- haveacigar, on 01/18/2008, -2/+169I look forward to utilizing this new technology in the most perverted way possible...
- sriel, on 01/18/2008, -5/+94Awesome! One step closer towards transhumanism.
- BigManOnCampus, on 01/18/2008, -1/+75I want night vision first.
- Napoleone, on 01/18/2008, -4/+58This is cool as hell. If they can find a way to simulate tactual sensation in the brain, video games and porn about to get very interesting.
On a Debbie Downer note, driving is about to get much worse. - czernel, on 01/18/2008, -4/+57Resistance is futile.
- Napoleone, on 01/18/2008, -1/+49Oh, I can see that. But that assumes people won't be playing Tetris on their eye balls instead.
- KMye, on 01/18/2008, -2/+50Put one of these in each eye in a room to with receivers they can triangulate from, and you don't need any kind of bulky projectors to have 3d images created in real space.
- FoxFaction, on 01/18/2008, -4/+45Texture overlay: Naked woman.jpg
Target model: Everything even remotely shaped like a woman
Ah, the future. - SmackMyMac, on 01/18/2008, -1/+37LaForge didn't even have these until like the last couple of movies. And that was the Future!
- archer104, on 01/18/2008, -1/+32there will be cake
- sexyflanders, on 01/18/2008, -3/+34HOLY COW!
I am legally blind I can see with my glasses 20/200 in my left eye 20 / 80 I have no per phial vision I have to look at pc monitors, books etc close. I even have a hard time playing sports games on a big screen (Small text) something like this could make it so I could drive and live my life more normally.
I would LOVE beta test the lenses I've dreamed of being able to see like everyone else my life would be so impacted by something like those lenses!
Plus having a computer built in even betters it I work in IT lol I could see it now. fixing a server from the toilet :P
Seriously though if anyone can find anything more about these and if they are doing any testing I really think something like this could vastly improve my day to day life. - synaesthesia, on 01/18/2008, -1/+31They better put some damn good ad-blocker in them. You just know the moment an internet browser is accessible through these, we're gonna be having v1agr.a pop-ups obstructing our vision as we drive and Meet Hot Girls in *your area* Tonight! while you talk to your wife.
- jerk1off, on 01/18/2008, -1/+27Now I can play the game: "Real Life."
- BigManOnCampus, on 01/18/2008, -2/+27How would driving get worse? With these on, I can have performance information, map info, or even highlight obstacles into my field of view.
- inactive, on 01/18/2008, -1/+24Where do I sign?
- Azerael, on 01/18/2008, -3/+25For those who can afford it, at least.
- 4degrees, on 01/18/2008, -2/+22carrots help.
- merper, on 01/18/2008, -0/+19Driving is about to get automated so no worries.
- megabytehl, on 01/18/2008, -1/+16"A Dell Kontax XPS contact lens gaming system's batteries have been deemed defective after several explosions and subsequent deaths of almost a dozen customers. Dell has since recalled the defective units and issued a new marketing campaign, 'Kontax XPS, they'll blow your mind'"
- inactive, on 01/18/2008, -1/+16A flashlight not good enough for you?
/Just kidding. I want night vision too. - ryan83189, on 01/18/2008, -0/+13Half-life X 2 = life
- Millsee, on 01/18/2008, -1/+14"I need you boots, your clothes and your motorcycle"
- inactive, on 01/18/2008, -0/+13They are used to it by now.
- oxdeltaxo, on 01/18/2008, -0/+11Thank you come again!
- sirjimbob, on 01/18/2008, -1/+12Bring on the future Mister Vernor Vinge. The next 20 years are going to be a wild ride. :)
- geodescent, on 01/18/2008, -0/+11That's amazing! 50 pixels is the same resolution it takes to run Crysis smoothly!
- MacEnvy, on 01/18/2008, -0/+10Polarized sunglasses actually block out part of what you can normally see, eliminating glare and increasing contrast in the process. But yeah, being able to adjust to any wavelength at will would be awesome.
- pyro789x, on 01/18/2008, -2/+12Wait until they somehow add the ability to record video and sound...
- wazzamattawichu, on 01/18/2008, -3/+12Can we use this to put everyone in DK mode like on James Bond?
- oxdeltaxo, on 01/18/2008, -0/+9 This pretty cool, definitely has many application, I bet the military would drool over these for troops.
I still want nanobots. - LetTheEgoSoar, on 01/18/2008, -0/+9How about viewing the world in black and white? That would be pretty cool ... then we could see the way our grandparents did :)
- Flashman, on 01/18/2008, -0/+9I'll wear them as long as the volatile chemicals involved (mercury, I'm looking at you...) don't seep through the contacts and into my eyeballs.
- scabbers, on 01/18/2008, -0/+8This is a great idea until you get permanent ones put in, then someone finds a way to put spam ads in there.
- CapeKid, on 01/18/2008, -0/+8Well, like any technology it will be improved fairly rapidly. It is cool to see first steps being taken.
- DickyT83, on 01/18/2008, -0/+8The latter may not be so bad..
- Pilot85, on 01/18/2008, -1/+9Information overload. Focus on the hud instead of the road, and bam! accident.
- inactive, on 01/18/2008, -1/+9then watch your damn mouth
- archer104, on 01/18/2008, -3/+11that's what she said :(
- cosmicr, on 01/18/2008, -9/+17I for one welcome our evil cyborg bunnie overlords...
- lordmetroid, on 01/18/2008, -1/+9Give me some heat, x-ray, whatever connected to this device and let me see wavelenghts normally not experienced please!
- ophello, on 01/18/2008, -0/+8...wouldnt the image be completely out of focus? Anyone got an explanation?
- stev3, on 01/18/2008, -2/+9I think we all know that's *****!
- fixty, on 01/18/2008, -0/+7Unfortunately I don't think these will be able to do much to restore peripheral vision. Lenses such as these would simply replace, to varying degrees, light entering the eye, with light generated by the in-lense display. They would not change the wearer's retinas' capacity to resolve the light.
The technology that may eventually be of help to you involves augmenting the rods and cones at the back of the eye which accomplish light resolution with implanted arrays of artificial light sensing material that is somehow interfaced with the nervous system. This is being actively researched and more info, including a video, can be found here: http://artificialretina.energy.gov/ - timbo458, on 01/18/2008, -0/+7The future is...NOW, no...NOW,damn it!
- emeraldmist, on 01/18/2008, -1/+8Personal HUDs. About time.
- Firehed, on 01/18/2008, -0/+7I'd suggest not doing that at work. Not that your boss would see you looking at porn, but people may take notice when you randomly start whipping it out and spanking it.
- OdinEye, on 01/18/2008, -0/+6What a wonderful step towards addressing the plague that is rabbit nearsightedness...
- RobotBuddha, on 01/18/2008, -0/+6Kinda sucks, doesn't it. But, on the other hand, I'm so looking forward to having one of the most awesome retirements ever. By the time most of us are in our 70s, there's going to be so much entertainment available even for those of us who've lost most of our mobility.
- inactive, on 01/18/2008, -0/+6Sounds like Rainbows End:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainbows_End
http://vrinimi.org/rainbowsend.html - online copy
Now we just need the processors embedded in clothing, and billions of tiny routers deployed over the face of the earth.
Unfortunately I really don't like the idea of poking something into my eye, I think I would prefer it in wearable glasses. - YoctoYotta, on 01/18/2008, -0/+6Just an tip for the frugal, I saw it at Walmart for $49.971.64
