The regular flu shot targets one type of influenza out of like 5 possible strains. They guess at which strain will be "the flu" for that year and they are hardly ever right. Now they have to put together a strain that counteracts 1human, 2 pig, 1 bird........Im sure they will guess right!

There was an outbreak of flu in the UK in 2000 that killed 22,000 people, that's thousand, this one has killed just 16.
The numbers relating to the necessity for a Global vaccination programme just do not add up. So therefore IMO there's more to this.

- Angostura, on 07/15/2009, -0/+4Sorry, but it *is* a pandemic under the strict definitions that WHO uses. You can read up on the definition - it has to be present in so many continents, spreading at community level in so many countries etc.
Pandemic does not mean it has to be a severe illness, its a measure of spread nothing else. Personally, I think we are lucky that this is a pretty rubbish virus at the moment - it gives the various health systems a chance at running a drill for anything nastier that comes along. - Angostura, on 07/15/2009, -0/+4This one has killed 16. It appears to be mild ... at the moment. It is also spreading extremely quickly in the middle of the summer.
At the moment a lot about this strain is unknown and the fatality rate *could* go up. Given the speed of spread, ordering a heap of vaccine seems like a fair strategy.

a.) A scam to make a lot of money.
b.) A way to inject most of the populous with some sort of chemical to kill most of us.
c.) Used as an excuse to pass really crappy laws.
d.) Used as an excuse to bring about Marshal Law in the US.

I can't, because I don't know where you go that figure from, or to which country it relates. Don't get me wrong, I don't think that H1N1 appears particularly dangerous and I wouldn't be clamouring for a jab. But if the fatality situation changes, stocks are good.
