- trickyt, on 01/18/2008, -2/+152I want to go to the Island!
- brentinkc, on 01/18/2008, -14/+158Can anyone tell me why we shouldn't be doing this other than you "think it's wrong"?
- inactive, on 01/18/2008, -0/+115I'd like to see him clone that mustache...
- brentinkc, on 01/18/2008, -8/+118Not creating little cells to help cure diseases seems unethical to me...
- KennMac, on 01/18/2008, -2/+81So he missed a letter... and he even followed up to acknowledge it. Stop being an *****. For all you know it got cut off.
In a previous comment, you referred to a shot of Jägermeister as a shot of "Yeager". If you ask me, that's a whole lot dumber. - Error601, on 01/18/2008, -4/+79A new way for dateless geeks to reproduce?
- truspector, on 01/18/2008, -8/+77So trashing unused embryos from fertility clinics is okay, but using them for scientific research is not?
- inactive, on 01/18/2008, -6/+70Please excuse that missing letter in "himself" in the title; so the ethics question would be: Would any of you want to have his own personal "mini-me" ? The personal use of harvesting of body parts seems too much to ponder.
- pilot3033, on 01/18/2008, -5/+67morality is subjective, therefore: yes
- Lyk4n, on 01/18/2008, -11/+68Cloning research is necessary for the advancement of mankind. Religions cannot stop the march of science forever.
- KCLorelei39, on 01/18/2008, -10/+64IF only the spare parts themselves could be cloned, without creating a fully functional human that is then killed...well, I'd have to sit down and think it over more deeply. IF a fully functional, self-aware human being is created as a clone for the express purpose of harvesting parts for another, then under no circumstances should we venture there. ultimately, who OWNS that person that results from cloning - the sentient being that is created? or the human from whom the DNA orignally came? it's somewhat like the abortion issue - it's MY body, my choice - when in reality a fetus has entirely different DNA that either mother or father. in the case of cloning, the DNA is identical to another "original" human. it's risky trying to sort out the ethics of something like human cloning just in case body parts are needed. It's very Frankenstein-ish, isn't it? that would be the ultimate slaverly, wouldn't it? to be created expressly to be used for spare parts, and then destroyed when no further use is needed. this puts humans on a level with a bunch of sheep who aren't aware of their ultimate end. aren't we more than animals?
- skyshock1, on 01/18/2008, -0/+53Hi. I'm NBC's Chris Hansen. Why don't you have a seat over there.
- a10webb, on 01/18/2008, -1/+53Is his clone as blurry and out of focus as he is?
- inactive, on 01/18/2008, -3/+53no, no, no... Michael Keaton cloned himself at least 10 years ago.
- Ciffirakkun, on 01/18/2008, -2/+51It's not really a dilemma for me. Yes, it's a clone, but it's not another version of you. It has your DNA, but that's it. A person's "self," if you will, comes from experience. This new life would just as much be an individual as you or I. What would happen if during this new person's life, they needed something to keep living? Would you donate to them, being that they are younger and have a longer life ahead of them? The idea of "harvesting" organs to me just seems absurd.
- skyshock1, on 01/18/2008, -0/+49Have little pain in the ass kids without the fun of making them?! Are you mad???
- CraigJ, on 01/18/2008, -0/+47I would like to clone myself and put my 40 year old brain into my 16 year old body... High school would be so much better the second time around...
- wukillabee, on 01/18/2008, -2/+42quit spreading fud idiot:
Dolly did not die because of being a clone: an autopsy confirmed she had Ovine Pulmonary Adenocarcinoma (Jaagsiekte), a fairly common disease of sheep caused by the retrovirus JSRV. - Zorkon, on 01/18/2008, -2/+40One definition of miracle is:
"an effect or extraordinary event in the physical world that surpasses all known human or natural powers and is ascribed to a supernatural cause."
I'd like to point out that if we understand the process and can replicate it, then by strict definition it is no longer a "miracle". Get over it, critics. - loopis, on 01/18/2008, -10/+48No dude with a Mustache should be allowed to be cloned.
- insllvn, on 01/18/2008, -2/+37When his 5 minutes are up his poor spelling will be forgotten, while you will be a bitter douche forever.
- TheChunt, on 01/18/2008, -0/+34I don't really need a mini-me. However, if someone offered me a Kristen Bell I'd probably take it.
- Singularitarian, on 01/18/2008, -0/+33Underneath the cat's hat, there's another cat wearing another hat.
