- LostAngeles, on 06/26/2008, -0/+8In an equally controversial experiment, scientists encourage drug addicts to gamble more as a mean of curbing substance dependency
- rhbama13, on 06/26/2008, -0/+3So you can't stop gambling...
here take this crack - aquireworth, on 06/25/2008, -0/+3I love that the casinos in Vegas have gambling anonymous posters everywhere. They're pretty much saying "please lose all your money at our tables and if you have a gambling problem we're going to pretend to care by putting posters up so you can get help. Did we mention the phone numbers on the posters aren't real?"
- Omega037, on 06/26/2008, -0/+3Electroshock therapy is actually pretty good for stopping addicting behavior. You don't even need to pay for expensive treatments, just a car battery, some electrodes connected to your balls, and a friend you can trust.
- FuryOfThor, on 06/25/2008, -0/+3this could be the first drug organized crime tries to stop
- popstation, on 06/26/2008, -0/+2I been smoking crack for the last 3 months and I bet I'm getting cured soon.
- inactive, on 06/26/2008, -2/+4The value of this is questionable if it means people are stuck popping pills daily for the rest of their life. They'd be better off with a weekly session with a therapist and a support group.
- QuarterRican, on 06/26/2008, -1/+3This is retarded. Drugs can stop you from doing anything. For instance, want to stop gambling? Take cyanide. l2science
- inactive, on 06/26/2008, -0/+2This kind of therapy has been tried many, many times in the last 70 or so years and has never worked. Why? Because you have to have a comprehension of the mechanisms of addiction to create a working therapy, and right now we don't. We know that addictions are partly organic (genetic) sometimes metabolic, and partly triggered by environmental factors. Apart from that it is all a locked black box, and there are several different theories in neurology about how addiction functions, but sadly we just don't have a handle on that stuff yet.
Good luck, though. - Azselendor, on 06/26/2008, -0/+2This makes me wonder when a drug will be made to cure my addiction to digg.
- thurows, on 06/26/2008, -1/+3I don't want to gamble. I don't want to gamble. Ah *****, now I'm a drug addict.
- Ne007, on 06/26/2008, -1/+3I don't take anything sorry. If I need to make changes, then I change my behavior.
- eecue, on 06/26/2008, -0/+2In one vice and out the other.
- BitKid, on 06/26/2008, -0/+2Agreed. Naltrexone has been used in an attempt to combat other addictions such as to alcohol or opiates, so it is not surprising that someone went out and did a study of its effects on gambling addiction. They could probably do similar studies on the effects of Naltrexone on bulimia or sex addiction. Naltrexone basically blocks your opiate receptors and prevents your body from producing the amount it normally would, which is theoretically beneficial when someone is engaging in behavior that would precipitate higher endorphin production. I don't think that there is any one magic bullet for any kind of addiction though. Different people need different types of targeted treatment depending on what they are addicted to.
- Hangly, on 06/26/2008, -1/+2Low doses of amphetamines curb most of my impulsive behavior.
Not meds though, I just drink ephedra tea in the morning. No comedown, no side-effects. - BitKid, on 06/26/2008, -0/+1Right, that's exactly what they did in the study shown in the article.
- vcoach, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1The drug companies want to produce a drug for everything. It's almost as if they would like to create new afflctions just so they can develop and market a new drug. A drug for Gambling will do absolutey Zero for combating Gmabling addiction, since it is a compulsion that diverts one from dealing with their own emotional pain. In other words it takes your mind off of reality and in many ways it is a false boost to self-esteem. If you are winning of course!
I am an Addiction Recovery coach, and i have worked with clients suffering from Gambling addiction.
I have written an article on the subject if anyone wants more info;
http://www.5stepstoaddictionfreedom.com/gamblingad ... - thegoodsteer, on 06/26/2008, -0/+1that would show them that there is a reality beyond the limitations of gambling and their addictions, but of course, most people are too closed minded and will just give them happy pills. great.
- wynja, on 06/26/2008, -0/+1Pharmaceuticals solve everything..... where's that anti-fat pill I laid down gotten off too.
- bxblox, on 06/26/2008, -0/+1...sand the person who can't spell said.
- Azselendor, on 06/26/2008, -0/+1*****, give me a penny and a lightsocket
- sjm20k, on 06/26/2008, -1/+2like your preacher, rush?
- 9thisisme, on 06/26/2008, -0/+1Maybe, if gambling addiction was real.
- bxblox, on 06/26/2008, -1/+1If a pill was the equivalent of a support group and weekly session, I'd opt for the pill.
- dayfornight, on 06/26/2008, -2/+2They'd rather try ibogaine or ayahuasca :-)
- dafragsta, on 06/26/2008, -1/+1... sand the person who is, by probability, a caffeine slurper, among other domesticated substances, I'm sure.
- psychop13, on 06/26/2008, -0/+0I am a trader..can this drug heal me..
- xEn1gma, on 06/26/2008, -1/+1Lmao sjm
- inactive, on 12/05/2008, -0/+0since gambling is in your brain, it makes some sense.
http://www.internal-hemorrhoid-treatment.com - thurows, on 06/26/2008, -2/+1I don't want to gamble. I have money to buy drugs. Ah *****, now I'm a drug addict.
- inactive, on 06/26/2008, -2/+1People with drug addictions or gambling problems are just weak minded. Nothing can save them from unless they realize that fact.
- lobotomi, on 06/26/2008, -1/+0They could be a bit more scientific and tell what the drug is and what the "feel-good chemicals" are. Naltrexone? Dopamine?

What is Digg?
