- Jackson0909, on 06/12/2009, -0/+13What is this comment even suppose to mean?
- JKount, on 06/12/2009, -1/+13All the pieces for the 2012 Armageddon are coming together now...
- AmnesiacJack, on 06/12/2009, -1/+12Viral for Poltergeist reboot?
- DouglasQ, on 06/12/2009, -2/+12It's called 'football' dude.
Stop abusing my language. (/is English) - forevernomad, on 06/13/2009, -0/+8Yea we often bury our dead under the ground, what the ***** do you do with yours, cover them in fairy lights and hang them from the Christmas tree?
- d3dm, on 06/12/2009, -5/+12"Soccer was invented by European ladies to keep them busy while their husbands did the cooking."
-Hank Hill - idavidtang, on 06/12/2009, -3/+10WHACK! HEAD SHOT!
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 06/13/2009, -2/+8And by "enemies" you mean "the indigenous peoples of wherever the Romans cared to invade."
Sound like mass murderers to me. Nothing glorious about it.
Glorifying this is like glorifying the slaughter of the American Indian. People in history were big, murderous bullies. It's just not something to be proud of. - poidh, on 06/12/2009, -1/+5No it's not.
- scotttech1, on 06/12/2009, -1/+5"The exciting scenario for us possibly is that there were skirmishes with the invading Romans and that's how they ended up chopped up in a pit," he told Reuters.
later quoted as saying....
"because I've always thought it would be cool if Romans chopped people up and put them in a pit as a victory celebration, I mean it's all I've thought about since I was 3 or 4 yrs old, or at least that's what my mom tells me" - sgtbutterscotch, on 06/12/2009, -0/+3Wow those pictures were weird. It looked like the skulls were coming out of the ground like reptiles coming out of an M.C. Escher drawing. Also, did that really have to be two pages?
- crackedlogic, on 06/13/2009, -0/+3Great, now haunted olympics.
- poidh, on 06/12/2009, -5/+8Can't fault the Romans for knowing how to take care of business. No "understanding root causes" or "releasing their enemies back into the community" or "wishing and wishing that their enemies were nice people underneath so that maybe it will come true". They took their enemies and they killed them.
Spoken as an Englishman who is damn glad the Roman's conquered us. We got roads, aqueducts, fine wines and good quality plumbing. - scotttech1, on 06/12/2009, -1/+3Reboot Reboot? Viral... Megabyte? Hexadecimal?
- AraleNorimaki, on 06/12/2009, -0/+2Settle down, Bobby. That's the kind of attitude that drove Mark Gastineau into boxing.
- alecsputnik, on 06/13/2009, -0/+2LOL sir.
- digitalArtform, on 06/12/2009, -1/+3You could probably have that in today's world, too. Just hook up with the Taliban.
- dafragsta, on 06/13/2009, -0/+2That could actually be pretty cool.
- maddskillz, on 06/13/2009, -4/+5If only the romans had invented dentistry
- Vedgie, on 06/13/2009, -1/+2From wikipedia: "Association football, more commonly known as football or soccer."
Now, normal people would shorten that to football, since you kick the ball with your foot. - BrandonJM, on 06/13/2009, -0/+1By Crom!
- judicar, on 06/13/2009, -1/+2You'll notice I addressed the comments to "ladies and gentlemen".
- lead2thehead, on 06/13/2009, -0/+1What did you expect them to do? Dig separate holes?
- poidh, on 06/13/2009, -1/+2http://instantrimshot.com/
- twinklyJesus, on 06/13/2009, -0/+1
wow, thats deep - crackedlogic, on 06/13/2009, -0/+1not sure why you're so butthurt over this... olympic stadium projects regularly go overtime and overbudget at some point.
- Hellahulla, on 06/13/2009, -1/+2Great, so this means more delays in the already over delayed and over budget Olympics project. We should have handed it to the French ... after it was announced we'd got it.
- joshnovak, on 06/13/2009, -0/+1At least Dan Brown is getting some material for his next novel.
