That would explain YouTube commenters. - NuclearMissile, on 09/07/2009, -3/+54spending time on digg makes you an Adolf Einstein.
/s - aechase, on 09/07/2009, -0/+40"Hey, I just made a discovery about a link between working memory training and intelligence tests. How can I get some media attention and grant money?"
"Can you randomly insert the words 'Facebook' and 'Twitter' in the discussion somewhere?" - dfross, on 09/07/2009, -2/+30Blaming Twitter for its users being stupid sounds a bit harsh. I'm pretty sure a lot of them were stupid before they even got there.
Correllation is not causation. Twitter just suits people stupid enough to get bored before they finish a whole sente ooh a bee - digghasnoethics, on 09/07/2009, -0/+26"a psychologist has claimed"
Nuff said - dafragsta, on 09/07/2009, -3/+26The 160 character limit is the key. You can't say much that has enough context to sound intelligent in 160 characters unless it's a very poignant one-liner. At least Facebook lets people who don't usually stretch their writing skills spend more time doing so. I am actually surprised but Facebook has definitely helped re-raise the bar for expected use of real English and considerably less childish spews than what could be expected on MySpace. I would go so far as to say that it's helped bring up the rear a little bit as well. I attribute that to the fact that users can't customize their Facebook page to look like a glitter ***** emothon extravaganza. Something about even browsing MySpace made me feel less intelligent.

Bad science, bad write up, bad everything. I prefer not to lose my time with the above kind of *****... - doomestic, on 09/07/2009, -1/+19This research brought to you by Facebook. And like everything else:
By Mennen - ksclee, on 09/07/2009, -1/+15Onion'ed.
Edit: Oh wait... - phpld, on 09/07/2009, -0/+12They both make me anti-social, and now all I want is for my friends to leave me alone!
- eqrunner, on 09/07/2009, -0/+11"Spending time on the Facebook networking site could enhance a key element of intelligence that is vital to success in life"
Then what have we been doing for the past 2000+ years to get by before Facebook? - navidb, on 09/07/2009, -7/+14twitter is stupid, really!
- dazparkour, on 09/07/2009, -1/+8Is that good or bad?
- theOster, on 09/07/2009, -0/+6that would make a great tweet. brb.
- damnitzammit, on 09/07/2009, -2/+8screw all of them
adultfriendfinder makes me a genius... - chopeh, on 09/07/2009, -1/+7Who said I was self-censoring? I said I was stupid as four asterisks.
- Jarasmen, on 09/07/2009, -0/+5Neither O_O
- duggmeister, on 09/07/2009, -0/+5Improves your working memory? I remember working more at work before they unblocked Facebook.
- fxu1989, on 09/07/2009, -0/+5>> and watching YouTube were all likely to weaken ''working memory''.
Correction: reading YouTube comments. There are good documentaries on youtube. The article is probably talking about videos of 13 year-olds doing that souljaboy *****. - tk0680, on 09/07/2009, -0/+4I'm not especially keen on Twitter, but at least it's not filled with "MY FARM JUST BRED <insert random animal here> COME AND SEE LOL".
- bluewaters2088, on 09/07/2009, -0/+4Frankly, playing war games may enhance memory, but what kind of memory? I think facebook is great and digg surely is and twitter okay, but how much do we sacrifice by spending time away from nature, family and friends in the flesh?
- theOster, on 09/07/2009, -0/+4...and make sure its pro facebook and anti twitter.
- 1hrSleep, on 09/07/2009, -0/+3It's a stupidity rating out of 5 stars.
**** out of *****. - Haz3rd, on 09/07/2009, -0/+3Then why are you posting here?
- skelooth, on 09/07/2009, -0/+3Dugg for "glitter ***** emothon extravaganza"

- Zepho, on 09/07/2009, -3/+6Wonder how much Facebook paid them to publish this
- nategri, on 09/07/2009, -0/+3***** psychology. The BEST a psychological experiment of this kind can hope to achieve is correlation which who gives a *****.
Psychologists need to to work on a theory of brain function or else switch fields. Everything else is almost exactly useless. - theOster, on 09/07/2009, -0/+3how is it different than facebook? no pictures to look at? have you read what people post on facebook? its the exact same stupid *****.
- shapedy, on 09/07/2009, -1/+3I actually find my communicating on facebook improves my writing a lot. Expressing complex social ideas (read: sensitive gossip) takes precision.
- ricker2005, on 09/07/2009, -1/+3Those whacky Germans and their different names for different people. What'll they think of next?
- ShingoEX, on 09/07/2009, -0/+2So is cross-posting the equivalent of dividing by zero?
- RoboDonut, on 09/07/2009, -0/+2Whenever I want to see one of these "studies", I want to see the details of their testing methods to see how they can claim such nonsense. I just cannot see the impact of visiting a website on your intelligence being anything but marginal (even if Twitter is a massive waste of time).
This is pseudo-science ***** that grossly misapplies statistics in order to craft a sensationalist title. It's a ploy to increase page views and ad revenue without putting in any actual effort. Diggers put this sort of crap on the front page regularly, and it just makes digg look like a joke. - ramanan50, on 09/07/2009, -1/+3Couple of points.
1.Formula and Methodology of. Measurement of IQ is debatable. It is based mental age calculated on certain parameters which are found to be common for an age group arrived at by numerous trials and errors and it is by no means final and it is changing constantly and is also relative and the tests of IQ vary, based on Ethnicity,Cultural background, values, environment and genes. Currently Psychologists adopt it for want of better systems.
2.What are the details of Conditioned group and open group? What parameters have been applied to select the Test?
3.By implication, faster the flow of information, less likely are you to use your IQ?Sounds naive. There are people, who , in fact remember only when information provided to them is fast.
By implication,if you follow certain tasks, IQ will improve.Where is the evidence? In fact what exactly is intelligence?
These sorts 'findings' do not really matter much, excepting perhaps to promote a product/service. - dazparkour, on 09/07/2009, -2/+4You haven't seen diggs coverage of Facebook gone wrong.
- insanebrain, on 09/07/2009, -1/+3they both make you stupid.
- Mican, on 09/07/2009, -0/+2working memory
- TragedyAndHope, on 09/07/2009, -1/+3I think they are both terrible for society, especially the youth of today. It's turning them into narcissistic little *****.
- gankige, on 09/07/2009, -1/+2I'm not so sure about this, as there seems to be a huge lack of intelligence on both sites.
- chopeh, on 09/07/2009, -3/+4I use both, so should remain the same as before they existed.
(Stupid as ****) - Kaiern, on 09/07/2009, -2/+3Self-censorship is lame.
- HobieCooper, on 09/07/2009, -0/+1Funny, I thought it was 140 chars....
- jbum, on 09/07/2009, -0/+1In other news, things I like are good, and things I don't like are stupid.
- mrdude4290, on 09/07/2009, -3/+4And 4chan diminishes it by over 9000
