- trolleyfan, on 07/12/2009, -6/+235What part of "it's not a real science" don't they get?
- pintomp3, on 07/12/2009, -3/+156It's like numerologists wanting to give out math degrees.
- Tabascork, on 07/12/2009, -5/+133What the hell is a master's degree in science for if a bunch of idiots are just giving them away?
- kplo, on 07/12/2009, -3/+103All of it, I would guess.
- carlosos, on 07/12/2009, -1/+88The problem is that there exists already a Master degree for them. That is the Master of Theology.
I can't get an Master of Music in Chemistry so why should they be able to get a Master of Science in Creationism? - FapCommander, on 07/12/2009, -1/+79The science part
- ranon78, on 07/12/2009, -2/+76It's a Master of Science degree. Where's the science?
- rocknog, on 07/12/2009, -4/+77We're talking about creationists, critical thinking isn't generally their strong suit.
- frode!, on 07/12/2009, -1/+71Awesome. I have prepared my thesis and would like to be awarded a degree.
My Thesis
GOD DID IT
with all the sciency stuff out of the way let's go for drinks - LilJimmyNordin, on 07/12/2009, -2/+67I have an entire ROLL of ICR Masters Degrees. I keep it next to the toilet, on a special holder I had installed.
- inactive, on 07/12/2009, -2/+66I just got a Medical Degree from the Faith Healers College of Texas.
- careya, on 07/12/2009, -1/+51The problem lies in their redefinition of 'science'. Their graduates would meet the nominal requirements for a number of positions in education, allowing them to further 'dumb down' the curricula.
- Farth, on 07/12/2009, -1/+49The Theocrats are expert at manipulating language. In their minds, the ends justify the means.
- Hungryhaney, on 07/12/2009, -1/+45I didn't even know they (Creationists) tried to do this. o.O
Maybe I should apply to be able to dole out bachelor, masters and doctors degrees for the science of Star Wars. (My Jedi powers are for real, or have you EVER seen those droids!?!) - charlietuna, on 07/12/2009, -2/+44M.M. or Master of Mythology would be more accurate.
- Kyan, on 07/12/2009, -7/+47I find this a difficult topic to take a stand on. On the one hand, I say - let them hand out the degrees and the free market will kill them when their graduates find they are unable to get jobs in the real world and are laughed out of town. On the other hand, I'm really quite afraid that many school districts with boards headed by idiotic creationists WILL in fact hire those graduates and many children will begin getting poisoned with their views in schools. I guess that would lead to segregation of school districts and normal people living in the boundaries of such districts will be forced to either home school (ironic, is it?) or move the hell out.
- smitas, on 07/12/2009, -5/+43Well science education is very important today
- apzdsx, on 07/12/2009, -2/+39@MalarkeyPN
You were doing so well until, "...but they are not stupid." - wolfkeeper, on 07/12/2009, -0/+37and the real part; don't forget the real part
- Dipsomaniac, on 07/12/2009, -4/+40The ICR does not do any sort of science. They DO attempt to have their dogma re-defined as science.
If you had gone through the links you would have found out more about it. - CyclonusRIP, on 07/12/2009, -1/+34The creationists want to be able to make their own scientists, because it's really hard to find real scientists that want to do creation research.
- jezsik, on 07/12/2009, -0/+31It's not quite that simple. If someone has a law degree, you expect them to know something about the law. A degree in medicine, you'd expect them to know about medicine. You don't think to check to see if that degree came from the University of Dewey, Cheatem and Howe because we have an expectation that a degree is a threshold of achievement, much like passing a BAR exam, earning a Sargent's stripes or a Master Electrician certification.
- MyTakes, on 07/12/2009, -0/+30They want to an MS degree.. ? Why aren't they happy with their BS? *Ba dam ch*
- Yage2006, on 07/12/2009, -3/+32Do you know how ridiculous and delusional your argument sounds ?
- rocknog, on 07/12/2009, -1/+29I'm going with below. At least with the cereal box degree, you get a part of a balanced breakfast.
- falafelkiosken, on 07/12/2009, -1/+26shouldn't Master of Science degrees have something to do with science?
- TriNiiTy, on 07/12/2009, -2/+27I would like my doctorate in Droid Engineering with a minor in Ewok Foreign Language.
