    And averaging out ages? That doesn't even make any sense. And besides, we've clearly defined our ages in time after we make our escape from the uterus.

  • anthropodeus, on 04/13/2009, -5/+10so if life "begins" at conception, doesn't that imply that it wasnt begun before that, meaning the sperm and egg were dead? but the sperm and egg were alive the whole time. life never "began" because it never ended in the first place. where you choose to draw the line is arbitrary, but where you draw the line can also be pragmatic. for example, you could say life "starts" when the fetus' nervous system is developed and it is able to feel pain.

    then we get in to this question: what is the difference between a human fetus that can feel pain and an adult cow that can feel pain? but you dont see many anti-abortionists who are vegetarians . . .
  • dygel, on 04/13/2009, -0/+5If you're going by chromosomal age, you need to remember that only half of the child's chromosomes came from the frozen sperm - the egg was fresh. So, you'd have to average it out: the child would only be 10.5 at birth.

A newly created set of human genetics begins at conception. That is inarguable physical fact. The only question is where we decide a potential human is mature enough to be viable.
