- malexan, on 07/28/2008, -10/+291What about liquid nitrogen in a pool of Coke with Mentos thrown in for added fun!
- Lucas123, on 07/28/2008, -12/+247Science is cool.
But it would have kinda sucked if he'd spilled that stuff on himself before getting it to the pool -- Terminator 2 flashbacks. - mnemy, on 07/28/2008, -13/+220Was I the only one cringing when that guy was walking around with a bowl of liquid nitrogen? If any of that spilled on him, I imagine it would be pretty unhealthy.

/raises hand.
I do. - arunforce, on 07/29/2008, -6/+96...She took off her top?
Ugh. - Sornos, on 07/29/2008, -3/+89So long as you don't immerse any part of your body for a long time you should be OK. I've seen a guy dip his fingers in. For a short time, it'll just boil around your fingers.
- ZER0JACK, on 07/29/2008, -3/+79FOOL, You'll kill us all!
- snareguy17, on 07/29/2008, -2/+75That was a girl who jumped in? Woops.
- cyberfreak01, on 07/29/2008, -3/+65As you should know, gas is not a great conductor of heat, so when it boils at -320.42 °F it will actually create a little bit of a barrier around your finger from the liquid nitrogen. Still like mnemy said, can only do it for short periods of time. So yes, that's all

- jacobu9, on 07/29/2008, -2/+59Sorry to destroy your GoldenEye/Terminator 2 fantasies, but pouring liquid nitrogen on your skin won't do anything, it will just boil away. The only way it will cause you to blister is if you continuously hold it against your skin, like if it gets stuck in your shoes or you cup it in your hand or something, otherwise it's like passing your hand through a candle flame, it doesn't do anything.
- Carbamide, on 07/29/2008, -8/+63Oh no! Don't go! Don't... go... please.... stop.....
/sarcasm - pault107, on 07/29/2008, -1/+50Fat girl jumps in - 'hey everyone, look at me, I'm just sooo crazy'
- Regulator980, on 07/29/2008, -1/+48For future reference if you decide to use liquid nitrogen:
"You should *never* wear safety gloves when working with liquid nitrogen. Likewise, you should not wear any clothing (such as sleeves) which may get soaked in liquid nitrogen and then hold it against your skin.
Liquid nitrogen is fairly harmless if it touches you or gets on your skin... the real harm is if your skin is submerged in it or covered in it for extended periods of time. So if you have no gloves and use the right handling utensils, then at most, you risk some splashes to the skin.
If you have gloves on, however, you risk liquid nitrogen getting down into the glove and then freezing your fingers off.
Just an asterisk... I'm not trained in this field or anything, however, I saw it on a Bill Nye episode where he was very firm with not wearing gloves while handling liquid nitrogen. =)"

- tomj88, on 07/29/2008, -0/+23yeah, if I remember correctly the temperature difference between your body and the liquid nitrogen is so great that it vaporises before it touches your hand or something to that effect so it doesn't blister your skin, but if you immerse say your hand in the stuff it doesn't get as much of a chance to vaporise so will cause damage to you.

- monocyteLSU, on 07/29/2008, -0/+21I work in a research lab. Every week or two, I go and get about 5 Liters of liquid nitrogen and deliver it to my lab to be poured in a larger container. I wear Sub-zero gloves that go up to almost to my elbows as well as Safety Glasses. While gloves may not be needed during the transport of the liquid nitrogen, I can't see myself not using them while getting the Liq. Nitrogen or dispensing the liq. nitrogen. The metal hose used to get the Liquid nitrogen freezes over, so the gloves are most definitely needed there unless you want your hand frozen to the hose for a period of time. While dispensing the liquid nitrogen, I can understand that they might be a risk of pouring the liquid nitrogen into the glove, but the probability of that happening with the proper gloves and handling is slim. It serves mostly as a splash guard (even if the liquid nitrogen might be fairly harmless). Of course, this might just be what my lab does and we usually are very cautious when it comes to safety.

- burrgrinder, on 07/29/2008, -0/+19College physics class had us pour liquid nitrogen drops into our hands and stick our fingers into a bowl of it. Every person in the class did it, zero people were hurt. The extreme temperature difference keeps you safe, it never actually touches your skin. Really, the easiest way to hurt yourself with liquid nitrogen is to ingest it.
- SACubeMonkey, on 07/29/2008, -1/+20I would use the term "chick" very loosely in the context of this video my friend.
