- mhearne, on 10/15/2009, -0/+1Stick a copper plate in one end, and a zinc plate in the other. Now take a VOM and measure the voltage and current. I'm sure that you could power an LED and produce enough light to read with.
P.S. It might take a half an hour or so before the reaction begins to occur, depending on the acidity of the pickle, its size, and so on. Get one of those good ones that come in a plastic bag. Please don't try to eat it when your are through.
US cents made before 1980 are bronze, and those made afterwards are zinc with copper plating. Find an old cent for one electrode and a modern one for the other. Scrape the modern one down to the zinc and it should work. Might keep the kids entertained for a while! - mhearne, on 10/15/2009, -0/+1That might burn.
