- dx74a19, on 08/21/2008, -0/+6Personally I find the idea of united atheism somewhat of a stretch. The cohesive factor of atheism is weak, it's just the lack of belief in the supernatural, which is not enough. A group has to be pro-something, like secular humanism for example.

- johnnick, on 08/21/2008, -0/+4It's similar to Will Roger's statement about political parties, where he said, "I am not a member of any organized political party. I am a Democrat." Atheists have no organizing structure around religion because religion just isn't important as far as we're concerned. We tend to band together to counter specific instances of the influence of religion (e.g. attempts to include ID in science curricula), but, for the most part, we don't care what other people believe as long as they don't try to force it on us.
