- TokenUser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"So I guess now "Octopuses" is correct grammar? I'm not always correct in my grammar but I'm pretty sure the correct term is something like "Octopi."
... from: http://www.askoxford.com/asktheexperts/faq/aboutgrammar/plurals
"Although it is often supposed that octopi is the 'correct' plural of octopus, and it has been in use for longer than the usual Anglicized plural octopuses, it in fact originates as an error. Octopus is not a simple Latin word of the second declension, but a Latinized form of the Greek word oktopous, and its 'correct' plural would logically be octopodes." - 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So I guess now "Octopuses" is correct grammar? I'm not always correct in my grammar but I'm pretty sure the correct term is something like "Octopi."

Sorry...I just had to say it. - skippy2057, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2OMGLINUXWOAH
You are one CRANKY marine biologist - and your original statement truthfully did not make much sense.
May I suggest you switch to decaf? - hendoz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can't get the vid, too much traffic?
- cruelpupet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Saying that they are more intelligent then you think is an understatment. A friend who is big into salt water tanks has some amzing stories about Octopi climbing out of their tank and goign a few feet to another tank where their live food is kept...feasting...and then goign back to their tank. And yes these are tanks with tops.
- me.Crazy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Amazing discovery! Really a surprise that nobody knew about this before :o
If Spielberg sees this post he'll go like "Dang! I wish I knew this before I came up with Jaws!" :D - shagybones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If anyone has problems watching it, I just rightclicked on the page...went to page info-Media and downloaded the embedded video. It works fine streaming that way on media player classic
- CowboyX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1re: Octopuses are remarkable creatures, and are much more intelligent than you may think.
ex-NASA dude Steven Baxter wrote a great sci-fi book called Manifold:Space, about a private-sector astronaut who sends genetically enhances octopuses into the asteroid belt - LordHalo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dang, the OCTOPUSSY can make a firm grip like that and eats you alive. Cool *****.
- beltandpants, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is that a flange effect... phase shifter? Oh wait no... it's Realmedia. Why, OH GOD, WHY is this codec still in use. Someone kill me.
- Web_Weasel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is why the sharks need fricken lasers on their heads.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2octopuses rule, sharks can suck it
- x_out, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Normally i wouldn't have installed Real either. But i went against my better judgment and the newest version actually isn't TOO bad. just have to lobotomize the preferences so it doesn't COMPLETELY take over windows. oh and i guess the vid was cool too. ;)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I always thought it was octopods.
Anyway Octopods, are in reality quite stupid. They are simply more aggressive than anyone realizes. There have been numerous accounts of Octopods acting the face masks of divers that stray to close to their homes. Not out of any rudimentary knowledge of a divers breathing appartus, simply because they go for the face, as that is where their beak lies.
Sharks are awesome though, its to bad the media goes to great length to villify these awesome creatures. - Gavin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0THIS IS ALSOME!
- PacoBell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0RealAlternative + FF 1.0.6 works fine for me. Dunno what all of you are whining about o_O
- ndm007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0so....what happened to that octopus??
was it put down like a bad dog - sahm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0:) cool.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah..happened in Seattle Aquarium..Crazy..
Here is a link to the You Tube Blog for it..
http://blog.ritikasanghi.com/2007/01/octopus-eats-shark.html#links - spartan777, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0realplayer sucks sooooo bad. i installed it just for this, watched it. i told it not to associate with anything but real formats, so it decides to associate with everything. i will never trust real again. i uninstalled it too, and there a ton of crap in win32, program files, AND common files that can't be gotten rid of. i hate real. you suck the big one. good video though.
- koach, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Bah! Digg is for cool ***** that geeks like. This is some cool *****! That shark got OWNED!
- Crashmaster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Ewww real player...no thanks.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0LMAO!!
- Vill4no, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pwnage!!! I've seen videos of octopi navigating through mazes and opening jars, but I've never seen one take on a shark. Good digg!
- Special_K, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Holy Crap! - Pretty Cool
- mtoigo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Someone has got to bust out the eternal mongoose vs. cobra.
- 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's cool tokenuser. Nicely done! I'll be sure to remember that for future use.
- Dietrich, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Where's the "Link expects you to have spyware installed" problem in the dropdown?
- Albertpacino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@bonbonlebon
http://digg.com/software/Real_alternative,_no_more_Real_Player_Yay_
+digg for you ;P - ZMerlin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Frickin' hell... Why can't RealPlayer just buffer the entire frickin' thing then play it? Why, instead, must it stop every five seconds then buffer again for 20 seconds?
Look, RealPlayer, I'm happy to wait for a minute or two for you buffer the entire video, ok? I don't mind you putting it all in my cache or something. I'll go and do something else while it loads. I can handle that, I can deal with that. If I got a choice between epilepsy and a punched-in LCD screen and a reasonable wait for the entire thing to buffer, what do you think I'm going to choose? - samoscratch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0why the f do people use real player! ach!!
- hax0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm not going to download real player and the real codec alternative isn't working for me, does anybody have another download link location of the file?
- squink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WOW
- pillfred, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0good stuff i saw the special a while back they also showed one of those big bastards squeeze through a hole the size of a quarter. Pretty wierd nice vid.
- treofan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0In a way, that really shouldn't have surprised them. Consider that, while nobody has ever seen one alive, scientists know that giant squid attack whales by evidence found on carcasses, and scars on live whales. So, really, why is this situation significantly different?
The only dangerous end of a shark is its mouth. Stay away from that and be able to control its movements, as an octopus that size is well able to do, and taking out a shark isn't all that hard.
Food is food. - cool8man, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Next time there's a string of shark attacks we should dump a whole bunch of octopodes in the water and teach those bitches who's boss.
- andrewcool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That was cool... They need to fix the food chain now :P
- soulshine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Both of them should be mounted in one of these...

(...with lasers.) - datisit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wowo that was well cool i never seen anything like that before
- Frungi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Being a know-it-all marine biologist doesn't entitle you to be an ass.
- Edgen22, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Got to love the marine biologist that spends his time bad mouthing random strangers on the internet.
Video was awesome, I installed Real Player just for this. It played fine for me. - bndocksnt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i watched the video, had to open real player though, because the firefox plugin from them is the worst garbage ever... cool ass video though. anyway, now i'm pissed, because i always went with octopi, and now there's octopode, and a string of people dropping the "e" off that in favor of octopod. well, what is it? i think i'm having a nervous breakdown ::eyes rolling into back of head::
- Carbito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That is great!
- Albertpacino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hahhahaha
- jgpmom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I found a bunch of shark teeth on the beach last month,,,maybe an octopus sqeezed the teeth right out of him....oh the things we think we knew that we don't know at all,,,makes ya think about thoughts.
- celerityfm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Shocking! I guess this t-shirt is even more relevant now: http://store.muledesign.com/detail/squid_w.html
- adamS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0That's amazing! I had no idea they were that strong.
