That said, unless they had her skull and did a little DNA test to boot to guess on color, I count the accuracy of this projection as "zero" factual, and 100% politcal agenda de jour. - inactive, on 12/16/2008, -3/+38I'm gonna call ***** on this. They have nothing to verify against.
More Daily Mail *****. - lorem1000, on 12/15/2008, -2/+34Dugg for corn rows.
- inactive, on 12/15/2008, -0/+28She was the ruler, they kinda had to call her beautiful.
- outinreno, on 12/15/2008, -5/+32I'd hit it.
- inactive, on 12/16/2008, -7/+32she still looks hot. i already masturbated 5 times to this sketch.
- badqat, on 12/15/2008, -6/+29Wow...I guess they had much different standards of a hottie back then.
I mean, she's ok...but "strikingly beautiful"? - Coy0te, on 12/16/2008, -0/+16She was a Ptolemy of Greek-Macedonian decent, last time I checked northern Greeks didn't look like Africans with corn-rows. The Ptolemy's were extremely aristocratic and practiced incest to ensure a pure Macedonian bloodline, so this whole "She probably wasn't just completely European" Is pure crowd pleasing PC bull-plop.
- Skunkhair, on 12/16/2008, -3/+18Looks like they plucked the image out of a Shrek cartoon.
- CptBuck, on 12/16/2008, -0/+14Macedonian by way of Alexander the Great of Macedonia. Macedonia was 100% greek at the time. The Ptolemy's and Cleopatra's (the name for every male and female greek pharaoh/queen) would all have been the decendants of Ptolemy I Soter, one of Alexander's generals. Slavic tribes wouldn't arrive in Macedonia for another 800 years after the time of Alexander.
- rolf, on 12/16/2008, -0/+12Reading the article, it's not even close to "first true image" as much as it is just a half-assed guess. They don't even have a skeleton to work from for DNA or facial reconstruction using forensics. A shot in the dark.
- TheAeneid, on 12/16/2008, -2/+12I doubt it. Cleopatra was a Ptolemy. Just because they lived in Egypt for 300 years doesn't mean they interbred with the natives. In fact, quite the opposite occurred. This "year of intense research" should have included more cultural and social factors as well as looking at any actual bones of royal relatives that have survived from the period. They're always trying to put corn rows on Egyptians. They wore wigs and burnt incensed wax on their heads. About as credible as the gossip column news on the right of the article.
- inactive, on 12/16/2008, -0/+10For a man who can have any women in his kingdom that stretches from England to Africa, I'm positive his judgment is beyond just looks. She's got to be extremely intelligent and well spoken to have capture the heart of Ceasar.
- NJank, on 12/16/2008, -0/+10they weren't looking at her face.
- borez, on 12/16/2008, -0/+9The Daily mail is taking over Digg, I swear it.

would you like to know more? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ptolemaic_dynasty - ChasInVictoria, on 12/16/2008, -0/+6Hello, look up "Reubenesque" sometime. The standards of "beauty" change over the centuries.
In her own time, Cleo was probably just what we would call very "striking-looking" today. Stood apart from the pack.
Or maybe she just knew how to "work it." :) - Cravitar, on 12/16/2008, -1/+7Well she was from a European (Hellenistic) family. So its a strong possibility. Especially due to the large number of Europeans in North Africa at the time eg Carthage
- farfromsubtl, on 12/16/2008, -0/+6Exactly what I was about to say... Looks like great beauty looked like bad CG back then. Each to his own I guess.
- Rudegar, on 12/16/2008, -0/+6"She's not ugly but I don't see any potential powers of seduction here."
it's not always something physical a wink of an eye, smile or stuff like that cant really
be cgi'd yet - halfgook, on 12/16/2008, -0/+5Scientists recreate the FIRST TRUE image?
I want a SECOND TRUE image. - fcmk, on 12/16/2008, -1/+6Or she just let him do her in the pooper.
- mikeophile, on 12/16/2008, -0/+5The casting of Lyndsey Marshal in HBO's Rome wasn't too far off.
http://especiales.plus.es/media/PAGINADIGITALPLUS/ ... - MrMysterious, on 12/16/2008, -2/+6I didn't know that Cleopatra had corn rows.
- kasperu, on 12/16/2008, -1/+5Idiots, ALEXANDER THE GREAT were greek, so were his mens. Mecedonia is in Greece, but the country north of greece, now know as Macedonia stole the name from greece, that is why it's not just Macedonia, but the Republic of Macedonia, because greece have foced them too, because they stole the Macedonia name from Greece and greece got the copyright so to say, Macedonia is in north greece, Republic of Macedonia is the country north of greece.
Yes, maybe the Macedonians lived in same areas that is country macedonia back then, but they are still greeks. Look it upm, country Macedonia stole the name from the greeks, and they don't like that.

