I solved it by picking the weakest of the group of bullies and beating the crap out of him. But I don't particularly see it as character building. I think the negative effect on my confidence beforehand was greater than the positive effect of winning the fight.
This isn't a problem that will ever be totally eliminated, so don't worry. But in many cases kids just suffer through it in misery, and neither they nor their parents can do anything about it.
