- malorkus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+48Plus it lists Scientology as a religion, instead of a business which protects its "trade secrets" via litigation.
- FKnight, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31Inaccurate headline. Not even NEAR "Every Religion"
- jay7890, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28Where is Flying Spagetthi Monsterism in the list? Oh them noodly appendages have touched us.
- malorkus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Jews don't try to convert people. And of course there used to be somewhat more, but that was in Eastern Europe in the 1930's.....
- mastercheif, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18For those of you who have not been enlightened by the worlds only true relegion

That's exactly how I became an agnostic at age 13. I was reading Greek myths, and we were doing the Crusades in my history class, and I was just like, "Hey, wait a second..."
Still find the subject fascinating, though. Man, us humans are weird. - azzageddi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Whatever your opinion of it, religion is one of the most important parts of most people's lives. If non-believers (like me) are going to thrive in this world, we'd do well to understand what we're dealing with.
- tdurden76, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I remember having read a quote of some writer who said: "Men are certainly stark mad. They can not create a single living thing, yet they create Gods by dozens."

um... Sufism is part of Islam and i think i should know because i am a Sufi - vogelzang, on 10/12/2007, -9/+17Go atheists!
- nerditup, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8what is the religion in which the people of World of Warcraft believe in?
- Badger80, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10@ sbutcher
The same could be said of TV evangelists, always seemed to me that they worship “self, money, power” - micro506, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Hey, where's Linux?
- Kamic, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Very Nice Chart, now... where do I order my ticket to the best afterlife... oh right, I gotta worship something, but none of them seem to have everything correct.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13lol thats right gotta include us pastafarians ;)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pastafarian - lonelycanuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Im impressed that they understood hinduism isnt a "belief in many gods".
- ksponge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7dvpdziyn, I find your comment quite amusing. Being a pure clean atheist, I can tell you, there is absolutely zero belief in anything of the sort now, nor will there be in any adverse situations I encounter, all the way up to the time I fade into nothing. The reason you cannot grasp this, is your illogical thought patterns. You can't imagine this, therefore it can't be. We are just hiding and one day will be shivering on the floor asking for forgiveness from the sky. Sorry, you are jaded by religion, and your thoughts are not coherent. You cannot make clear minded observations, and really, any atheist will chuckle and shake their head while walking away from you with a knowing grin. Continue to play the fool for our amusement.
- FlatL1ne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It is extremely important to understand religions, and other peoples beliefs, because a lack of understanding could lead to fear and then to xenophobia.
And on a side note for the atheist it is a good way to debunk them (but always in respect of the others views ).
-let's create peace and understanding, not fear and war- - sbradish, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Um that comes under Christianity - Wikipedia: The Seventh-day Adventist Church is a Christian denomination ...
- wheremyarm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Hey rodan:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pascal%27s_wager#Criticisms_of_Pascal.27s_wager
Notice how that section actually takes up most of the article? Read before you comment. Besides, do you really think your god is stupid enough to fall for "I'm just believing to be on the safe side?" - hackwrench, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8That's why I form a composite.
- avenger069, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4No, Freemasonry is not part of the Christian church. Some Christian churches will not even allow their members to be a Mason (see Missouri Synod Lutherans and others). Freemasonry simply requires that you believe in a supreme being. So you can be a Christian, Muslim, or whatever to be a Mason.
- SAGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4From what I read the REAL number of scientologists is less than 100 thousand.
http://www.daisy.freeserve.co.uk/stolgy_4.htm - tachyon2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4To allan17, if you just pulled one out of a hat, you wouldn't really be believing, so you would probably still end up going to hell. That's the flaw with Pascal's Wager: betting isn't believing, and a truly omnipotent God would know if someone was just betting to save his or her soul from hell or actually really and truly believed.
- writerboyVSgod, on 10/12/2007, -3/+71.1 billion athiests, agnostics and non-religious? Wow. Is it just me or does that seem like a huge jump. Another few decades and maybe we can get past this whole make believe gods thing and actually get the human race moving forward.
- Fruity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4As far as I know in ref quote:
"Founded by Jesus Christ in c. 30 AD, Israel."
Jesus did not 'found' the church himself. He was a Jew, his disciples did. And even that is debatable. (And no, I have not found a passage in the Bible stating "And now I have founded a religion and I will call them by my surname, Christ-ians" - hackwrench, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syncretism
Stupid magical comment genie! - distrbnce, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yeah, I considered that, but still 14 Million seems pretty low. Maybe you should consider some pamphlets.
Well, good luck anyway. - MrColdheart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3yeah Im glad you said it because thats the first thing I noticed...its nowhere near complete..
for everyone looking for a complete chart please be aware that there are 150,000 difrent religoins on this planet. - wastern, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3the freemasons aren't a religion, they require you have a religion before joining
- rationalhead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2SOOO,which is the right one ? and how do you know?
this just shows how weird the whole concept of religion is.
(omnipotent being) revealed himself in thousands of ways to reflect the customs of each culture.
isn't it amazing .LMAO - fr0gger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Atheism is not a religion. There are atheist religions, such as Buddhism, but atheism is simply a claim that there is no god. A more common definition of atheism is secularism - the rejection of beliefs in the supernatural, including gods and afterlife.
It is a common claim of the christian fundamentalists, for example Coulter in Godless, that atheism is indeed a religion that is based on the rejection of the traditional values and the adoption of new values such as freedom, equality, environmental responsibility, ets. A value system, however, is not automatically a religion.
A religion is a set of values that must include irrational faith in supernatural phenomena. Atheism does not preclude such faith, but also does not require it. - tachyon2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Christian denomination.
- ikak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That is a very good question in which I also wish to know the answer for!
- shanealeslie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2And They forgot The Church of the Subgenius, those that embrace all the holidays they can get, and laze about in hopes of becoming one with the holy slack.
All Hail BOB!

- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I was surprised by that too, being jewish, ..but as malorkus almost said, 6 million were slaughtered a few decades ago so the number would be much higher now had the event not occurred..
- mc7winkie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Very Good. Now this will become the default location for resolving all religous diputes on digg.
- TheKingOfHell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hey, where's Discordianism? Yes, they missed so many. list's great, though.
- JamesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2my favorite is Church of the Universe:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_Of_The_Universe - PurpleMeteor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Some branches of freemasonry (in Europe for example) does not even require you to believe in something, but they are not "official" according to the big lodge in UK.
- therernospoons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2why laugh at falun gong? Try googling it in China, and you'll encounter the Great Firewall...that says a lot about it.
- distrbnce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What? So I'm the only Greecian Religionist left? Thor damn you all!
Also, there are only 14 Million Jews...? - DCGaymer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The Gods of PhatL3wt
- thebeaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thank you. Try not to represent us in public in the future.
- JeffBoyaredi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Science?
- tcsajax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I really wouldn't consider Atheism as a "religion".
- kapurcell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Bugt many of those 150K religions are sects of the major faiths. Like many Christians would not say Mormons are Christians but Mormons say they are Christians. So I would not list them as a separate religion on this kind of chart.
- RodeoRobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why do people talk about choosing a religion (or not choosing one) like they're shopping? Religion isn't like a cool shirt or something you try on for kicks. It's your total view of the world. It's part of what makes you you.
The important thing is not whether you believe in a God not. All that matters is if what you believe is true or not. And not just "true for you," but true for everybody, supported by evidence, experience, reason, and common sense. - saudama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very informative article. It helps understand a little more about other religions.
- dvpdziyn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ksponge
Thank you for your logic. I understand how amused you are. The views we hold are incompatible. Yet I maintain that you have faith in yours. You believe that your viewpoint is completely founded on empirical, observable data. You find my illogical conclusions amusing. Imagine how it looks from the other end, friend. I know you don't think you 'believe' in anything. I wonder if you realize how amusing that concept is to others. So I wonder then, who looks down on who? Who pities who? Who is most amusing? We can lecture each other on reason, logic, skepticism, and the like for days on end (and from the sound of it, you would probably win such an argument). We can both produce experts in fields of philosophy and physical science to support our views (though the social sciences would not have much support for my views). Yet in the end, you still believe in what you want, and you believe it to your core. You laugh at my thinking - go ahead. You think I am a fool - go ahead. I will serve as the fool if need be. -
