- Bhima, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I don't see why people are down on this.. It's a great idea and sounds like fun.
Instead of whining we should get together and sweeten the prize. I wonder what is the easiest way to contibute to the prize?
Oh.. and what the ***** is up with the speller thing... didn't work all weekend on my Mac and now here at work it doesn't work on IE... - dwxdwx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The flashlight offered as a prize goes for more than most DVDs. Definitely worth it. Besides, it matches the theme of the contest as it is a "generator" flashlight.
- piesforyou, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5"I know it's not a huge prize, but it's all I can afford sorry - it's not really about the money, public awareness and 'generating' new interest is what the competitions is all about."
- beelz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5sweet i wana see who wins and make one.
- Otto, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Ugh. Why post links to stupid blogs when the actual link to the story is right there?

blades, electric motor (that could also produce AC power). I don't think it would be all that challenging for someone in the know. - PostalRIT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2pretty sure you got that whole, wind generating thing backward.
- Alphabet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1If I could make a cheap wind powered machine, I'd patent it, and then sell it and make millions of dollars.
- kremvax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I like that the blog got early astro-turfed with a "windmills kill birds" petrolium industry sponsored post.
Funny how those people never seem to be protesting window manufacturers... Or auto dealerships... Or KFC.... mmmmmmm..... - mrcan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I only wish that the rules were more thought out. And to not be just a complainer:
1) No Scrap; all parts must be off the shelf so anyone can make it for the same price.
also how about a side contest with an added rule:
1) A normal person would mount this on their house and or yard.
Just some thoughts, I plan on entering with my two added rules. - EBFoxbat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You don't have to build it! Just design it. I'll be working on my design.
- eclectro, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Enter your designs to this real contest instead;
http://www.instructables.com/ex/i/945686DE1EEF10299AD7001143E7E506/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2If you want to generate wind, you don't need to spend all that money on that project or even on a bog standard fan - all you need is a can of beans, and somewhere where nobody is around. If you can't go to somwhere where there's nobody around, they won't be around for long once you start the wind generating process.
- eclectro, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3If you win the prize is a "flashlight." Is that the best they could do?? Are they so cheap that they couldn't give something like a DVD? Sure it's an interesting problem, but the prize is insulting. It's more like getting a handout so they would have free fodder for their website and not a "competition." They could at least be honest about it and not call it a "competiton". I suggest that everybody submit their designs to Make magazine instead. At least they pay for their content.