- TriTech, on 06/15/2009, -0/+1Got to love the Olympics. Here is a piece of history that may have gone undiscovered otherwise.
- alecsputnik, on 06/13/2009, -1/+2these are some terrible comments.
crap... i just wrote one too. - Lavarock, on 06/13/2009, -0/+1oh don't be a spoilsport, digg them up.
- poidh, on 06/13/2009, -1/+1The Romans conquered the Britons during the age of conquest. The Romans were more advanced than the Britons and the Britons paid for it. Fair enough, I say.
The age of conquest is over now. - passedoutghost, on 06/13/2009, -1/+1Half the time the people wanted to become Roman citizens. That's how the Social Wars started because Rome didn't extend their franchise to the settlements beyond Latium. After that however, yes they did go conquering new territory. But that was the goal of pretty much every empire. You think the Sassanians/Persians didn't do the same? Or the British in later years?
- spidey0vs0venom, on 06/12/2009, -2/+2Wasn't a grave under the olympics site the plot to the last Hellblazer story arc...
- DaMrStu, on 06/13/2009, -0/+0Since when did anyone think that?
- disappointed, on 06/12/2009, -3/+3Oh crap, there go the Olympics. Oh well, we always knew they'd be behind schedule. It's kind of nice that it's due to archaeology rather than the much-expected gross incompetence.
- Baderade, on 06/13/2009, -1/+1Were, are, will be. Ultimately resources run out. Ultimately, people want power for their own ends. What happens when a bunch of intelligent powerful people notice their area of the world has a set amount of resources? They expand. What happens when they notice expanding is easy? They continue. What happens when they encounter resistance in the form of other people? They either attempt to trade, or more effectively, kill and/or enslave. You could claim that is wrong, and we should all work together, but ultimately, if you don't give everyone everything you can, all the time, for your whole life, you are being greedy and selfish. People are greedy and selfish, but there is a degree that people understand working together helps. The problem is, people work together for a common goal. If you don't have a common goal, you don't work together. If your goal is resources, and the resources are with another group that isn't working with you, what do you do? And why stop there, its not as though your resources are infinite.
- Nydendarin, on 06/12/2009, -2/+2I tried to spin this story into a funny quip about how bad the graphic/logo representation for the London Olympics looks, to no avail. :(
- socratesone, on 06/13/2009, -1/+1Kind of a bad omen. I wonder what the people who think the world ends in 2012 are gonna think about this.
- DaMrStu, on 06/13/2009, -0/+0This will probably set the olympics back about 6 months, actualy probably not seeing as it is only a relief road in Weymouth.
- Lavarock, on 06/13/2009, -1/+1Dug.
- DouglasQ, on 06/13/2009, -2/+1You also capitalised 'and' and spelt it wrong.
- inactive, on 06/13/2009, -1/+0Using a hyphen at the beginning of a sentence fragment doesn't make it grammatically correct. Also, I'm sticking with double quotes. In America, we like to stick to our standards, even though they're usually pointlessly different from the rest of the world.
- DouglasQ, on 06/13/2009, -2/+1I think his spelling of '"and"' (triple quotes... your move) was just an honest typo. -but yeah, he shouldn't have started the sentence with the word but that doesn't stop capitalising it being wrong.
(Like how I did the little line thing to make it ok to start a sentence with '"but'"?) - inactive, on 06/13/2009, -2/+0His mistake wasn't capitalizing "and" (double quotes, ***** yeah) it was beginning his sentence with the word,. Likewise it wasn't a spelling mistake, it was failure to use an apostrophe to indicate his use of diction that was his other mistake.
- poidh, on 06/12/2009, -5/+2I would prefer the Romans. They would have fought back against Islam, not spread it.
- iBenx, on 06/13/2009, -4/+1So much for the British being peaceful.
- inactive, on 06/12/2009, -6/+3That is a quote from Life of Brian.
- AraleNorimaki, on 06/12/2009, -3/+0Bobby's our best high kicker. Careful, don't let the Rockettes find out about him.
