- Macgyrl64, on 12/12/2008, -0/+19The entire Mediterranean and North African Countries are filled with Archealogical wonders. If only the governements would allow scholars & scientists to excavate to learn more of history. Most often these areas are plowed over to make way for new housing or left to crumble and whither away. Regardless of it's religious attachment or not, monies should be allocated to these projects even to just help us all learn more of our past and future.
- Heracles, on 12/12/2008, -0/+15Buried for creating eight pages with skimpy information that could easily fit on a single page.
- Mujokan, on 12/12/2008, -5/+19It's amazing how it was written by actual people who lived in a certain place at a certain time.
- RobotBuddha, on 12/12/2008, -2/+16You've got to be kidding me. First, no *****, almost all fiction has real places and events in it. Second, "time and time again"? If you're holding up the bible to need verification by archeology you're in a whole lot of trouble for what's conspicuously absent than present.
- EarlOfLade, on 12/12/2008, -8/+20Are you serious?
That is like saying that because the Harry Potter books contains references to London, Harry Potter and his magic must be real.
Go and learn some science before you spew this crap! - Ouchimoo, on 12/12/2008, -3/+15Yeah, sure, until science showed up.
- BrettFromTibet, on 12/12/2008, -5/+17fascinating!
- talonstriker, on 12/12/2008, -0/+11actually they are. A year ago, I took a "classical objects" history class and the prof. showed us a (full) digitized version of the DSS. Unfortunately I do not remember to the source, but it belongs to some Israeli museum or university.
- duewydo, on 12/12/2008, -3/+14I wonder why the Dead Sea Scrolls have never been digitized and made publically available... Google could do it :-D
- MisterEX, on 12/12/2008, -6/+16If you look at the bible as a completely false document, you would be completely false.
- MeatMountain, on 12/12/2008, -0/+9These archeological findings have %100 proven that the bible is old, you guys sure showed us.
- Turambar, on 12/12/2008, -9/+18Don't need to spin anything. Did they dig up god?
- Mujokan, on 12/12/2008, -2/+10Weak
- tim620, on 12/12/2008, -4/+11It is interesting that the remnants of the Roman Empire (e.g. Europeans and their decedents, including leadership in the USA) have established the country of Israel so that the remnants of the Jews can have their own nation again, after being driven out by the Romans (and the Babylonians and Assyrians, etc) almost 2000 years ago.
- Ouchimoo, on 12/12/2008, -1/+8...and that other parts were there before the bible was written.
- mc88, on 12/12/2008, -1/+7You really want to get into the pitfalls of imperial expansion? The Jews got *****, the Indians got *****, the Mexicans got *****, Irish Republicans got *****, the people of Darfur are currently being *****, and the list goes on and on.
You can put a dress on a pig, but it's still a pig in a dress. I think millions of people would quibble about your definition of "geopolitical" progress, and whether or not it's a positive thing. - foopirata, on 12/12/2008, -5/+11georgemason: extensive genetic research seems to disagree with your position.
- mc88, on 12/12/2008, -6/+11Understandable, but what we don't have is the Palestinians claiming to be those Jews that were driven out of Jerusalem by the Romans.
- rectagon, on 12/12/2008, -14/+19You'll be dugg down for this... undoubtedly... even though you are spot on. Time and time again the historical details of the bible are proven correct by archaeology. Time and time again digg users try to debunk it.
- RobotBuddha, on 12/12/2008, -1/+6What do you expect them to do, come on to debate whether hebrew evolved from another language? Or that the dead sea scrolls don't exist? I'm getting the impression that a lot of people posting haven't actually read the article. Not that I can blame them given the slideshow format.
- achacha, on 12/12/2008, -5/+10There is some truth to fairy tales, mostly related to locations. It's the actions that are exaggerated and fabricated. Moses got around the red sea then had his followers (hallucinating from being in the deserts for days) remember it and document it as if he parted the the red sea is all speculation. We do know the red sea exists, what he did with it we will never know. And since no one else has ever done it (once better documentation/records and science came around), I suspect it's all a fairy tale and no red sea was ever parted (a broken telephone game of epic proportions). (This can be applied to most of the stories in the bible).
- UnderscoreMan, on 12/12/2008, -6/+11So we should revert to 70BC geopolitical borders?
Sadly land 'ownership' changes.
Why woudn't we give back the USA to the natives?
They were here before. - palidine40, on 12/12/2008, -1/+5So youre willing to take evidence from their carbon dating when it proves the bible to be true, but as soon as something dates to 10,000 (or more) "BC" you'll flip out and cry about how science is a terrible lie (NIN reference).
However if you're a somewhat more intelligent person who doesn't take the bible literally, then your saying it was literally true in this case but not others, aka "picking and chosing" whats right in an "infallible" document written by iron agers.
Last of all, youre willing to listen to the unbiased evidence by admitted jewish archeologists but not the biased evidence of people who take no affiliation and who look at the whole picture.
