- phrost88, on 07/06/2009, -7/+45The reason why people aren't aware of our army, is because we don't invade countries with false pretenses... lol... just because you have an army, doesn't mean you have to use it all the time you know...

- potamkin, on 07/06/2009, -1/+21People shouldn't bad mouth Canada's military. They were fighting in WW1 AND WW2 before the Americans, and they're fighting in Afghanistan as we speak.
- itachi01, on 07/06/2009, -5/+24Dugg for Canada and the CF-18!

- apetrie, on 07/06/2009, -2/+17There are 10x as many people in the U.S. as Canada, no I don't know the numbers for those times, but the U.S. has been a larger country population-wise from the start.
If the US forces didn't have more of an impact, that would be pretty ***** pathetic now wouldn't it?
Oh and, Canada got into WW2 much, much earlier. Americans twiddled their thumbs during the genocide and invasion of sovereign nations until it personally affected them. Oh.. I guess some things never change. - Paranor01, on 07/06/2009, -0/+14@vroom101:
our boys = Canadian
your boys = American - effedup, on 07/06/2009, -1/+15If that's the logic you're using it would make the U.S. Canada's *****.
- CDNChaoZ, on 07/06/2009, -1/+14Yes Canada has jets now and no, they're not powered by bacon or maple syrup.

- bugwayji, on 07/06/2009, -0/+10 It did not happen because the U.S. was scared because Canada was willing to sell the Avro Aero to any country. And it was the dawning age of the Nuclear Missile, and Def' bought that was the new way, and fighters would be obsolete soon. And yes while the American's were trying to break the Sound Barrier, the Avro was tested at mach 2.
Most of the employees of the Avro Company, were hired by American Aircraft designers, soon after it was shutdown. Defenbaker had no balls, to bad!
http://www.globalaircraft.org/planes/cf-105_avro_a ... - DulcetTone, on 07/06/2009, -0/+10Inspired by them, however
- ugacrew, on 07/06/2009, -0/+10rhoonah. I'm an American and I'm digging you down for the incredibly ignorant statement you just made. Canada didn't have to involve themselves at all but they did it anyway out of honor for themselves, country, and willingness to fight for the better cause. I give my hats off them and any one who serves their country in time of war. They earn equal respect with out regard to how large their presence is. Any presence is more than enough.
- ugacrew, on 07/06/2009, -0/+9Dugg for my neighbor up north, the CF-18, and a kick ass photograph!
- charlietuna, on 07/06/2009, -0/+9Superb paint job eh?
- inactive, on 07/06/2009, -2/+10it may have been agead of its time but it would still be obsolete now.
- FearlessFreep, on 07/06/2009, -0/+8Canada! ***** Eh!
- apetrie, on 07/06/2009, -1/+8Ranzera: In reality, the whole argument is ridiculous. The fact is that whenever something about Canada's military (which is well respected around the world and I hardly need to defend them) comes up, Americans jump into the thread and start belittling Canada's military might. Its pathetic and deserves to get jabbed back. Truth is, I'm sure neither myself nor rhoonah are really informed enough to make judgments on it then, or now.
nosecohn: The selective nature of American interference in other countries implies otherwise. - Nboy514, on 07/06/2009, -0/+6Not since last year anyways!
- BotchaMcCoola, on 07/06/2009, -3/+9Smaller military overall. Maybe they are not as wobbly-kneed afraid of Muslim Hillbillies as the US, or simply enjoy having a financially sound country? Why don't they spend a hundred thousand to send a soldier close enough to an Iraqi to get shot or blown up? Must not be very "patriotic" I reckon.
- alpha88, on 07/06/2009, -1/+7CANADA, ***** YEAH!
- Yazilliclick, on 07/06/2009, -2/+8The avro was cool and had lots of potential but it didn't happen and it was quite some time ago.
- DigitalDIY, on 07/06/2009, -2/+8No criticism of the military up north there really. You all seem to be on the right side and do your part. Lets be clear though, it's really just an American aircraft with a cool Canadian paint job. Even Wikipedia has it right "The McDonnell Douglas CF-18 Hornet (CF-188) is a Canadian Forces aircraft, based on the American F/A-18 Hornet." Still nice photo.

