- d2002, on 11/19/2008, -3/+85Is getting laid a side effect?
- madduffy, on 11/19/2008, -1/+54Everything has side effects.

- sooperskip, on 11/19/2008, -4/+37On Sunday, my Gram-Gram put up 12 reps of 285lbs on the bench. She said it was because of her metamucil.... lying bitch!
- jigulous, on 11/19/2008, -1/+33I'd love to see a pic of the mice/rats/etc they tested this drug on.
- mogdor, on 11/19/2008, -0/+27I've fallen and I CAN get up
- ZacT, on 11/19/2008, -3/+28Meat heads don't care about side effects. 10 bucks says that your local gym monkey will suddenly have 20% more muscle mass.
- Wetzilla, on 11/19/2008, -2/+25"Researchers at the University of Virginia Health System report that a daily single oral dose of an investigational drug, MK-677, increased muscle mass in the arms and legs of healthy older adults without serious SHORT TERM side effects, suggesting that it may prove safe and effective in reducing age-related frailty. "
It appears they forgot a word. The study hasn't been going on long enough to find any long term side effects, though if it is aimed at senior citizens they may not care too much about long term side effects. - ElGubrush, on 11/19/2008, -1/+21"Doc, but what about the long term unknown.."
"I SAID NO SIDE EFFECTS!"
"But we don't know if in 50 years these people will..."
"NO SIDE EFFECTS!" - RealmDown, on 11/19/2008, -2/+20This would be marvelous if it could assist in reducing muscle atrophy in astronauts.
- serif69, on 11/19/2008, -3/+19I, for one, welcome our new superhuman geriatric overlords.
- d3dm, on 11/19/2008, -0/+15Yikes. That old man on the corner that raises his fist and yells at me when I cut across his lawn might actually be able to do something about it one of these days.
- JimMayJr, on 08/06/2009, -2/+15yeah, and asbestos was the wonder insulation of its time...
- dilbert, on 11/19/2008, -0/+10No, the human wang is mostly sponge-like tissue (Corpus spongiosum) that is filled with blood when you have a boner. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corpus_spongiosum
- Acglaphotis, on 11/19/2008, -1/+10I hope they make a pill that helps people spell right.
- greenvortex, on 11/19/2008, -1/+10As a wimpy underdeveloped teenager I would have killed for this stuff, even if I knew there were risks. Long term effects sure don't deter smokers.
- ikepigott, on 11/19/2008, -1/+9Even placebos.
- sum33t, on 11/19/2008, -0/+8sure you dont, tubby

- andyb747, on 11/19/2008, -1/+9I'll stick to HGH.....thanks
- lovemorgul, on 11/19/2008, -2/+9It increases lean muscle mass, the rate of muscle protein deposition and increases heat.
- ldner77, on 11/19/2008, -0/+7My name, is Lester Burnham
- inactive, on 11/19/2008, -2/+9Zero side effects? Every drug has zero side effect..... until the side effects are actually discovered.
So how many diggers actually believe that there will be zero side effects suffered by users?. At the very LEAST its making your heart work 20% harder, possible strain leading to problems. That's even before scientific bio-chem analysis on a large sample. - BigManOnCampus, on 11/19/2008, -2/+8As was posted earlier muscle mass doesnt go linear with muscle strength.
Density of muscle, which is essentially never measured until after death, is where your strength is. - UselessTrivia, on 11/19/2008, -0/+6That's good, cause old people are cold all the time.
- Willravel, on 11/19/2008, -1/+7 Really strong zombies ≠ side effect?
- Abbeygargoyle, on 11/19/2008, -3/+9Just wait til players in the MLB get a hold of this...
- TheMachine1, on 11/19/2008, -1/+6"without serious side effects"
Dr. David Banner the MK-677 is ready for testing. - dha07030, on 11/19/2008, -1/+6Captain America?
- UselessTrivia, on 11/19/2008, -0/+5This would be great for weight loss. Adding more muscle would increase calorie consumption, which would make the same amount of exercise burn more fat.
- Mavital, on 11/19/2008, -0/+5Actually, there are some smart meat heads. I watched a special on TV once that had interviews with bodybuilders who's sole research was devoted to making steroid use safe. It involved a huge number of drugs to counter the steroid side effects. Pretty interesting stuff actually. I still wouldn't touch steroids with a ten foot pole, but I guess some people still have the balls to use them (no pun intended).
- Kotoyumu, on 11/19/2008, -0/+4Super Soldier Serum
- synapz, on 11/19/2008, -1/+5...spell correctly.
- Snoosy, on 11/19/2008, -0/+4Steroids can have very little to no side effects if you take them properly and do correct post-cycle treatments. It's the ones who abuse them/have no clue what they're doing that get horrible acne and small balls.
- CTK14A, on 11/19/2008, -1/+5In that case, maybe there ought to be side effects.
- Tbyrd073, on 11/19/2008, -0/+4If boner last for longer than 4 hours.....call more ladies!
- VTECjunkie, on 11/19/2008, -0/+4sweet, now stallone can do another rambo
- Tbyrd073, on 11/19/2008, -0/+4Having problems satisfying the ladies?
- sq2shooter, on 11/19/2008, -0/+4MK 677 = Spinach
- Splicernyc, on 11/19/2008, -2/+5And how does it stop the heart from building up 20% muscle mass as well - that can't be good.
- Procure, on 11/19/2008, -0/+3You have to eat, dude.
And:
http://www.amazon.com/Starting-Strength-Practical- ... - 2uantuM, on 11/19/2008, -0/+3Looks like procure is another rippetoes fanboy...
But he is right. You need to eat. A lot.
Calories In > Calories Out = Weight Gain
Doesn't matter who you are. - QuirozB, on 11/19/2008, -1/+4RTFA.
"..increased muscle mass in the arms and legs of healthy older adults without serious SHORT TERM side effects.." - wcoenen, on 11/19/2008, -0/+3Buried for misleading headline. The article actually states that the drug restores 20% of the muscle mass that was already lost due to aging. Not the same thing at all.
- unradical, on 11/19/2008, -0/+3I hope Jack LaLanne doesn't get ahold of this stuff, for all our sakes...
- ultraseamus, on 11/19/2008, -0/+3That is one way of looking at it, but I am picturing something more like this:
http://bp0.blogger.com/_Gd8NBIma-zo/R9HUHdd8qiI/AA ... - UselessTrivia, on 11/19/2008, -0/+2Possibly a difference in the type of muscle. It might be that this drug does nothing to involuntary muscles.
It is an interesting idea, though, to look at a drug that specifically targets heart muscle, because that could be another breakthrough in its own right. - benicillin1, on 11/19/2008, -0/+2those long term side effects are a bitch.. reminds me of the report the government just released admitting that 1 in 4 soldiers in the gulf war have gulf war syndrome, acquired because of the vaccination they were given to keep them safe from the gas that they never encountered. turns out the short term side effects were minimal but the long term effects were not quite as harmless...
- drmobutu, on 11/19/2008, -0/+2And it only took them seventeen years to find out...