Bravo, encore, encore, encore (please keep giving encores until your genes are removed from our pool by way of suffocation or hyperventilation). - AQMessiah, on 12/12/2008, -2/+6As an archaeologist, you can assume there is a correlation but back in reality...where I live, archaeology disproves your magical beliefs. I'm actually quite offended that you're so willing to accept these as "biblical proof" but aren't willing to accept the other 99% of sites out there that disprove religion.

- mc88, on 12/12/2008, -0/+4Are you going to be so cavalier about geopolitical borders changing if China decides to call in all our markers?
- ConanCimmerian, on 12/12/2008, -1/+5HHAHhahahahaha oh man, good one tomjun, a fine troll indeed, 10/10
- inactive, on 12/12/2008, -0/+4If the Jewish people are such important figures in society nowadays, I wonder why they would keep researchers and scientists at bay...Not saying there's anything to hide (could be?) but my dad is Jewish and I would love to hear where they used live, and I'm pretty sure everyone else would too.
- Gerbil_Juice, on 12/12/2008, -3/+7All he said was that the bible isn't entirely false. He's not saying it's entirely true.
- MisterEX, on 12/12/2008, -4/+7No, I never said that.
- GiggleStick, on 12/12/2008, -1/+4@UnderscoreMan (shouldn't there be a _ in there somewhere)
That's what the Israelis are telling the "Palestinians" that used to be Jordanian & Egyptian citizens. Sorry folks, land 'ownership' has changed. - Morghin, on 12/12/2008, -5/+8Multiple page article annoyance fail. Why do they keep annoying us with that *****? Buried >:|
- octo, on 12/12/2008, -3/+6".....the Holy Land can still produce ancient treasures, thousands of years after the events described in the Bible...."
This article does not belong in the Science section due to its religious bias, and just provides fodder for the fundies. The contents of the bible are "Myths".
Should be in Entertainment, or Arts & Culture. - QuestVR, on 12/13/2008, -0/+2The new Indy should have revolved around one of these, not aliens. :(
- smokesteam, on 12/15/2008, -0/+2Except for the fact that for observant Jews and Muslims, interfaith marriage is forbidden.
- skintigh, on 12/12/2008, -5/+7Right, because only one bush has ever burned in all of human history. There is simply no other source of ash.
- georgemason01, on 12/12/2008, -8/+10I only half agree with you here. Israel does indeed have a long history, but there's no way to prove that the founders and residents of the 1948 Israel have any ancestral connection the Israeli citizens of 2000 years ago.
- known, on 12/13/2008, -0/+2World governments must pro-actively give permanent incentives (for e.g. free health care, govt jobs, free public transportation etc ) for inter-faith and inter-caste marriages between Jewish, Hindu, Christian, and Muslims.
This will prevent terrorism in the World. - palidine40, on 12/12/2008, -1/+3ZING!!
- MisterEX, on 12/12/2008, -1/+3He rose from the dead and apparently he had to kill him again.
- AQMessiah, on 12/12/2008, -3/+5Ancient Greek writers wrote of Herakles, Atlas, Medusa, Perikles, Ajax, Odysseus etc.
-We found the ancient city of Troy, great so according to your logic everything Homer wrote was true...right?
-The Olympian gods intervened and brought Troy down with the help of Achilles.
-Or Atlas, the man who was supposedly carrying the world on his back, was turned to stone after Perseus showed him the head of Medusa. So the Atlas mountains are still there, the story must be true!
Your logic makes absolutely none. These stories are stylized exactly as the ancient Greeks, they started with one myth and continued building until this parallel reality formed and created the Olympian/Christian religions, sometimes incorporating their surroundings, often excluding them and using magical scenarios that don't exist.
In all reality, I wish you people would grow the ***** up. The bible is a story book for children. You live in a fantasy world that does not, will never and can't exist.
A little more logic and a little less faith in something that doesn't exist would solve a lot more problems than doing nothing and praying every night. - sigg14, on 12/13/2008, -0/+2wow they found some old man-made items. where do I sign up for church?
- lflorio, on 12/12/2008, -3/+5....yet
- rkor123, on 12/12/2008, -2/+3amen, achi
- Buzzbean, on 12/12/2008, -2/+3Did I say believed everything in the bible? No. Did I say I believed God created the world in 7 days six thousand years ago? No. Did I say that when you die you go to heaven with the ever loving Jesus? No. What I said is that archeaology has proven many historical facts from the bible.
I have read a great many secular sources of history and I am not religious. I enjoy looking at myths, legends and religious books (of many different religions) and look for the source. I am saying that many of the myths have a historical basis.
Grow up and open your mind a bit. You might learn something. - FTAFILESn3, on 03/02/2009, -0/+1Thanks for this useful info.

Sad and full of failed reasoning. Dugg down. RTFA and see that any claims of faith there are clearly qualified. Most of the article refers to artifacts in the context of known history. -