- EddiePotato, on 07/12/2009, -0/+24A Master of Music in Chemistry degree would be so very awesome.
- ianhiggs, on 07/12/2009, -1/+24Your misuse of the word theory is appalling. There is no science in your arguments. In truth, it should be called long day hearsay. At least that would rhyme.
- jasonbalmforth, on 07/12/2009, -2/+25What next, tabloid newspaper astrologers asking to be made accredited Astrophysicists?
- jayhawk88, on 07/12/2009, -2/+24Works pretty well for MBA factories...err, alternative education business schools.
It does kind of make you wonder though: Who's going to want a masters in creationist science? It's not like you're going to get a job at a school doing real science with it. - MnemonicDevice, on 07/12/2009, -2/+24Maybe I will start a school and hand out Masters of Science degrees for those who study the Star Wars encyclopedias and can remember key facts in lightsaber construction and Force manipulation.
- SamSks, on 07/12/2009, -3/+23In the name! You know Masters of >Science< it's right there! Geeze!
- copypastry, on 07/12/2009, -1/+20I can't decide if this is one step above or one step below a degree gotten from a cereal box.
- jezsik, on 07/12/2009, -1/+19Smacksaw, you miss the point completely. The purpose of publicly recognized degrees, certificates, ranks, etc., is to reduce the amount of effort required to confirm someone's qualifications. If someone got a BA from Indiana state, I'm pretty sure they have a certain level of education. I might confirm that they really DID go to Indiana, but what you suggest is that I also have to investigate if Indiana is a recognized university qualified to give degrees. Carry it a step further and you'd expect me to check to see if the classes my job candidate attended were delivered by qualified professors. No need to gum up the process by having multiple validations when a recognized body can do that for you.
- Seronis, on 07/12/2009, -1/+19Master in Theology, Master in Mythology, Master in Creationism (be blunt?). Award any of those. Im fine with that.
- EarlOfLade, on 07/12/2009, -2/+20In most countries, such titles are protected and carries objective criteria that needs to be met in order for any institution to be able to issue any such title. This again ensures that someone who calls themselves PhD, Doctor or similar actually have an accredited certification. This is obviously not the case here in the US which is probably why most people returning from studies in the US have to take local exams before they are allowed to use titles from US educational institutions, just to show they actually have the required knowledge and skills associated with the title.
- SamSks, on 07/12/2009, -1/+18The MBAs that run the HR departments will see an advanced degree and give the automatic raise that goes with it.
- Dipsomaniac, on 07/12/2009, -2/+18If they are letting their conclusions be influenced by religious considerations, then they are NOT doing science.
- Disgod, on 07/12/2009, -0/+16@Jez
He had a Masters in Music ON Chemistry. Subtle difference. - pintomp3, on 07/12/2009, -5/+21Dr. Paul?
- ianhiggs, on 07/12/2009, -2/+17Hey, if Jesus says it's science, then it's science damnitt!
- philb0t5000, on 07/12/2009, -1/+16All discussions of if they are right or wrong aside, what they teach IS NOT factual science and therefore they cannot award degrees. Make up some other degree to give out. There is nothing they can do. This isn't anything against their religion or what they teach exactlly. They cannot award the degree because what they teach is not what the degree is for.
- wolfkeeper, on 07/12/2009, -0/+15Well, they're very critical of evolution... ummmm point taken.
- MatzahMan, on 07/12/2009, -1/+16***** IGNORANCE
- inactive, on 07/12/2009, -2/+17China doesn't want Texas.
- papashawn, on 07/12/2009, -0/+14They can have it when I get to have my masters in Tarot Card Reading
- twishart, on 07/12/2009, -1/+14dugg for thumbnail
- asgardshill, on 07/12/2009, -1/+14I have a Master's Degree. In SCIENCE!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ask_Dr._Science - pinkfish411, on 07/12/2009, -1/+14jezsik is right. Bad degrees from diploma mills definitely cheapen the real degrees the rest of us have. People actually do get hired and get promotions with bad degrees, creating unnecessary competition for real degree holders and sometimes lowering people's opinion of a degree based on their experiences of people who earned them from fake or poor-quality schools.
