- BritOverseas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8>Did you guys even watch the video, this thing just barely gets him off the ground. Even when it does get >him off the ground he has no control where he flies, he just dangles from the rope he is attached to. No >Digg
Did you just get out of bed or something? Did you even read the article?
The guy made a device that can lift him off the ground, "A la jetpack", without ANY outside help. Also, he invented a pretty neat peroxide purifying machine, which he is trying to patent and sell (Digg just for that), and, flying "A la Jetpack", no matter "how high" has only ever been achieved by about 12 people in the world and most of those with major corporations' help. You think he cares if you Digg him or not?
Could you do it?
(crickets).
I thought not. - olie_baba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"Wow, a rich Mexican!"
Wow, an ignorant American! - bigboy101011, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This week "Man builds jetpack", next week "jet pack related accidents #3 cause of deaths among nerds"
- DDarkfire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Anybody notice that the 5th comment was already racist? And then almost 25% are? Focus on the achievement, people, not on the nationality of the person. No wonder nobody in the world likes America.
- mckinnej, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Digg because he crushes a stereotype.
Signed - a redneck that actually likes brown folks - kryptogrowl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2His website is http://www.tecaeromex.com
- BritOverseas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It is real, this dude built his own peroxide making machine (he sells it on the side to finance his "hobby").
Brave man really, clever too..
every boys dream to have a "Rocket Pack" - agimat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1dugg because hes braver than i am. i'd never get past "strap myself to the death gadget then push the red button".
- Wamzlee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Reminds me of Arrested Development...
- CadMasterAdam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1GOOD JOB DUDE
- sp1nm0nkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This guy is officially my hero.
And yeah, Mythbusters didn't build a jet pack. It wasn't a pack of any sort. It was a rotax 503 connected to two propellers designed for a hovercraft, all on a thin piece of aluminum. Crap design.
This is a hydrogen peroxide rocket, which has a LOT more power to weight.
I'm gonna have to at least attempt this some day, it looks like a lot of fun. - merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I saw the guys on Myth Busters try this on Sunday. Even they couldn't get it to work right, so I don't think this guy did."
Remember, mythbusters is not scientific. Trying something, failing, and then concluding "I tried it and failed, so no one can do it!" is not a logically, or scientifically valid statement. The vast majority of the time, the mythbusters never actually disprove anything, they simply (1) experiment, to gain a better understanding of the factors involved in a given myth, and (2) conjecture, based on their results, as to the likelyhood of a given myth being valid.
Long story short, when they say "MYTH BUSTED", they're almost always saying "This story is extremely unlikely", not "The very laws of physics make the situation laid out in this story impossible".
Keep in mind, they've had more than one retraction/revisitation (walking versus running in the rain, Archimedes death ray...) - Ryetronics, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cool find.
But, way too, many, friggin commas, in the, head, lin,e. : ) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1welcome to the mindset of mexicans.. all they do is think so highlty of their ***** country... mexicans have done *****.. they hate asian yet they are leaps and bounds over any south american piece of *****.. always thrwoing there flags around and speaking spanish to non-mexicans to prove a point.. i truly hate u fags if u like mexico so bad then go back bitch.. we dont wna tto hear ur mariachi ***** or hear ur language everywhere ***** this is america... by the way stop bragin about mexican culture it sucks and serves no purpose
everyone is amaze that a mexican made it is because mexicans are seen as natural dumbasses who drink alcohal have babies and wear sombraros - neop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Most of you people should first learn to read. What this guy did is no small accomplishment. He did not only build his own rocket pack but he also built an extremely efficient machine to distill hydrogen peroxide. Next time read the article before you comment.
- KriLL3.2™, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's not a jetpack, it's a rocketpack... I dont see any jet engines, do you?
- carloslmz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1viva méxico!!!!!!!
- Salmonax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"But, way too, many, friggin commas, in the, head, lin,e. : )"
Good point. It didn't need any! :-P - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Like merreborn said about Myth Busters. It's far from a scientific show. You can't conclude that because the cast of Myth Busters can't do it, something isn't possible. By the same logic, you could conclude it's not possible for Michael Jordan to dunk from the freethrow line because Adam can't do it.
- moiety, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That was, a really interesting, read.
- RadiatedAnt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would lick my finger and test the wind then extend both arms foward via Superman's style and hit the GO button :D
- hordak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0First AMD, now rocket packs! We mexicans are taking over the world, one step at a time! :) hahaha
- system900, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is the cool hand salute mandatory prior to lift off?
