- outsidethinkbox, on 03/26/2008, -2/+9How about a "Leave me the hell alone" type deal?
- doctechnical, on 03/26/2008, -1/+5I think a good counter-nudge might be "Mind your own business you busy-body hippy!"
Or perhaps a simple "I'll think about what you said the next time I'm cleaning my guns." - johnnysaucepn, on 03/26/2008, -0/+3Nah, our existence is a constant struggle against the Earth. The Earth wants us to drown, freeze, dehydrate, starve, fall from great heights, get boiled in lava or buried under rocks.
Our survival is dependent on making sure the Earth doesn't kill us first - it's only now that we've developed enough to get our own back, and now the Earth is deploying a climate change weapon to kill us all off.
It's an arms race! - aladrin, on 03/26/2008, -0/+2Buried for "choice architects."
- fhernand, on 03/26/2008, -3/+5nudge it up your hiney
- shaelen, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1That only applies to planets that believe they were created by a God.
- shaelen, on 03/26/2008, -1/+2I meant to say "another more intelligent species will evolve in our place."
- waynetheman, on 03/26/2008, -1/+2First actual paragraph:
"In my Findings column I discuss some ideas for gently prodding people to conserve energy. I’d like to hear your ideas, particularly if you have any suggestions for a little device that would give a real-time glowing display of your carbon footprint. I threw out a few names for it like the Green Lantern, the Eglow, the ENudge, the Nudgie. Do you have a better name, or a better nudge of kind? The best suggestion will be rewarded with a copy of “Nudge: Improving Decisions About Health, Wealth, and Happiness,” by Richard H. Thaler and Cass Sunstein of the University of Chicago."
Please. - FLarsen, on 03/27/2008, -0/+1Not everyone is like that.
We're not more important that other animals, but we're not less important either. There is no reason why we should die and get replaced by some other species (especially if it not yet exists). What we should do is live in harmony with other life forms, as in leave them alone, not die.
You should think of people as individuals, and judge them on who they are, not who they're with. We should sort our problems out, but that does not mean that we should die.
Death (suicide) is a permanent solution to a temporary problem, and all problems that can be fixed are temporary. - outsidethinkbox, on 03/26/2008, -2/+3Oh, and read coercion in the dictionary.
- outsidethinkbox, on 03/26/2008, -1/+2If it committed suicide, it would go to Planet Hell. This is a no-no. It created humans so that it can use the "I got infected" excuse and get into Planet Heaven.
- RickyBarnes1960, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1There are encyclopedic volumes describing the positive ways to influence human behavior and, unfortunately, encyclopedic volumes describing the negatives ways as well. Perhaps we could dispose of the second set and focus more on the first. When you've done your job well and made the right case for a change in their behavior, I believe the bulk of the species is more than happy to do so. When you shortchange the presentation and head to soon for the stick to beat them into submission, that is when you've triggered their instinct to flee or to resist in kind. It's an old story and yet one that gets ignored over and over again. Polite nudges will work if you trust that people generally wish to do the right thing - when they understand what the right thing is. A shove can expect only one response - the shove back. "Tit for tat" is the predominant theme running throughout human history and the predominant theme today. It is long overdue we switch to more positive and productive tactics. The world as a whole has become increasingly angry since the events of September 11th. Shove after shove after shove after shove. Are you happier now?
- ezkash, on 04/04/2008, -0/+1Nudge nudge. http://clansion.info
- shaelen, on 03/27/2008, -0/+1What's so special about humans? We are continually at war with each other, enslave other humans and animals, disregard the value of all life on this planet and do far more harm to it than any other creature alive. Humans aren't any more important than any other living thing on Earth, and in fact do more harm, so why would anyone hope the humans will live?
- doctechnical, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1May your wish be granted, and you be endlessly kicked in the nuts forevermore.
- jimmies, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1I don't want or need people making decisions for me. Especially those ***** in HR.
LULZ! - FLarsen, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1Why does anyone hope the humans will die?
Are you suicidal, or do you just want everyone else to die? - steeeeve, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1Government is a group of people and therefore affected by all the flawed ways of decision making, that affect people. So the decision, that people are to be "nudged" towards has the same chance to be flawed as their own.
- shaelen, on 03/26/2008, -2/+2I didn't read the whole effin' article, but it looks like it's all about conserving energy.
Well, I've been wondering for a long time why the Earth created people through the process of evolution.. And my only conclusion is that the Earth hates itself and wants to die by suicide.
So I believe it is this planet's right to kill itself off however it pleases, even if that means creating creatures like human beings. Though, hopefully, only mostly humans will die and another species will evolve in our place. - shaelen, on 03/26/2008, -1/+1Since the events of September 11th? HahahAHAHAHahaha.
Absurd.
September 11th only had an effect on those who were weak enough to let it have an effect upon. It only means what people want it to mean. - makkaveli19, on 03/26/2008, -1/+1nothing beats a good kick in the nuts. at least i enjoy it.
- PeppermintPig, on 03/26/2008, -2/+2It does take time for some individuals to take notice and do that which is in their best interest. That said, it is not appropriate to use force to make others conform to your way of thinking. Even then, what is in one person's best interests is not always the same for someone else. If you believe your ideas are best, exercise your powers of persuasion and try your best.
Some people, unfortunately, make the effort to determine ideal solutions, but then expect others to carry the burden to fulfill their ideals. This can lead to a certain degree of apathy, such as when people vote for changes which they expect the government to carry out. - synack, on 03/26/2008, -3/+2Don't be a nudge!
- FloorModel, on 03/26/2008, -1/+0people usually react when the lights go off or someone slaps them in the head. Some hamsters just need a good kick to get moving.
- Shadowgamers, on 03/26/2008, -2/+0More like a push with a hydro-pressure cannon V:
- Celeron, on 03/26/2008, -5/+2The answer is it's a shove.
