http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/09/28/giant_insect/ - mzkply, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22If you zoom out to the 5th-closest zoom setting, the lens flare is gone and you see the circular structure which caused it. It looks like there's a statue in the middle.
- a99tandem, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20There is no lens flare only Zool!!
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Someone said "photoshopped" and adobe send their robot army to kill them.

An interdenominational portal could mean only one thing... The Methodists and Baptists are taking over the world!!!!! - dimplemonkey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11isn't it obvious that it is a reflection of the sun angled at just right trajectory when the photo was shot?
(Knock at my door...)
I SAID "PHOTO SHOT!" I SAID "PHOTO SHOT"! Back away, Adobe Legal, PLEASE!! - skullmac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9You are dead on, my friend. This is a classic example of what happens to a pushbroom-style CCD imaging satellite (such as Digitalglobe's Quickbird, which Google often uses for urban shots) when it encounters a glint of sunlight that happens to reflect directly at the sensor array.
- s33k4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8ITS A TRAP!
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Obviously the result of some sort of magic.
Definitely that, or aliens. - maxtypezero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7yeah but wtf is this crap http://maps.google.com/maps?f=l&hl=en&ie=UTF8&om=1&z=19&ll=52.510495,4.957916&spn=0.000648,0.001751&t=k
- Hensworth, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11The glare from the sun most likely over-saturated the CCD sensors in the satellite which causes that 'tear' in the middle.
- heythisismyname, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Damn, I forgot I left my giant mirror outside.
- kwammi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7GDI's ion cannon?
- Wacer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7It's Barney the Dinosaur exploding.

- mlock2k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6looks like Al sharpton's teeth whitening system at about 7am. But yes i could be wrong.
- zappepcs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6If you look at the shadows of other buildings and their orientation in the photograph, a slanted window as might be found on sun decks etc. would line up just right to flash at the camera
- 13B1303, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Hadoken!!!
- hiscity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Not nearly so strange as the things yu find in China....

- Ratteler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3What day was that taken on? You might have caught the TARDIS leaving?
- nick0909, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I know in my area there are a lot of solar panels on rooftops, and every building that has them has this sort of crazy thing happen when viewed in Google Maps. The two buildings around the track in the map below have solar, the lower building obviously affected the camera way more than the other. Depending on how the light hits everything, it can cause some weird image artifacts.