- x3n1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is there a position up beta testing? If so then go ahead and hand me that spinfusor...
Woohoo! - Rell812, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm sure THIS will turn out well....
- lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0anyone ever play pilotwings? now that takes me back...
- Guano, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The Mythbusters episode was about a JET pack as apposed to what this guy made, and ROCKET pack. And these things do work, military projects have shown.
- themachina, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can only say this:
Bad Idea Jeans.
(If you don't get the SNL reference: http://snltranscripts.jt.org/90/90abadidea.phtml) - sooperdooper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Is the cool hand salute mandatory prior to lift off?"
Let me look it up on Wikipedia...
"The 'cool hand salute' has been used since man powered flight was first attempted. An oil painting by Caravaggio shows Icarus saluting Daedalus before their escape from King Minos' labyrinth. The pre-flight gesture was first institutionalized by the United States Air Force..." - akinder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I saw the guys on Myth Busters try this on Sunday. Even they couldn't get it to work right, so I don't think this guy did."
Watch the video then, you'll be pleasantly surprised :) - gyrfalcon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Did you guys even watch the video, this thing just barely gets him off the ground."
That video was of his first flight you prick... Go play in traffic or something. - aaplmacguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Remember when the Discovery Channel showed episodes of Wings just about as often as TNT shows Law and Order? They had an episode that showed a guy flying around with a jet pack. It was actually a splice together since the thing would only work for 20-30 seconds at a time but it was a really cool video even though it was a fake. These things really exist and work well if you don't want to go very far. I'm impressed that someone could build one of these things themselves.
P. S. Hey, sweetsgreen, do you remember the IBM commericals that Avery Brooks did? One of them started out, “It is the year 2000, but where are the flying cars? I was promised flying cars. I don’t see any flying cars. Why? Why? Why?” - chetchez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Si, Fly
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0jeetttpppacccckkkkkkk........i dont think so look he's hanging from the cable in the first!!!
- dankers, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2This guy is the Mexican McGyver!!
All he needs is a tortilla, hot sauce and a couple chicklets to make a hovercraft.
Looks like he had one too many chalupas and couldn't exactly get off the ground. - capn_caveman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To the moon and beyond!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- tylerni7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That was awesome! Now I just need him to build me one...
- elpayo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I prefer levitating.
- pixel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The article states that more people have walked on the moon than flown a jetpack... I believe only twelve have walked on the moon (Apollo 11, 12, 14, 15, 16 and 17).
Now I wonder how much longer would a jet pack last on the moon? - flag8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That picture looks messed up...
- headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Bandwidth Limit Exceeded
Just as I was half-way through reading all his site's pages. Damn. - system900, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That would work much better and fitting for the look on this guys face. That button might be bigger to fit "Arriba".
- kolop1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 Yeah this is a lie. No actual pictures of him flying. Why would they not post that.
- NoSalt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Okay ... to add more information to the Mythbusters thread. The Mythbusters didn't try to build a "jetpack", they tried to build a personal flying machine that used ducted fans. The myth that they were trying to bust was that a person could build a personal "ducted fan" flying machine with the mail-order plans from the internet. If you watch the episode you will see that they actually visit a company that makes jetpacks and they DO contrast their device with the jetpack.
Let's not disparage the Mythbusters now! - ramd3z, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0meant to say I am Mexican.
- Crispin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is a great article. I wish I had the kind of motivation this guy does.
- mercano, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Now I wonder how much longer would a jet pack last on the moon?"

About six times as long (Four minutes, if he is getting 40 seconds on Earth), as the moon has ~1/6 the gravity. - digitalblue1313, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Technopundit is lame. Corny!
- BritOverseas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0>"Now I wonder how much longer would a jet pack last on the moon?" posted by pixel (0)
>About six times as long (Four minutes, if he is getting 40 seconds on Earth), as the moon has ~1/6 the gravity.
Err, actually, it doesn't necessarily work like that, I don't believe it is linear. If he boosted straight "up" there would be a good chance that he would escape the moons gravity and become a space icepopmexican. Don't flame me for figures but I think thats about right, it did not take much boost at ALL to get the Apollo lander back into orbit and that weighed several tons. - Mutifus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Go go gadget jeetttpppacccckkkkkkk........ *BANG*