- theradical, on 01/18/2008, -0/+31Can humans clone sheep with the expressed purpose of those sheep then cloning humans?
- HonestAbe, on 01/18/2008, -0/+32Depends on whether the clone is born with a head or not.
- unicronband, on 01/18/2008, -2/+33Did you really just reference "Multiplicity"?
- BigLLamasHouse, on 01/18/2008, -2/+31"an embryo which - if left alone - will become a human just like you or me." hmmm, so if i get an embryo and stick it under my bed it will become a human? leaving it alone is the trick... never woulda guessed it
- allatti2d, on 01/18/2008, -1/+30You know, I'm a Christian and I don't think it's immoral. Creating things is God-given (in my opinion), using our brains is the best way to honor any creator.
Immorality arises from actions and intentions that go against the betterment of humanity.
Or do you think it's immoral because people are "trying to play god"? I think that's a ridiculous idea. The idea of morality is not only limited to Christians, you know; if it was, then only Christians could be immoral and not anyone else. - HonestAbe, on 01/18/2008, -2/+31So you're a vegetarian?
- an0nym0uz, on 01/18/2008, -2/+31You would think that a first such as this would be more important to the people of the world...
- GorillaCowboy, on 01/18/2008, -1/+29dude Babyslapper, you just got rocked.
- skyshock1, on 01/18/2008, -5/+33I think we need to start by breaking the popular misconception that reproduction is somehow a "miracle". What's TRULY a miracle is how science has found alternate methods of reproduction beyond the traditional.
- NoCt1, on 01/18/2008, -0/+28but then what if your clone wants a clone to do the same that you want?
- Sabarok, on 01/18/2008, -1/+28The idea is, getting the stemcells, and then using those stemcells to grow the organs, and not to grow an entire person to take the organs out of their body. As for the ethics, we do worse and still call it ethical
- zengonzo, on 01/18/2008, -3/+29Like you said .. Fertilized eggs. They didn't create five to ten babies. They created fertilized eggs. You have to carry a baby, it doesn't become one the instant the sperm tags the egg wall.
- Moshcrates, on 01/18/2008, -3/+28"But critics fear the technology could be exploited by mavericks to clone babies and accused the scientists of reducing the miracle of human life to a factory of spare parts."
When the hell are we going to get over ourselves. "The miracle of life"...its called Science god damn it. Read a book.
Oh lets not disturb the wonderful process of birth...those 15 million people who suffers from incurable diseases every single day aren't worth it.....
Aye - Rahodeb, on 01/18/2008, -1/+25Just keep going deeper down the stupid hole. The point of pointing out your misspelling was to show how you were being a hypocrite.
- garyc83, on 01/18/2008, -1/+25When my parents used to get mad at me they told me that I was just a backup plan in case my older brother's kidneys failed.
- twiztidsinz, on 01/18/2008, -2/+24So its perfectly OK to clone animals, but not people?
- zengonzo, on 01/18/2008, -0/+22Kristen Bells for everyone!
- HonestAbe, on 01/18/2008, -0/+21Actually, I'm pretty sure that an embryo left alone would dry up and die.
- Brainclone, on 01/18/2008, -2/+23That 'Stache is awesome! Not as good as Mario's... but I digress...
He just wants to treat the little kid better than anyone treated him... then live vicariously through him... that's all.
Leave The nerd alone! - SlimFastForYou, on 01/18/2008, -0/+21HELLS YEAH!! The joke's on all the naysayers in this town, I get to reproduce after all!
- booshack, on 01/18/2008, -0/+20Troika you have been brainwashed by your pastor, cloning is a) for feeding the poor and b) for growing organs to further medical science. It's not because scientists have some sick desire to play evolution.
- mortigon, on 01/18/2008, -4/+24Is masturbation unethical?
- RyeBrye, on 01/18/2008, -3/+22You can't clone your own species. So: Humans can clone sheep. Sheep can clone Humans. Humans cannot clone Humans, and Sheep cannot clone Sheep.
- Nougat, on 01/18/2008, -4/+23I guarantee that this did not actually happen. We would hear about this first in a scientific journal if it was legit, not on Dailymail.
- ZachSka87, on 01/18/2008, -1/+19This sounds like a movie. It's make an awesome plot. Ewan McGregor could star in it. It'd be awesome.
- inactive, on 01/18/2008, -0/+18I want my own personal Scarlett.
- allatti2d, on 01/18/2008, -0/+17Did you know that human organs can (theoretically) be created without the need for creating a human being for the purpose of cutting out that organ?
