- Blaze312, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5For some reason it reminds me of the Matrix...
I always thought it was the machines that turned us into batteries.. Apparently it was us all along. - adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4To bad I didn't have one of these last night...after eatting at that bad mexican place (didn't know it was bad when I went) I could have lit up my town for a year...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The Hands for Oil campaign launched by Microsoft this week has shot off to a great start...
- spectre_25gt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Bah, I like the pee powered battery better.
http://www.livescience.com/humanbiology/050816_urine_battery.html - iWorks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2foreign oil... whatever, what I want to see is an iPod powered by this technique! This would still make you deaf, but you'd probably be in a little better shape by having to be active a bit more to continue listening to the diggnation podcast.
- NJank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2more mainstream? There's a reason the article doesn't mention the power generated. It's TINY. like, your iPod won't run, and the circuit load would likely draw more energy from the battery that your trying to recharge than is being generated by the device. Oh, and they only work at resonance, which means you have to move just right constantly with minimal variation to generate even that puny amount of power.
They've been talking about these for years. Not digging something that makes front page because it says "nano" in the description. - ezkiel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2lol. It took me a second to reralize what you were talking about.
- perpetoom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So, the visions about 'perpetum mobile' will come true in next few years.. :)
- p9s50W5k4GUD2c6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ohh, great invention! Like we aren't tired enough as it is after a long days work?
Now a non-glucose based RE-ENERGIZING device - that I would be interested in! - jonconley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Does this mean my friends can't make fun of my EBM dancing anymore?
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This seems like it would be cool, but would it really generate enough energy to power something like an iPod? It may be a good system to use in conjunction with a battery, but I'm skeptical if the power from these things would be able to make all that much energy
- jdavid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what is the advance here, peizo electrics have been around for awhile, no digg.
- betterth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Probably use the nanogenerator to power the device and to charge a small battery, and when movement or power-generation dropped below the requirement, it could draw from the battery for a little while. I doubt they would create a device powered solely by nanogeneration, unless it harvested energy in a way that required no physical exertion.
- iWorks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2body not bowel movement...
- deusdiabolus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now if we can just harness the power of Cheetos dust and recliner butt sweat...
- slappe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Interesting.... For some reason it reminds me of my Seiko kinetic watch... only on a much smaller scale?
- p9s50W5k4GUD2c6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ahhhh. Energon!
- ghelton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I saw something like this 10 years ago in a book of crazy japanese inventions
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0393313697/ - nuhrd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Microsoft... what a bad name for a sponsor.
- Moocat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I read:
"Power of Pee runs a battery"
and then dugg it ;)
j/k, it was an interesting find :) - Bfloeagle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2First thing that popped into my mind... Human batteries...

I'll just buy the disposable AA alkalines, thank you. - qwab, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dude, that's what I've been smelling! Here, have some Glade.
- theWaterboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yes this reminds me of Rolex -- which originally developed the technology. Regardless of who invented it though, it is a viable source of power for most anything that is 'worn' or ungergoes significant movement.
One example, how about a little oscillating generator in a drink-warming pad. Put it in your car, and the movement from bumps and turns would quickly be turned into engergy to produce... heat. :)
How cool! - Yage2006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have a watch that does exactly that gets its power only from movement. Its nice to see this type of device becoming more mainstream that and all the device that have dynamo's instead of batteries
I freaking hate batteries, Expensive, short lifespan and bad for the environment - gailwin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this would really come in handy on the airplane when they don't have those nifty power ports under the seat, or if you're like me, too cheap to buy one of those DC power inverters or air power adapters for the computer.
- hummingbird, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I wonder how this made the front page. What geeks are interested in devices powered by exercise? Reminds me of the solar-powered flashlight.
- whisperedlie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2rofl
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1A biochemical fuel cell is all you need, never needs replacement and will last as long as you do.
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1You've obviously never eatting bad food before....they can be one and the same...
