- Tallon, on 01/07/2009, -0/+1Wow, a second longer. That's really going to bring about some great changes. =P
- SybotCB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Uh, this was posted when it was decided that the second would be added in early July. Check the date of the article.
Also, seconds are fairly routinely added to a year, and it's never called that much of a problem as far as computers go before. - cys006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is gonna effect nothing realy, its even miniscule compared to ST/DST switching.
Yah. If the US changes daylight savings time, how will it effect the rest of North America like Canada. I think the US just wants time zones all to them selves. - snowthrower, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is at really that important that we need 1 more second of 2005?
- jmccorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My, the Earth is full of many things!
- Computer_Kid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That is why it seems like time is speeding up! Theory of relativity.
- SybotCB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0DST won't have that big an effect either. Most devices and your OS has a capability of disabling DST changes automatically anyway for those living in Indiana, Arizona, and Hawaii. So you have to manually change your VCR clock instead of it doing so itself. Big deal.
- lightdarknes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nothing will be affected cause it's only one second, a time resync can fix that.
What will be a problem, is the US changing how long day light savings time goes on... - kwilliam71, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service - You've GOT to be kidding me!
- gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It wont mess up xp computer because of the time update thing

- dombi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hope that we are adding this extra second to a weekend and not to a work day.

- MrZaiko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I actually heard about it in discovery channel, its sad this was the only good source I found on the web lol
- jaredworm, on 10/31/2008, -0/+0"I hope that we are adding this extra second to a weekend and not to a work day."
We can only hope. - aplardi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This will cause all linux systems to die forever in the year 2043
Mark my words. - ksgant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0GREAT! Gonna take this extra time to sleep in! WOO HOO!
- nicepants, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm confused...how do they KNOW that the time is off? "Well our atomic clock can't be wrong...the earth must be rotating at a different speed" Does this seem a little weird to anyone else?
- porplem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah I even blogged the old article. Dupe.
- Etunus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Who's worried about computers' time being off??? I'm worried about spinning off into space when the earth grinds to a halt!
- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0STOP MESSING WITH MY TIVO!!!
- mentat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Didn't the US Gov strike down the leap-second in favor of a larger modification later?
- MrZaiko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah, now they just gonna do a leap hour in 400 years.... because they wanna control time too
- Gavin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0THis happens like every 2 years or so.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Speaking of time, did you know that Daylight Savings has nothing to do with the seasons changing or anything? Digg for a little info online and you will find some conspiracy-like answers as to why we must spring forward and fall back :)
- andrewcool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 The day is longer today than it was in 1905
Hmm no wonder..! so by next year the day is going to be way longer.. So school and work will seem longer... - jwalk81980, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I read somewhere that an extra leap day would be added to the year 4000. Wonder if this added second every year will eliminate that.
- RaysinX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0so in time square will they count down 3...2..1..0...0?
- tresser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+02600's weekly radio program 'Off The Hook,' had a recording from the us naval national observatory phone number the last time they added a second. im happy that i'll be able to listen to a second of silence this year.
- TokenUser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can I save my extra second for when I need it ... sort of like a personal "bullet time"?
