news.nationalgeographic.com — An ancient burial site linked to two little-known civilizations has been discovered in southeast Bogot á, Colombia. The site includes one set of remains that seems to have been buried alive -- "Her mouth is open as if in terror, and her hands seem contracted as if she had tried grabbing hold of something."

I see what you did there. - AtomicTheory, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1It's not the unique tombs that remain found, but those that haven't been found yet that interest me!

Or, you know, muscles contract or something when people die.
No, its more likely she sat there in terror with her hands and face clutched like that for the rather long period of time before she died, not relaxing once.- BenO169, on 05/13/2008, -2/+1Maybe it was a threesome.
- lysdexia, on 05/13/2008, -1/+3Did you miss the *as if*? Or not understand it's use in the sentence?
- hakluytbean, on 05/13/2008, -2/+1Did you miss the journalistic use of 'as if'? Or do you not understand it's use in the sentence?
- InferiorWang, on 05/13/2008, -0/+8It's amazing how little we know about the prehistory of the American continents.
- Janizzary, on 05/13/2008, -2/+4She may have been crying when she died...how sad...

- nucleicoutfit, on 05/13/2008, -0/+28"...indigenous shamans spending long periods in caves with no exposure to sunlight..."
That lifestyle is vaguely familiar..- RebelReform89, on 05/13/2008, -1/+2Oh my....technology wizards are the shamans of the 21st century!
- zantos420, on 05/13/2008, -1/+3...to your parents basement?
- zohaibusman, on 05/13/2008, -0/+4The tombs range in date from around the first century to the 16th century A.D., based on analysis of pottery found with the remains.
- inajeep, on 05/13/2008, -2/+3Maybe you should have put the more accurate quote in the description....
"Likewise, her opened jaw may be the result of the body having been moved before or after burial, he said."
but I guess you wouldn't have gotten the diggs. Interesting article, I wish there were more pics. - Pobotrol, on 05/13/2008, -6/+1"Guillermo *****"
snigger... - Kas70, on 05/13/2008, -1/+1Maybe she was in a defensive posture, trying to ward off the "weapon", or earth, as it covered her, pinning her in that position. Of course there's no way to know for sure, but I think she looks frozen in terror.
- juanchopanza, on 05/13/2008, -2/+2Grave Robbers, even those with UCLA degrees, National Geographic grants, and snug puestos in national universities, are still grave robbers. The wholesale desecration of indigenous graves not only prevents less invasive future archaeological study, but makes "knowing" the past much harder. Wild conjectures thrown around in this article appeal to the prurient, but do little to improve understanding. What a shame.
- MajorLou8Digg, on 05/13/2008, -1/+0Interesting Ancient Tomb discovery! Reading of the human remains positions at burial, was a bit disturbing.
- Frisbinator, on 05/13/2008, -0/+2Articles like this drive me nuts, they always start out with describing how the site was found, the boring stuff found there (pottery and human remains), the the tribe that MIGHT have been active there (of which they usually know very little about) and the buildings found there (usually a temple). They might as well have some type of template that asks TRIBE, LOCATION, BUILDING TYPES, EXPERT NAME, DISAGREEING EXPERT NAME and they could write all of the archaelogical find articles from here on out!
- MajorLou8Digg, on 05/13/2008, -2/+0Earthquake powerful enough to be felt throughout most of China! Many Children were buried under the rubble of their Schools. Very heartbreaking news. What a difficult time for China's Families and loved ones. May those who are in a position to help China with this horrible natural disaster, jump to their aid immediately!

"Ancient Colombian Secret."" - maolmuire, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1Laughable conjecture and pandering idiocy trying to pass themselves off as science. Buried.
