The only concern I'd have is that requiring insurance coverage created a statistical bias in the study to wealthier, white couples. When it comes to the "octomoms" of the world sucking at the government teat and living off welfare, using what little money they have for IVF and gross cosmetic procedures, I am not. These people should not receive free fertility treatments that I pay for as a taxpayer, nor should they receive free cell phones, as I just learned on the Dave Ramsey show. People on welfare receive free cell phones from the government!
- JohnnySoftware, on 07/24/2009, -0/+1That thing about the free cell phones seemed odd at first. Then I remembered that pay phones are fast disappearing. So in the past, if someone had a medical emergency or saw/suffered a criminal attack, they could run to a pay phone and summon help. They cannot do that in many placed where they once could.

- D3pth0, on 07/06/2009, -0/+0When I look at my 18 month old son who is a result of these treatments, I am glad they exist. It is very painful to try for years with no luck and find out there is a physical wall preventing it from ever happening. It cost over $15,000 out of pocket to have the chance to have a child from my own flesh and blood. It was worth every last penny.

If you save $9K on average that is pretty great if the overall cost is $15K, not as amazing if the average cost is $45K per couple. My guess is the overall cost per couple is quite high if it takes 8 months on average to get pregnant...multiple IVF attempts = big money.