- Paranor01, on 07/06/2009, -1/+5Always baffles me this "US forces would kick your ass" commenting. Who really cares? though we do tend to do better in war games against US forces... not to mention Canada-US war hehehe
- Mujokan, on 07/06/2009, -3/+7So... from what I can understand...
The plane is causing a cone-shaped shock wave as it forces its way through the air. This pushes the air to the point where it can't be compressed any more. Then, later in the shock wave, the air suddenly rebounds and there is a big drop in air pressure. At this point the water in the air all condenses into droplets. Then the air returns to normal pressure and the droplets disappear. A collar of water droplets therefore travels along with the plane, constantly condensing and disappearing as it moves through the air. - Brooks007, on 07/06/2009, -0/+3source?

I love canada and all but i think there F-22s would knock are 18's outta the sky pretty quick - grantmoore3d, on 07/06/2009, -1/+4It's not breaking the sound barrier, it's just stuck in the snow in the sky.

EXHIBIT B -- Excerpt from the article "The Raptor in the Real World " by John A. Tirpak, published in the February 2007 issue of Air Force Magazine (Vol. 90, No. 2) at http://www.airforce-magazine.com/MagazineArchive/P ... (www.airforce-magazine.com/MagazineArchive/Pages/2007/February%202007/0207raptor.aspx)
. . . The F-22 has had a busy year, prompted in part by circumstance: Last summer [2006], Langley's runways had to be closed for major repair, obliging all flying units at the base to relocate for two months. The 1st Fighter Wing dispatched its F-22s to multiple locations, where it could demonstrate or confirm new capabilities.
A dozen F-22s, flown by a cadre of handpicked pilots and kept in shape by the 27th's best maintainers, went to Northern Edge [2006], a two-week joint-force wargame in Alaska. Participants included 5,000 troops in Army ground units, Marine Corps ground units, Navy Aegis cruisers and aircraft, and Air Force aircraft ranging from fighters and search and rescue helicopters to E-3 Airborne Warning and Control System aircraft. . . .
. . . To confront the F-22-led "Blue Air" collection, the joint force mustered its best "Red Air" threat--front-line F-15s, F-16s, and Navy F/A-18 Super Hornets. The F-22's team blitzed the opposition with a favorable 241-to-two kill ratio. What's more, the two lost aircraft were F-15Cs, not F-22s. The Raptors came through the engagements untouched.
In Red Flags, Bergeson said, "you have a great day if you lose only 10 percent of your forces." The massively lopsided victory for the stealthy F-22-led force was unprecedented.
"They [the Red Air adversaries] couldn't see us," Tolliver said. This was true even when the opponents were assisted by AWACS. "And that's what makes the F-22 special," Tolliver went on. "I'm out there and I have weapons like an F-15C or an F-16, but ... I'm basically invisible to the other guy's radar." . . .
. . . Although the Air Force would prefer that F-22 pilots destroy their targets at long range, there's no penalty if pilots get close enough to use heat-seeking missiles or guns.
Bergeson said he and a captain, flying F-22s, engaged six F-16s at close range, but it was "no problem." "We have a lot of capability in the close-in regime," noted Smith.
Red Air forces in Northern Edge posed a threat stiffer than what real-world enemies might generate, Tolliver added. "These are some of the best pilots in the world flying the best machines in the world," he said, "so we're fighting a pretty lethal threat out there." . . . - bpolitte, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2"And yes while the American's were trying to break the Sound Barrier, the Avro was tested at mach 2."
Not sure I understand what you are saying here. The Arrow's first flight (according to the page you linked) was in '58. The sound barrier was broken in '47. - HiddenCanuck, on 07/06/2009, -1/+3Double it and add 30 to get the accurate American number.
