- DiggityCarl, on 07/31/2008, -1/+17WAY cooler than a segway......
- sweetbean, on 07/30/2008, -2/+16This has always been a bad idea.
- bunki8, on 07/31/2008, -0/+12250lbs.....don't know how practical that is really.
- thePTS, on 07/31/2008, -0/+7HOLY ***** THAT'S PRACTICAL!
- veriix, on 07/31/2008, -1/+7Awesome! Another way for rich people to kill themselves.
- oli5993, on 07/30/2008, -3/+10DO WANT
- Bmarofsky, on 07/31/2008, -1/+6I set no jets on that jet pack.
- MacParrot, on 07/31/2008, -0/+5Jet packs really just burn my ass
- bunnypants, on 07/31/2008, -0/+4Howard Hughes: How did it feel, strapping that thing to your back and flying like a bat out of hell?
Cliff Secord: [awed] Well it's the closest I'll ever get to heaven
[looking over at Jenny]
Cliff Secord: , Well maybe not. - Hudon689, on 06/13/2009, -3/+7RTFA, it has a parachute. Also, learn to spell.
- gasoline, on 07/31/2008, -0/+4It may actually fly well with fly-by-wire systems. Jetpacks are inherently unstable and flying should be done like the very unstable B-2 bomber is flown - computer interprets pilot's input.
- kponto, on 07/30/2008, -0/+4The world can see it on the front page.
http://digg.com/gadgets/Up_up_and_away_man_takes_o ... - seantubridy, on 07/31/2008, -1/+4Movies have killed my excitement about real world technology. I was expecting something more like the Rocketeer.
- Dometheus, on 07/31/2008, -2/+5Man was not meant to fly, except after passing through security at the airport, hoping they are not on the terrorist watch list, and then get on the plane.(and it lands safely)
And if the parachute was deployed, how do you tuck and roll?( Smash!!) - duckyinc, on 07/31/2008, -0/+3Not practical?
- bloominoctober, on 07/31/2008, -0/+3FTA: "people will use it for fun, as a jetski or snowmobile for the sky"
In other words, rednecks will have something new to strap their asses to before yelling, "Hey y'all. Watch this!" and then promptly killing themselves in front of all of their friends and family. - DraxusD, on 07/31/2008, -0/+3They were busting those ads you see in a newspapers/magazines/whatever that offer a guide to build your own jetpack.
- Letram, on 07/31/2008, -0/+2Practical? What do you mean practical. Listen to the noise that thing makes.
- TannerLD, on 07/31/2008, -0/+2I was at Oshkosh on Tuesday when they unveiled this "jet pack". It was not very impressive and I could only see the top of the pilot's head. Sure, the crowded probably did limit them, but couldn't he have flown a bit more freely? I didn't know he was held down by two guys until today (mainly cause I couldn't see). A few people even yelled "Boo" after seeing it. Though I do believe they said they were going to do some more flying later in the week.
- chrysrobyn, on 07/31/2008, -1/+3Didn't Mythbusters build something like this? They made a big deal about the fans and the lift generated on the leading edge of the ring around the fans and stuff. Didn't they "bust" it? Anybody remember exactly what they were busting?
- greenvortex, on 07/31/2008, -0/+2Actually, it looks like they need to infuse the Segway's gyroscopic control into this thing.
- Tape99, on 07/31/2008, -0/+2I sorry that my first language is not english and that im not as Fluent as you are.
- liuite, on 07/31/2008, -0/+2no jets. it is VTOL w/o wings. a dual rotor heli.
- sdbyrd, on 07/31/2008, -0/+2i was expecting more for this to be 2008
- lindseylu, on 07/31/2008, -0/+2I just want to be able to fly one to work every day.
- devnullDood, on 07/31/2008, -0/+2I don't consider 5 Gallons per 30 miles practical.
- gllopc, on 07/31/2008, -0/+2Where does the line start?
- copyland, on 07/31/2008, -0/+2does it come with the two guys to help?
- TannerLD, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1Rocketeer sounds a lot neater too one you shut it off.
- Carburetor, on 07/31/2008, -1/+2Iron Man?
- bjs3171, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1notice how the headline is "could the world see...", and not "the world now has..."
- bloominoctober, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1Not the end of traffic jams .... just moving the traffic jams to the skies.
- glasnostic, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1its not a pack if its wider and heavier then i am.
it should have a cockpit. then it would be cool. - vdogg89, on 08/01/2008, -0/+1helicopters are excellent gliders. If the engine fails, it wont fall to the ground. However, this jetpack will fall to your death
- liuite, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1it has better passenger mile per gallon than a jetski. jetskis have worst pmpg than helicopters or cruiseships.
- bjs3171, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1it's practical for flying. can't you read?
- inactive, on 07/31/2008, -2/+2There is a name for people like that. Beta testers.
- vilago, on 07/31/2008, -2/+2i saw this on the news yesterday at the gym. it looks so crappy and bulky right now in it's current form. they had 2 guys holding onto it while it hovered about. it looked like the dude driving it had no control over where he was going. but who knows? in the future (after they improve it) there might be places where you can buy or lease them like vehicles and everyone will be commuting to work in them. the end of traffic jams! just imagine the possibilities!
- Jarasmen, on 07/31/2008, -1/+1Good luck falling to your death in flames. Maybe the propeller blades won't cut up everyone nearby.
- dwright99, on 07/31/2008, -3/+3What a waste and not impressive at all. I'm sticking with my flying car.
- sts9junkie, on 07/31/2008, -2/+2My son will freak-Hes always thought about 'inventing' the personal jetpack. I think he was inspired by Buzz Lightyear,
- Splicernyc, on 07/31/2008, -3/+3People can barely walk without bumping into things and they think jetpacks are practical? Some motorcyclists are bad enough (the "crotch rocket" riders) with their 100+ mph weaving in and out of highway traffic - I can only imagine what these idiot daredevils would do with a jetpack.
- inactive, on 07/31/2008, -0/+0What a ***** demonstration. I'm sure the size of the crowd limited what they could really do with it. Not impressed with this jetpack yet, there's a guy who made one that performs at monster truck rallies and other large venues, and his jetpack zips across the sky.
- gkiltz, on 07/31/2008, -2/+2Practical jet pack?
Practical for WHAT?
Winning a Darwin Award?
Practical Jet Pack=Oxymoron! - TannerLD, on 07/31/2008, -1/+1Helicopters go down if their engine stops working, course they can autorotate, but same gist.
- bjs3171, on 07/31/2008, -2/+2you're right. so they shouldn't pursue this at all. after all, someone could get hurt.
- Tape99, on 07/31/2008, -2/+2Think about all the crashs that are going to happen?
If you're cars dies all that happens is its stops moving.
If you're jetpack stops working you will fall to you're death.
And now are they going to get poeple to fly in a direction?
We will be all over the plase, there will be way to many crashs.
- slave1, on 07/31/2008, -1/+0Try swallowing that, Sarlacc bitch!
- rabidbob, on 07/31/2008, -2/+1I see the future of my daily commute and I am happy!
