Thats the only image i could get off duggmirror - sarusa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Just to be pedantic, if this is really vespa vulgaris then it's a common wasp. But still a frickin' amazing photo.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10its a universal term for photo fakery... like someone posting a dumbass comment doesn't literally mean the comment is an unintelligent wild animal.
- ilovemusic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Thank you!
Totally photoshopped. Somehow I don't think those little tubes are really that "3-D" looking up close. - 5hoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://db1.fotocommunity.de/neu/pic/97/1836897.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.fotocommunity.de/pc/pc/cat/570/display/1836897&h=563&w=829&sz=135&tbnid=hXNjlkURV4b3UM:&tbnh=97&tbnw=143&hl=en&start=19&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dvespa%2Bvulgaris%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26sa%3DG
Sorry for the long link - but here is a real picture I pulled off google images. Almost looks like it's this guy's inspiration. - shafnitz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Are these all real? Some look photoshopped...
- mmichie, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10It sure is annoying how everyone is refering to CGI as "photoshopped".
- nielkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The original image is:
http://www.fotocommunity.de/pc/pc/display/1808209
or at least a larger version of it. - hereisandy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9wasp eat people!?!!?!!!
- Grimdotdotdot, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10No, he's scared of your girlfriend.
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Totally photoshopped. Nice job though, for sure.
I find this quite creepy. I've got a bit of a phobia of anything that tries to eat me, particularly wasps. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I have not posted on this thread. Why are you not only stalking and harassing me but bringing off topic attacks on beliefs into a thread on photography.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Nice photoshop job.
- yongfook, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5the whole HEAD is photoshopped.
- drigz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I agree - while the outsides look very cool, the face of the wasp (the only image I saw) looks like a drawing or something... just doesn't seem real to me at all.
- segosa, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9You're scared of your girlfriend? :o
- wax0r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Working mirror of the main image:
http://www.plunder.com/Vespa-Vulgaris-Pixolator-download-2977.htm - coverlim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4that link is down, but this one is another cool bee: http://www.everystockphoto.com/photo.php?photo_id=8245
- datter, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Photoshopped. Excellently photoshopped, but photoshopped.
- wtfunkymonkey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+51) Fakes
2) Inaccurate
3) Lame
4) Server down - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Photoshopped and scary.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4...the whole thing is photoshopped.
- DarkDays, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4They probably mean "Photoshopped" as in "edited by digital softwares/photo manipulated"
First few (from where the link starts) are obviously edited but the rest are amazing photos. I hate insects but these are just so artistically attractive. - jessecrouch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5uh.. this isn't even very well done.
- mattwho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Can those possibly be real? There is one of a spider with saliva dripping from his mandable!
- rolandog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Not a single mention of what the hell some honey is doing on a leaf? Might be the same analogy as poop on a stick.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honey - Dayz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2dam someone has some sweet photoshop skills. if those are real i need to change my pants
- sTiVo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Here's something similar, but less "mechanical". The posted pic looks right out of WWII.
http://img-x.fotocommunity.com/97/1836897.jpg - reject, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4That's pretty ridiculous to bring religion into this thread. No one cares if you're a Christian, a Buddhist, or a flowerbunny, and no one cares for your horrible impersonation of another's beliefs. Go learn to respect others.
- figvam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"Amazing" in the title - reported as lame.
- ilovemusic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Digg effect =(
Anyone have a mirror? - Dog_Paddle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great. Now I'm paranoid that spiders are everywhere.
- triforcer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the first few are CG, but after that it seems to be real insect images.
- HELLRaZerX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can someone link to mirror please?
- Dog_Paddle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is so amazingly cool. I love pictures like this.
- Nitsugua, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yes, obviously fake.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the wasp looks strangely mechanical. I can digg it.
- uptown, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Ever heard of Softimage3D or Softimage|XSI? It's most definitely a package.
- kaidovak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1judging by the use of the word "pixolator" in the filename i'm assuming zbrush was involved in the creation (site's down so i can't see to confirm)
after seeing the mirrored image: definitely zbrush - uptown, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It's not just Photoshop ... it's done using a 3D package like Softimage or Maya or 3DStudio ....probably with some post done in Photoshop.
- ronk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This was rendered in some 3d package like 3dstudio or Maya etc. and using ray tracing.. the eyes just don't look real.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Seriously, WTF is coming out of its face?!?! Looks like something from ILM. Gotta be photoshopped - the lighting looks way different on those tongue things and its face than on the rest of the body.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe it's tree sap?
- uptown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"And you know this was done in 3d how?"
I don't know for a fact that it was done in a 3D package, but it makes the most sense. If you check out the rest of the album, you'll see that the guy has done a bunch of non-photorealistic 3D stuff. It's still amazing work ...
As for whether it's real or fake, you can tell it's not real based on the lighting and some of the textures, and specular lighting on some of the textures. It's a little off from what you get in the real world. - mzkw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The anatomy is wrong
- warmonger48, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Someone probably put honey on the leaf and waited for a wasp to start eating it to get the picture. Those crazy humans.
- as2003, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yup. That looks like the original source. Everything in the right place.
- tether, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's a term for photo fakery, not complete image construction from scratch, which this might be.
- arunforce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That is not Photoshopped.
Have any of you guys EVER taken the time to watch PBS? - kneeare, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2ordinary is not amazing
