- sjbdallas, on 06/29/2009, -3/+35At first I thought it said "PETS" and was trying to wonder why they would invent a meat-eating robot.
- fhernand, on 06/29/2009, -1/+32it begins.
- teamgwho, on 06/29/2009, -0/+27PETA doesn't like anything.
- mriojas, on 06/29/2009, -1/+25It's all fun and games until it becomes Skynet.
Someone knock on the door to my fallout shelter when this is over. - peteinakl, on 06/29/2009, -2/+19It "eats", so it has to poop, right!?
"Worlds First Pooping Robot" would get more attention - they're doing it wrong! - TMWO, on 06/29/2009, -0/+14It'll probably be the robots knocking. If it sounds metallic, don't open
- Darph.Bobo, on 06/29/2009, -0/+13PETA's not gonna like this....
- DeathJux, on 06/29/2009, -0/+12You had me at "Carnivorous Robots."
- nilhilustfreder, on 06/29/2009, -0/+10They like sea kittens!
- nyxerebos, on 06/29/2009, -1/+9I may, however, be interested in a robot which eats other people's pets. Little noisy-ass barking dogs, for instance.
- GuyFlash, on 06/29/2009, -0/+8lol I was going to ask... does anyone else think this is a REALLY bad idea?
- nyxerebos, on 06/29/2009, -1/+9A robot slowly digesting mice in your living room. Sounds hygienic. Bet it smells wonderful too. Now they just need a clear plastic window so you can show the fuel cell off to women you bring home.
"Hey baby, wanna come back to my place and see my collection of half-digested mice in the coffee table?" - SnowdonJames, on 06/29/2009, -2/+9does anyone else think this is just another step towards the robot apocalypse?
- idc5, on 06/29/2009, -1/+8how does a table digest a whole mouse?
- coolcole93, on 06/29/2009, -3/+10Before they evolve and use tools and stab us and eat our skin.
- schadenfreude87, on 06/29/2009, -1/+7"When the mouse stands on the trapdoor in the centre, sensors open the door and it falls into the microbial fuel cell."
Not exactly humane, is it? - catfish182, on 06/29/2009, -0/+6Carnivorous Robots? I am sure someone has done this as a movie already.
- Codik, on 06/29/2009, -0/+6Nothing like rotting mice smell to bring up an appetite at the table.
- TekTrixter, on 06/29/2009, -0/+6noisy ass-barking dogs...
- shandromand, on 06/29/2009, -0/+6What about the smell? Surely bacterially decomposing mice doesn't smell like roses...
- blinky04, on 06/29/2009, -0/+5Anyone who can afford a coffee table that eats mice probably doesn't have a rodent problem.
- shinyplastic, on 06/29/2009, -0/+5I bet they'll eat the house chihuahuas as well...
- teamgwho, on 06/30/2009, -0/+4ok, they like one thing.
- tgc1, on 06/29/2009, -1/+5I can't wait until one of these things gets a line of bad code in it and goes all terminator on its owner.
- cbeach, on 06/29/2009, -1/+5Simply love the idea. When my iPhone is charged by a mouse genocide I will be a happy man
- roostersheep, on 06/29/2009, -1/+5Oh you're going to be around for a long time. I can tell!
- StutterMilk, on 06/29/2009, -1/+3Smart. Instead of waiting for the robots to become sentient AND learn to kill, let's give them a head start by programming them to kill. Who makes these? Skynet?
- WHOOMP, on 06/29/2009, -0/+2I really want to see the one that steals flies from spiders webs in action, that concept sounds hilarious
- dan0uch, on 06/29/2009, -3/+5So...you have to deliberately leave crumbs on the table, in order to coax a mouse into crawling over the top of it into a trap door, where it then gets digested alive? Somehow I think that people who are bothered by mice aren't going to like the idea of them running across their table and then having them be digested right in their own living rooms. Not to mention that's horribly cruel to the mouse.
- shandromand, on 06/29/2009, -1/+2Only after I get some power armor (preferably the Tesla version).
- Lefts, on 06/29/2009, -5/+6I thought it said penis, and then I screamed in horrifying terror.
- MaxIsBored, on 06/29/2009, -6/+7Get a ***** cat already, idiots.
- RichMan, on 06/29/2009, -1/+2Mousetrap iPhone app.
Set your iPhone on the floor and the screen shows an old fashion mousetrap complete with cheese. Mouse tries to nab cheese and gets devoured by iPhone.
Also, looks cooler than feeding a snake! - Nudar, on 07/01/2009, -0/+1Guam could use some carnivorous robots to do away with the brown tree snake.
- SuperStromboli, on 06/29/2009, -3/+4I would only buy one if it could eat children too. I hate those little *****.
- RobotBuddha, on 06/29/2009, -0/+1Sounds a bit like the stuart little version of death bed.
- vizerei, on 06/30/2009, -0/+1Seriously, look at his digg history. Over 83,000 diggs in just a year. Most of them are strings of diggs.
- defwheezer, on 06/29/2009, -0/+1Not a movie, but the military has been toying with this idea for some time... with obviously frightening consequences:
http://mental-escher.blogspot.com/2008/09/cyberpun ... - defwheezer, on 06/29/2009, -1/+2Military version of meat eating robots described here (using microbial 'fired' fuel cells):
http://mental-escher.blogspot.com/2008/09/cyberpun ... - csg123, on 09/05/2009, -0/+1interesting news, robots eager to eat your pests !!
http://www.bulwarkpestcontrol.com/lasvegaspestcont ... - xero69, on 06/30/2009, -1/+1Um mice urinate and crap randomly. I don't want to entice them on to my kitchen table even for a moment.
- miquonranger031, on 06/29/2009, -7/+7In short, WHAT THE ***** IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM
- azpat, on 06/29/2009, -1/+1Does it smell bad when it's digesting the mouse/flies in the fuel cell? It would be good to see the fuel cell applied to the mouse-zapper trap or something a bit smaller and more likely to be stuck in a crawl space under your house. Set it, forget it. If there are mice, it will eat them. If not, good.
- TMWO, on 06/29/2009, -1/+1I can't see picture 7. Is that intentional or something?
Anyway, the one in pic 5-6 is really the only interesting one as far as actually using them go. But it's a neat concept. Fueling your machines with insects. Another step away from burning precious plastics for heat
Also: Apocalypse, giant braineating wasp-bots, etc - Hortinstein, on 06/29/2009, -1/+1I for one welcome our new flesh eating robot overlords...naming mine Hannibal
- Elranzer, on 06/29/2009, -3/+2chris1234 is the new MrBabyMan
- Nebarik, on 06/29/2009, -3/+1noisy ass barking-dogs
- panicjames, on 06/29/2009, -4/+2It's like the Wasp Factory! Wonder if they'll run around setting fire to dogs next.
- Aussiedeza, on 06/29/2009, -2/+0Myth... Technology is our savior not our demise.
- gkiltz, on 06/29/2009, -3/+0Look for dogs and cats to fight back, and eventually develop survival skills!
Just remember: Dogs have ALREADY beaten HUMANS at the game of evolution, we are just too self-righteous to accept it!
They have not developed our level of brain sophistication, no, but there are, if you count all the wolves, coyotes, foxes, wild dogs, feral dogs, and domesticated dogs, 19 distinct species of canines in the world, the oldest of which has been around at least 250,000 years! There is ONE species of Hominid, which has been around not much more than 40,000 years!
Come back in another 40,000 years! There WON'T be any more hominids! There will STILL be several species of canine!
It's all about adaptability, not smarts! -
