- kd420, on 04/08/2009, -2/+58Gates > Jobs
- hoppy2626, on 04/08/2009, -0/+29His foundation has already given something like 35 billion dollars worldwide. Amazing work.
But let's not forget the great Steve Jobs. Without him, the mock turtleneck industry would have collapsed. - jptolife, on 04/08/2009, -1/+24Well done Mr. Gates.
- gluon, on 04/08/2009, -0/+21only on the Internet can someone give 1.5 million to children and still read negative comments about it.
- DrHoliday, on 04/08/2009, -0/+18Conducting business to win is not destroying others.
Either you succeed or others do. There's NO shame AT ALL in being better than the competition. - solid12345, on 04/08/2009, -2/+19Meanwhile Steve Jobs gives them a black turtleneck sweater and am empty iPod Touch box.
- mckee123, on 04/08/2009, -1/+14that was a nice thing to do, well done, and I hope he continues to support charitable causes.
- LawScholar, on 06/25/2009, -1/+14I find it astonishing that so many of you find a way to attack a 1.3 million donation. That's more money that 99.9% of you will ever see in your lifetime, and it's a tiny fraction of the billions he has freely given away to other charitable causes.
This is a good thing. He is good for doing it. Quit trying to make it into something bad. - solid12345, on 04/08/2009, -0/+13Anyone with Microsoft on their resume can go work anywhere they want, they don't need charity.
- FredFredrickson, on 04/08/2009, -1/+10Dwelling on the what-if's or could-have-been's of history is a fool's game.
- coldeh, on 04/08/2009, -0/+9If you hate him or not, you have to accept the fact that life would be quite a bit different without him.
- FredFredrickson, on 04/08/2009, -1/+9People are too blinded by this irrational hate of Microsoft (most of them are too young to even know what the whole anti-trust thing was about). Most of the rest don't even understand why they dislike the company - they just saw Apple's ads about how crummy MS is, and jumped on the bandwagon.
- plainOldFool, on 04/08/2009, -1/+9Pneumonia 3.0 is no longer supported. Only Pneumonia XP through Pneumonia 7 are entitled to technical support.
- kingmanic, on 04/08/2009, -0/+8EwMo-AxsToro:
Really, it was just an easy joke about his relative wealth rather than a critique on his generosity. As I pointed out in another post, the man is a good person. He's made a donation that as a percentage of his own wealth few can or will match.
Aren't you two being rather defensives? - FredFredrickson, on 04/08/2009, -1/+8Bill Gates doesn't work for MS anymore... there's no reason to spin his philanthropy as something other than what it is - generous donations.
- solid12345, on 04/08/2009, -0/+7And you think Microsoft hires run-of-the-mill IT guys? Again, experience and connections are everything.
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -3/+10What about someone who had childhood pneumonia but is a healthy adult now? Can I have some money Mr. Gates?
- FutureGuy, on 04/08/2009, -0/+7He is one of the very few billionaires who has put his money and more importantly his time where his mouth is. For someone like him 1.3 million is not a big amount but time, he doesn't have any more of it than anyone else and that’s what makes him truly awesome. I hope there are more like him.
- MrMoonlight, on 04/08/2009, -0/+6Bill's awesome
- hoppy2626, on 04/08/2009, -0/+6He does. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has given something like 35 billion dollars) to charity.
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -1/+7Bill Gates? Ipods?
- FredFredrickson, on 04/08/2009, -0/+6IT people or not - having Microsoft on your resume doesn't hurt.
- AxsToro, on 04/08/2009, -4/+10You do know he has donated billions to multiple non profit organizations. how much have you donated?
- snake1025, on 04/08/2009, -0/+5STFU
- Malteserr, on 04/08/2009, -2/+7Better than nothing.
- Expl0siv0, on 04/08/2009, -0/+5Really? It's usually more like:
"Bill Gates is a cool guy" ... -100 diggs
"I like Windows" ... -200 diggs
"Windows sucks and Bill Gates is evil" ... +100 diggs
"Mac is the best evar!!!" ... +200 diggs
"They both suck! Linux forever!" ... +over9000 diggs - freesf, on 04/08/2009, -1/+6I wish all the Microsoft haters will have the balls to click on the Digg button.
- alexismyhomeboi, on 04/08/2009, -0/+5Microsoft-- Bill Gates: 35 Billion Dollars in Donation.
Walmart-- Walton Family: 5 Packs of Advil. - stix213, on 04/08/2009, -0/+4Nah, Jobs gives them a free iPhone 3G, but locks each kid into a 2 year AT&T contract.
- Soupchicken, on 04/08/2009, -2/+6I could say something like... "Bill Gates is awesome" and probably get dugg up.
But eh... that's to predictable.
Instead, let's share a moment of silence for Lawrence Kutner
...
Thank you. - scoot2006, on 04/08/2009, -1/+5I had pneumonia when I was little. It was horrible.
Thanks BG. - melat0nin, on 04/08/2009, -0/+4Yay for the University of Edinburgh (I'm an alumnus)... we gave Bill an honorary doctorate a couple of years ago. Good work, he is an example to the super-rich.
- FredFredrickson, on 04/08/2009, -2/+6Bill Gates / MS has done no beat down on anyone. Name one thing they have done that personally hurt you. I'd love to hear it.
MS is a successful company, and Bill Gates helped make it that way. He got tons of money in doing that, and now he's giving it away. The good that he is doing with his philanthropy trumps just about any unethical behavior from MS, tenfold.
Just get over it and recognize good for good. - nobelief, on 04/08/2009, -2/+6you are insane
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -5/+8Oh grow up. Take it for what it is.
- makoaditon, on 04/08/2009, -0/+3great
- krahzee, on 04/08/2009, -0/+3"Gates could have hired Lil Wayne for the afternoon and had him sing "I make it rain."
Haven't the kids been through enough already?
Do they really need to be subjected to that 4ft gremlin Looking drug addict singing like he's trying with all his might to take a dump? - FredFredrickson, on 04/08/2009, -1/+4Yeah, because donating a million bucks is easy to do anonymously.
- stephakneex, on 04/08/2009, -0/+3that's wonderful that he is giving
- oninbonin, on 04/08/2009, -0/+3TWO OF MY FRIENDS DIED WHILE BILL GATES WAS GIVING THEM IPODS!!!
- spdaniel91, on 04/08/2009, -0/+3SO your solution is let them ***** off so America can achieve it's "greatness"?
- freesf, on 04/08/2009, -0/+3You are driven by hate, you won't get far on life.
- Macintoshreader, on 04/08/2009, -0/+2Bill Gates rocks; Steve Ballmer sucks.
- coldeh, on 04/08/2009, -1/+3Let me put it like this for you. If you compare the impact Bill Gates has had on our day to day lives with say, someone like you. I would wager that he has had more :)
- stix213, on 04/08/2009, -0/+2It does make the Windows tax feel not quite so bad when you know at least some portion ends up going to a good cause.
How many lives did your OS save today Mac users? - freesf, on 04/08/2009, -1/+3AstralKnight, you are driven by hate, you won't get far on life... you should seek medical help.
- heretrix, on 04/08/2009, -1/+3The dude's given billions already. Cut him some slack.
- freesf, on 04/08/2009, -0/+2You are driven by hate, you won't get far on life.
