- Hellmark, on 10/11/2007, -0/+40My family had a gunstore for years, and I have to say, I would not recommend WD-40. We were constantly having guns coming in that were freezing and gumming up, due to being frequently cleaned with WD-40. WD-40 leaves behind a carrier agent when it evaporates, which builds up like a shellac. If you use it enough, you might notice a yellow tinge, which is the remains of the dried WD-40. This is particularly bad in cold weather, when the normally gummy residue freezes, preventing the gun from working properly.
One unscrupulous locksmith that I had dealt with before recommended people to use WD-40 in their locks, because during the winter time, the locks would freeze, causing them to make a service call, of which he gets a premium for.
I would not, and I repeat WOULD NOT, recommend WD-40 for use as a lubricant on anything. - mrhaines, on 10/11/2007, -1/+33WD stands for Water Displacement. 40 stands for the 40th mixture of ingredients. It is basically a petroleum propelled cleaner fluid.
Anyone see the "King of the Hill" episode where Hank takes out his WD-40 for something and he can't get the lid of so he pulls a mini WD-40 canister out of a belt holster, sprays it on the larger WD-40 canister to open the lid? - jsballardx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+27It taste like burning!
- LLLSecretChimp, on 10/11/2007, -0/+24Try rubbing some cocaine on it.

- rebelcommander, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13I too have a hobby that requires the use of lubes. I too would never use WD40 for this job, it's about as bad as IcyHot.

- GiggleStick, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10It's even better when the tap dancer doesn't know you put WD-40 on their tap shoes. Then you get to see them do the Fred Flinstone running in place dance until they fall on their face.
- Ndiggnation, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Soooo..umm..what's the hobby? Maybe I shouldn't be asking..
- korashime2001, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Per the MSDS on WD40 (http://www.wd40.com/Brands/pdfs/msds-wd40_aerosol.us.pdf) it's harmful or fatal if swallowed. So if your going to use it to clean your favorite coffee cup, I'd run it through the dishwasher more than a couple of times. Just to be safe.
- 13B1303, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8yeah it does, as a young'n I used to spray my watter balloons just before throwing them. It blows in mid air and even if your aim sucks (and mine does) you still get your opponent

- DAaaMan64, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Ha thats what the scientists say anyway. If you knew anything, you'd know Sector 7 invented it in the early 50's upon dissection of Megatron's left eye.
- kirbs2001, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9The definitive list of stuff you need for your toolbox: Duct tape and WD-40.
If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct Tape
If it doesnt move and it should - WD-40
join the fan club - http://fanclub.wd40.com/ - Drexus, on 10/11/2007, -7/+14I read somewhere that WD40 is made mostly of fish... something-er-other and that it's eatable (don't quote me on that). You can also use it as scent on your finishing bait. Great stuff. WD40 and Duct Tape... what else could anyone need?
- CoolWind, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7from the referenced pdf: Ingestion: This product has low oral toxicity.
Please learn to read. - ScornForSega, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8The occasional bungee cord wouldn't hurt.
- mancat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I was going to comment for exactly the same reason.. WD40 is great for cleaning; it's a great spray solvent. It only lubricates temporarily, and evaporates quickly. If you clean a gun with WD40, you have to wipe very well and then apply the recommended type of gun oil.
A great spray lubricant is Liquid Wrench spray lube. Liquid Wrench spray penetrant is also much, much stronger than WD40 for the same cleaning/mechanical applications that require a strong penetrating spray solvent. Can't count the number of head/exhaust bolts that I've freed up with Liquid Wrench solvent, which didn't even budge after a 24-hour soaking with WD40. I've stopped using WD40 altogether. - spillingvoid, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7"Never use WD-40 on a firearm. It is not a substitute for gun oil. It breaks down in the barrel and turns to gunk over time, and it deactivates primers. Tip number 13 should be taken off this list."
I agree with this guy - jennamalia, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8I tried it, and now my monitor is all blurry.
- DestroyFascism, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7You tried?
- leedaflea, on 10/11/2007, -4/+10WD-40 being snorted is not fun though.
- Surreal, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I don't know how I feel about this shameless promotion of WD-40. Seems rather strange.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Use it on wallpaper? At least follow up on how to get rid of huge oil stains from your wall.

- dpittman42, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6 It can also be used as a delicious dessert topping.
- dakboy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5It's not a water proofer, it's a water displacer. Thus the WD in the name.
And, legend has it, they went through 39 formulations before finally finding one that was acceptable. Thus the 40. - InferiorWang, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5AquaNet was always my preferred potato gun propellant.
- n8r0n, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Main ingredients, from the material safety data sheet, are:
* 50%: Stoddard solvent (mineral spirits, also commonly known as dry cleaning solvent)
* 25%: Liquefied petroleum gas (presumably as a propellant, carbon dioxide is used now to reduce considerable flammability)
* 15+%: Mineral oil (light lubricating oil)
* 10-%: Inert ingredients - kaytrio, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Hey mydigga, use talcum powder. it removes oil from clothing. just powder your jeans and leave it overnight. the powder will absorb the oil, then you brush it off.
- etx313, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4You're funny, I like you.
- Banduin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4It's good on fishing bait because it removes human scent.
- judbeasley, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I've heard this before too. I might have to go with Placebo on this one though.
- bcat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Amen! WD-40, bungee cords, and duct tape are the only things that can convince me that the world doesn't *totally* suck.
