- schestowitz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Combined with their recent work on 3-D design for transistors, computing capacity has a lot in store. Mr. Moore probably found his smile again.
- hockyfight, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8This news struck me as pretty trippy considering the recent Digg article "The Last Question" by Isaac Asimov mentions something similar.. Read On
"In his father's youth, the only computers had been tremendous machines taking up a hundred square miles of land. There was only one to a planet. Planetary ACs they were called. Then all at once, refinement. In place of transistors, had come MOLECULAR VALVES so that even the largest PC could be put into a space only half the volume of a spaceship.
Keep in mind, Asimov died in 1992. - curios, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4It's not a problem that's 'too bad', it's a challenge.
- kevinmotel, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Frink: Well, sure, the Frinkiac-7 looks impressive, don't touch it! But I predict that within 100 years computers will be twice as powerful, 10,000 times larger, and so expensive that only the five richest kings of Europe will own them.
- Taikun, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or just don't know what kelvin is. 5000 Kelvin is about 8540 degrees Fahrenheit. 5 Kelvin is -451.
- AnteChronos, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Too bad this requires temperatures of approximately 5 Kelvin. They have shape-changing molecular switches that work at room temperature, but they're much more difficult to chain together. Still, it's only a matter of time before molecular computing becomes common. Next step, quantum computing! After that, who knows?
- geminitojanus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I think you thought he said 5k Kelvin, which would be close to the operational temp of the 360 (5K plus or minus 1K Kelvins).
- Tiak, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It is more unfortunate then he would've pleased that it can't currently be used in practical applications.
- specialK16, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1What?
- DeskFlyer, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3Can this be installed in women?
- cfazzini, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3Ipod Invisa!
- Dokument, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2dont xbox 360's run about that temp anyway?
- kingfoot, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1with such a... WHAT!?
tell me man, i must know! - fezzasus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0This is not a new type of switch, there are plenty of static meolcular switches available already.
