- rcomegys, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's called the "Exploratorium", not "Explorium".
- blacksh33p, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Also, I thought the title had something to do with farting or *****. I first read it as "500 Simple Excrements anyone can do"
- AllanX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The Exploratorium rocks. If you visit San Francisco, it's a MUST SEE. There's hundreds of interactive science experiments to try out -- I spent all day there and didn't see it all.
- dmann, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dugg for the fact that i have three nephews and one neice who will dig (pun intended) this.
Check yuor speleling dood - BritOverseas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anything that teaches good science is good in my book.
- Pas3n7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't know about you guys, but I had fun exploring broken and outdated links!
- KevinJ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0LOLZ
- blacksh33p, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh dear lord. You HAVE to watch the Cow Eye Dissection. The largely sized boy..or maybe it's a girl...I can't figure it out...is just fantastic in the videos. Watch and learn!
I am curious why Jamie doesn't wear gloves during this. Then I figured he/she licked his/her fingers as soon as they stop filming. Its the logical answer. - WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yup, "Digg Effect" in full effect!
- btipling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah I had just woken up when I submitted this. I wish I could go back and change the spelling.
- ThankTheCheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0little slow atm - digg effect maybe
well organised website though. Would be a great resource for a primary school teacher! and you get a gold star for not linking directly to your blog :)
+ digg - computerjoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree with dm1030 here. LEARN TO SPELL!
- theRIAA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0you can still acess there webcasts
http://www.exploratorium.edu/webcasts/index.html
lets shut that down too - deelo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Reminds me of an old book by Hans Jurgen Press -> Simple Science Experiments.. thanks for the link :D

It works because God hates you for using all caps. - WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ btipling
LOL Well, at least you called them exeriments, and not excrements!
Things could have been worse!
Anyhow, your friends at digg promptly shut down those nasty servers!
I guess that is what you wanted. :-)
Nice site. - awesinine, on 07/15/2009, -0/+0"HOW DOES THE DIGG EFFECT WORK ANYWAY? NOT ENOUGH BANDWIDTH OR WHAT? Does anyone know?"
it's simple enthem:
1) someone submits a page to digg
2) ???
3) profit! - agentflit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0An explanation of the digg effect has already been on the front page: http://digg.com/links/The_digg_effect_-_a_visual_analysis
- btipling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wrote a bigger review of the site here: http://www.sharewonders.com/2006/02/26/exploratorium/
Since it didn't link in the description section. :/ - Darq1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I thought it said "excriments" .....
- republicoftexas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Speell Cheekk neeedddeed!
- rhawk301, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0enthem: The "digg effect" is simply too many people making to a website which is poorly configured, or not running enough horsepower. This could include a small pipe, small under-powered web server, Apache configured with too little maxclient settings, and more. Usually it is pretty simple, not enough horsepower on the server itself.
Poorly configured PHP can also cause this problem. Web servers which get high traffic should make sure that all appropriate modules are compiled and configured correctly. Make sure that your maxclients setting is high enough, and if you expect more than 256 users at a time, you need to re-compile Apache with something higher.
IIS servers should simply make sure they have enough RAM, like over 4GB or so. If the website is dynamic, make sure the database connector is really robust. Java websites need to make sure your container memory size is large enough. Make sure that you have at least 1GB+ dedicated to java. Garbage collection should always be tuned appropriately.
Last but not least, always use a load balancer of some kind when serving up lots of traffic. - capn_caveman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The exploratorium really is one of the best interactive science museums in the world. I truly enjoyed the visit. I was really really impressed with their cloud chamber. So much impressed I built my own following directions I found on the net. +digg.
- subscribtion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0These exeriments intrigue me...
- signal15, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Do these experiments involve removing random letters from words? :)
- eNthem, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0HOW DOES THE DIGG EFFECT WORK ANYWAY? NOT ENOUGH BANDWIDTH OR WHAT? Does anyone know?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Science is for people who have a future doing more than asking if you want fries with that or putting your new GAP pants in a sack. That is, no Americans.
Sorry kids! - KevinJ, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0How are they experiments if the results are already known?
- cantaclaro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0WTF is an Exeriment?
- dm1030, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Can "Learning to spell, at least for headlines" be one of the new experiments added to the site? We have been having an epidemic of mis-spelling in that area lately.
- UnclePunk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Looks like the title of this submission is an experiment...
- eNthem, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Nice Digg! I was at exploratorium and I really must say that it is a cool place to see!

- eNthem, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0If anyone can explain in detail how the digg effect works, I can almost guarantee it will make it to the homepage... remember me when that happens! :)
