- babychen, on 04/14/2008, -6/+16Sex with robots is definitely in the pipeline. Long term relations, emotions, feelings etc are bound to happen too.
It would be interesting to watch how society and cultures would react to these developments. Expect a few hangings and mobs. - Exbzurq, on 04/14/2008, -2/+10Bender: "If anyone asks, you're my programmer. I don't want people thinking we're robosexuals."

Man Futurama was ahead of its time.
Fox be damned for killing it. - Shivatron, on 04/14/2008, -1/+9There was a good Outer Limits episode about this very topic. Does anyone else remember it?
- inactive, on 04/14/2008, -0/+7I've said it before and I'll say it again; robots are not to be trusted.
- slightlygifted, on 04/14/2008, -0/+6comedy central brought it back. keep up with the times man.
- ElBeh, on 04/14/2008, -0/+6Rule #34 on robots = Done.
- sockpuppets, on 04/14/2008, -4/+9Keep your mom out of this.
- elosorusso, on 04/14/2008, -2/+7I'll have a Lucy Liu-bot in no time.
- inactive, on 04/14/2008, -0/+5I'm looking for GLaDoS
- dptechie, on 04/14/2008, -0/+5Beware of Electro-Gonorrhea, the noisy killer.
- slightlygifted, on 04/14/2008, -0/+4i could never have sex with a robot or any machine. to afraid some nut out there rigged my robot with a meat shredder or something hidden up its snatch.
- 89vision, on 04/14/2008, -3/+7Fine just as long as the robot doesn't have daddy issues.
- Lochie, on 04/14/2008, -0/+3No thanks, dad, I'd rather make out with my Marilyn Monrobot.
- Kronos6948, on 04/14/2008, -0/+3I can't wait! Real Cylons!
- Kronos6948, on 04/14/2008, -1/+4The difference being is that these "interactive companions" are things we created, whereas slaves were human beings. On the scale, technically, these robots are closer to pets than anything. Once they achieve their own free will, then your analogy may be closer to being correct.
- sarixe, on 04/14/2008, -0/+3i don't suppose you've ever heard of Rape-X
- Skod, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2That was honestly very fascinating.
- impedance101, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2Ghost in The Shell
- acetv, on 04/14/2008, -2/+4There is already something extremely similar to this going on right now. Hell, it's probably been going on since farmers first realized they could have sex with tree stumps.
Check out this documentary, Guys and Dolls
http://preview.tinyurl.com/2dnadt - littlegraydude, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2you're a bit of a *****, aren't you?
- sarixe, on 04/21/2008, -0/+2true, but if i were you, i'd also be paranoid of practical jokes in that area...
- Lewie, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2"Baaah" means "yes"
- SeventhSon, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2I'd like to avoid relationships with robots. It'll be easier to cope with the impending robot revolution if I don't have any feelings for them. I wouldn't want to EMP my robot wife.
- Russellk30, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2Is there something wrong with that?
- Dustmuffins, on 04/14/2008, -0/+289vision was funnier
- slightlygifted, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2ya.......condom thing girls stick up there so if someone tries to rape them it stabs into their dick and stays there unless you go to hospital and admit to raping someone. dont think it would work though cause the rapist would probably get extremely pissed and just kill the girl.
- RobotBuddha, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2You're falling into the trap of assuming that humans can magically use our brains for aspects evolution hasn't programmed us for. Our brains are remarkably variable, but we're just as much slaves to our biology as the math for machine learning is to its underlying structure.
- inactive, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1SCIENCE BE DAMNED
- megaton, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1The point is that the distinction between human being and interactive companion is blurred. And that we make the "interactive companions" do thing they aren't immediately willed to do.
Yet, thank you, for recognizing the eventual free will of the robots. It sickens me to see the response that I've gotten regarding the slavery of artificial beings when we live in a world in which that's all they are. I don't think I'm out of line by even the slightest degree when we look forward to the day that some of our populace is made up of artificial beings. I hope they're greeted with more consideration than my mention of their plight... - dtfinch, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1http://youtube.com/results?search_query=chobits

- robthom, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1When the make one that looks like Kristanna Loken I'll marry it.
Its gotta come with a mute button though...
but that goes without saying. - inactive, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1half the people on digg cant think for themselves, so i wouldnt hold your breath
- NightVortez, on 04/14/2008, -2/+3No.
- inactive, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1 I gather the assumption is that they will do what they are told. Which is appealing when you do not want to do something that needs doing.
Robot companion, mow the lawn. Robot companion, fold the laundry. Robot companion answer the phone and if it's anyone other than Suzy Creamcheese tell them I'm not here. - Russellk30, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1Dont forget to bring the WD40. Chaffing, ouch!
- crashdvis, on 04/14/2008, -2/+3What the heck are you all slamming this for? This is probably the best chance that most of you Digg nuts are going to have at ever getting laid. A robot won't care that you live in your mom's basement. A robot won't care that you don't shower. A robot won't care that you don't have a job. A robot won't care that you have a bitchin collection of anime porn that you downloaded from the internet. A robot won't care that you hate the jooooos...you can even program it to hate the jooooos with you.
If I were you Digg nuts, I would stop slamming this story and start asking if you can pre-order your robot at Game Stop when you stop in to pick up your copy of the latest GTA... - Marrach, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1 The concept of developing 'relationships' with virtual beings and robot companions kinda creeps me out. Forget the 'robot revolution'-- What about dealing with people who only talk to things that tell them what they want to hear and shut up when they tell them to? How will they relate to normal people?
And robot pets? Something wrong is brewing here. - Kronos6948, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1Sad thing is that most of the general populace is afraid of things they don't understand, and most likely will feel encroached upon by robot sentience. There will be some of us who will see most robots and androids as benevolent, but I think that most people will see robots and think of all the sci fi films that portray robots as possibly malfunctioning and wanting to destroy all humans.
Funny thing is, if we treat them as slaves when they have some semblance of sentience, they just may rebel against us. - goldfishey, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1sounds like a battlestar galactica plot line.
- sanatarium, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1The prophecy of Futurama comes true.

- peterinjapan, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1One of the best anime/manga series to explore this subject, by CLAMP. A world where a "persocom" (i.e. a personal computer) is a beautiful girl that walks around with you.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chobits - julianrod, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1It's "Won't"
- MadHarvey, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1At this point, they are closer to Mr. Potato Head than a pet. They are just able to switch their expression accessories themselves...
- bryik, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1Robobeastiality?
- Russellk30, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1Just as long as they dont get all bitchy once a month.
