems so much like a job... I know when I enjoy what I am doing I give it my best effort.
- AustinMeoang, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Very hard, if you catch my drift.
- aukxsona, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5actually yes...but no points were granted by the community since better than 80 percent are male and wouldn't get it.
- ecidnac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4If by "in heat" you mean ovulating, then NO. PMS happens just prior to menstruation (when, if everything is operating properly, a woman will NOT become pregnant), which occurs more or less OPPOSITE ovulation.
- hobbers, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Dunno. It's a strip club, could just be a run of the mill suburbia strip club. After you pay security fees, etc, they might not walk away with a large % of their earnings. However, I do know that private strippers make a ***** load more money. Had a stripper for a bachelor party once ... she was there for 1 or 2 hours and walked away with $1k.
- hardwareguy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5pics or it didn't happen
- AustinMeoang, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Actually, Etc. is short for et cetera, which is two words.
- mrurc, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5When I am ovulating, I am convinced that I am the sexiest person on the planet and I act like I think that. That is normal and evolutionarily sound. When I am menstruating, I do not wear skimpy underwear and prance around showing off my crotch, just in case. This is also completely normal, and I do not suffer from PMS so it is not the fault of PMS. This is one of those studies that is so obvious that I think that the people who did their theses on the chemical in asparagus that makes your pee stink are doing more groundbreaking science.
Were there any females involved in the research or interpretation? Cause I think their response would have been "duh." - Hobbes24, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4that's not entirely true, some scientists think the small pit in the nasal septums of some people could functioni as working vomeronasal organs. There has also been several studies linking humans to pheromones, the MCClintock effect itself lends credible evidence that pheromones are responsible for women who live in the same house having mysterious simultaneous menstruation.
Also, a study by Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute, University of California, Berkeley suggest that a chem in males sweat may be responsible for altered levels of cortisol in women - RobotBuddha, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4To be fair, we're talking great apes. Chimps, humans and bonobos are all very similar, but different enough in their society to make the distinction between the three important. Now, I 'wish' we were nothing more than talking bonobos.
- Screwy1138, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I dunno, this seems pretty obvious - I would have thought it was obvious to anyone who's had a long term relationship.
