You live near Homer? Yeah, I'm at college too (I live in Anchorage), I heard from some one who lives on the bluff that the weather hasn't been good enough to see it.

I think that red is just painted on the picture to mark where the peak is. - Linuxrocks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's pretty cool.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very cool, I see lava! Er unless that's an image artifact, doesn't quite look right whatever it is.
- Meowmix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sweet. I was the picture was bigger, I'd use it as a desktop.

Yeah, I lived in Homer until this year. I remember the last time Redoubt blew too, that time the ash actually covered Homer, though I was pretty young. The weather has been horrible the whole time it's been erupting, for about 3 weeks or so now? Too bad, I have a friend who really wants to take pictures and just can't. Every now and then though the webcam on the island itself has some cool pics.
And as to the lava, it is just to pinpoint the peak. The volcano's in that region don't spew lava, only ash. I'm not sure exactly why, but it has something to do with the way they are formed, but they are a different type of volcano than what one thinks of when one hears volcano. In many way's it's more dangerous though, because they tend to be unstable and cause mudslides, which then cause tsunamis. They also tend to explode (ie Mount St. Helen's). - punkdigerati, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I lived in homer up until about '99 and I remember seeing the volcanoes across Kachemak bay on really clear days. Good times, those were.
- konstratos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool. Gotta love those natural events (so long as you're not in the firing line). Anyway, that's my new wallpaper. Thanks.
