- lilfroger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9The title is TOTALLY misleading...he didn't re-write anything. He buged the write people and they didn't re-write anything they composed completely new programing!!!
I am digging this because it is the coolest dang thing to come to the deaf community since the implant itself!!!! - mrbean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Does anybody actually read articles anymore? I saw this in wired. He wasn't fifteen, he was fifteen when he first hear Bolero, and he didn't reprogram any software on his own.
- betterth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Okay people. Stop leaving corrections.
I think after the eight person corrected the age, the fact he didn't change it and the fact Bolero isn't a symphony that we get it.
"Everone who dugg this should be kicked off of DIGG!"
Everyone who skips all the comments to insult the diggers by making the exact same comments they are deserves to be kicked off digg.
Or worse, everyone who reads all the comments, than restates them in entirety only insulting those who posted before deserves to be kicked off. - rdpeng, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'd just like to add that Bolero is not a symphony.
- cusoman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah that guy is definitely not 15. He was 15 when he first heard the music he was trying to hack to hear again. I'll take "reading comprehension" for the block Alex!
- SenatorPenguin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Not a hacker, not 15, didn't rewrite the firmware, most misleading title possible. But a digg for an excellent article.
- leetsauce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nice description.
- driedwater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have a cochlear implant.. I got mine back in 1999 though.. so I can only get 8 channels unless I get another chip put into my head.. I think I'll wait 10 years till its 10 times better! I am happy to see the wonderful cochlear implant show up on Digg.. hopefully someday most of the public will know what the heck "that thing on his head" is.
- Gneisbaard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Did you even read the article?
It was a good read, but as far as i understood, the guy was born around '65.
And he didn't hack the thing himself, he buggerred sientists untill they did. - tachistoscope, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can I just...filter out that h-word completely?
That, and "firefox", "mac", "linux", "ipod".
Rant, rant rant. I need coffee - spider418, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh great, another cool story I DIDN'T post. Maybe I'll get another shot next week when RIAA goes after him for DMCA violation
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very cool. Although heading was misleading (not 15 yrs old) it is still a great read.
- evizaer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree with the people who think there should be a "misleading title/description" option for reporting stories.
The article is amazing. I really enjoyed reading it.
The title and description are as close to wrong as you can get. - TomP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Amazing story.
- Tom | http://www.tomwrote.info - DiddyWolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Misleading title, but it's an awesome story. Dugg.
- andreizilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Awsome article. I don't care about the misteaks, so I defenitely digg.
- Dwebtron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0great article, just mislabeled in digg.
- Vergeh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Misleading Digg, but a great story.
- Tracon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0great article need a better title and summary
- efisher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very moving article. As to the misleading description, it got all of us to read the story and I wasn't disappointed. The hacking aspect is still there, it was done by the developers of the device. Do you think that when this device was first designed, developed and deployed (d3) that anyone envisioned controlling the the electrodes in a continuously variable differential manner to simulate 121 electrodes from 8. That is hacking of a higher order! All it takes is (cliche alert) the imagination to go beyond the obvious.
- andreizilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like the ending: My hearing is no longer limited by the physical circumstances of my body. While my friends' ears will inevitably decline with age, mine will only get better.
- deafie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What is it with obsession with sound and music? This is not just about him, but the response to this article suggests normalisation.
- kiwimonk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have a new idea for digg. why not let us digg and suggest different titles for the listings and people can digg the title suggestions .
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Title + description wrong but the articles great. +digg
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dugg because it's a cool story.
- chillypepper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0old story, great article, horrible digg title
- rookieone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool, good for him, he really went out for this damn...he should be proud.
- BrowserBabe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0An article that brought a tear to my eye. I'm still not certain about cochlear implants or hearing aids, but it gives me hope to know even if I don't feel they make a difference for me for some they do. Now, I have to go listen to Boléro. Perhaps, maybe I could attempt to hear what he heard. Great Digg! Glad to see it since its new to me. : )
- briguyd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Read this artcle in Wired a few weeks ago. Still needs work, but we're getting there.
- Tybee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Digg for the coolness factor and what they're doing for the deaf community, but ten points off of the poster because both the title and the description of the link are extremely misleading. The author didn't tinker with anything on his own and I'm pretty sure he wasn't 15 even at the time they were messing with his implant to hear said music.
- treetree888, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Digg for the deaf community. Good read, excellent example of a hack.
- cantimolto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Rather than speculating what Boléro is/might be (opera? what?), here's the Wikipedia article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bolero_(Ravel)
anyone who did that music theory digg from a week or two ago shouldn't have trouble reading it. - Paulie68000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Blimey - lighten up - the guy made a mistake. Whoop-a-de-doo. Digg++ Its a great story.
- jeylux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0someone edit the discription on this story.... but still an awesome read.
- suspended, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That was an awesome read
I kept waiting for him to explain how he rewrote the firmware but it didn't come! :P Misleading title
+digg - TomJ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0description 0
story 10 - gooty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Worst title ever.. but an incredible article. +Dugg
- TechyLah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great! One of those "feel good" stories. For anyone temporarily thinking "what good is all this technology?" this makes it all worth it. Yes, we geeks have won!
- Jasruler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There needs to be a little "Misleading title/synopsis" option for the report dropdown menu.
- wizgha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0cool
- rivviepop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0what a fantastic article.
- CrashKC, on 08/25/2008, -0/+0That was a great article. Did it get booted from the front page or is it me?
- fitzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The title is a bit off, but good story anyways...
- DarkHack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm defiantly impress...
- layeroffrost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yes the title was misleading, but the classical music aspect got me reading it. fascinating story!
- v3xt0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0respek
- drjones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great story, poorly done dig.
- ApplePenguin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0misleading description, but very, very ***** cool...
- bigredgpk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's awesome, I just sent it to my sister (who got the implant 2 years ago).
I wonder how often they release firmware updates for these processor?
Timmay - oldcyborg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I will drop all my gripes about the article itself, in favor of reading of someone who can finally hear music again. If you never heard it, you could hardly miss it tooo much, but to have heard and loved it, and not be able to listen to anything remotely acceptable, would be a horrible loss.
SO, Digg to the fellah, and to the technical abilities that made it all happen. Good on ya, Geeks!!!
You know that is who made it happen... :)