Republic of Macedonia - ChasInVictoria, on 12/16/2008, -1/+5Has it occurred to you that the standards of what constitutes "beauty" may have changed over the centuries? Sheesh.
- 1ncu3us, on 12/16/2008, -1/+5I call bullcrap! .. What if scientists tried to recreate the face of Han Solo or Indiana Jones, from all the action figures in existence... It would not look like Harrison Ford at all... We have to rely on the hope that these ancient artists got it right, and that the ones that got it wrong, didn't get it way wrong...
- benitojuarez, on 12/16/2008, -0/+4back then any woman that could bathe daily would be super ***** hot to me too....
- freshyill, on 12/16/2008, -1/+5So she looked like a crappy mid-'90s computer rendering?
- VitriolAndAngst, on 12/16/2008, -1/+5I think the scientists working on this, would be researching all the texts and sources of description they could find. Yes, DNA and a skeleton would be 100% better.
But a scientist isn't going to risk their reputation on peer review with something they cannot support. It may be found to be wrong one day, but I can guarantee you they did their homework.
It really is poisonous this constant doubting of scientific integrity. People don't train so hard for such a low paying job, just so they can make crap up. That's some conspiracy theory that corporations seem to be pushing. Assuming bad science is really a stretch. How about some examples first, before we take your word on this? - inactive, on 12/16/2008, -0/+4Man, Han Solo ain't never had no sex with Cleopatra in the star war
- orion846, on 12/16/2008, -0/+4looks like no child left behind is making real strides
- kasperu, on 12/16/2008, -1/+4if you look at it that way. Then Macedonia is a region in Balkan, and have nothing to do with people, previous kingdoms or anything else. It was not called Macedonia on Phillips or Alexanders time(correct me if I'm wrong) and they were not connected to the later to be Republic of Macedonia, it's a region, with many dieffrent people in it, and yes, it is wrong for greece not to acknowledge Republic of Macedonia as a country, but it is in some way understandable, because some of region Macedonia is in greece. Greek Macedonia was an Kingdom, Empire, Region Macedonia(named later) is greek Macedonia + Republic of Macedonia, but Alexander and all his merry men were greek Macedonians, and Republic of Macedonia is not Greek macedonia. Phillips Macedonia didn't even border the now Republic of Macedonia and Phillips Macedonia was very small and wasn't even close to fill all of Region Macedonia.
On Alexanders time Region Macedonia wasn't named yet, and they had nothing in common with the area that is now Republic of Macedonia. - bjs3171, on 12/16/2008, -0/+3you do understand this isn't a photo...?
- CptBuck, on 12/16/2008, -0/+3Yes, she would have been Greek. http://www.geocities.com/christopherjbennett/ptole ...
Her entire family tree descends from generals of Alexander the Great. - danlowlite, on 12/16/2008, -0/+3No! It has always been awesome to be able to play rib xylophone with your women! Err, wait...
@ChasInVictoria, we should not be surprised what posts about beauty occur on Digg.
Not that the image isn't stupid. I mean, there are a thousand technical reasons why this is simply a guess, and part of it does have to do with what culture even the artists that made the picture grew up in. I mean, I guess you could throw symmetry and a good complexion as a standard, but even those aren't 100% no matter what you're looking at (moles, freckles, interesting scars, etc.). Well, maybe good complexion is.
Of course, that's all simple looks, not anything about personality and movement and dress... - inactive, on 12/16/2008, -0/+3Back then, she wouldn't have been.
- inactive, on 12/16/2008, -1/+4Go to northern Greece (what is called "Greek" Macedonia) and ask the Macedonians if they're Greek. Here's a map of Macedonia. None of it is Greek, nor does it think it's Greek, nor does it want to be. It's occupied. The country named Macedonia is Macedonia too, but it's not occupied by Greece. Here is a map of what is Macedonian.

- Uiaccsk, on 12/16/2008, -0/+3most frustratingly nonsensical comment of the day
- inactive, on 12/16/2008, -0/+3The Ptolemy's were Macedonians, not Greeks.
- donkz, on 12/16/2008, -0/+3what, no? Technologically impossible?

My complex, histobioanapaleontomatically correct 3d rendering is better than theirs! TENURE PLX. - ABEL3616, on 12/16/2008, -0/+2Men/Women these days end up calling every blond with bug-eye glasses 'STUPED HAWT', when in reality, they have many unlikeable features. We're very persuaded by fashion and hair styles (yes, men can be very shallow, whether they realize it or not), and Cleo, having so much power had plenty of style to be sure.
Additionally, she was a woman with power, and that is admirable/sexy/attractive to most. She probably carried herself with a lot of confidence as well. I don't think I need to explain to anyone that confidence is a key factor in 'sexy' (for many).
Note: I don't know if any of this is true for Cleo, I never really read up on the lady...I am simply applying observations from today's society and applying it to the old. - solid12345, on 12/16/2008, -0/+2What it is is Afro-revisionist history, why do people insist on tryin to distort history to make their own race feel better, the truth is the Egyptians were a hybrid race of black Africans and mediterranean europeans.
- tgc1, on 12/16/2008, -2/+4She looks fine. I don't know what you guys are complaining about. Specially seeing since most of you on here never get laid. I wouldn't be quite so picky, judging by the history surrounding her it seems like she was quite wild in the sack.
- bigtoes, on 12/16/2008, -0/+2Funny , that is exactly how Cleopatra looked on that HBO show Rome .
