- DannyAndNina, on 02/17/2008, -9/+562That is so incredibly ignorant. Everyone knows the sun revolves around the moon.
- DermDoc, on 02/17/2008, -8/+492I don't believe in revolution.
- pintomp3, on 02/17/2008, -1/+420i can't believe people can be so stupid. how can the sun revolve around a flat object?
- quakerorts, on 02/17/2008, -25/+282I mean 'revolves' :~)
- allaboutdatiki, on 02/17/2008, -2/+245Dateline: July 6, 1999 ... surely we've become even more ignorant since that date ...
- oboy, on 02/17/2008, -16/+208Wait, are you saying the the sun DOESN'T revolve around the earth? That's crazy talk! You should be burned at the stake.
- atdigg, on 02/17/2008, -3/+142It's just a theory
- EllieElliott, on 02/17/2008, -21/+152not surprising beings that we can't even manage the MUCH SIMPLER metric system.
*sigh*
shoot me now - dserfaty, on 02/17/2008, -2/+107FTA: These results are comparable to those found in Germany when a similar question was asked there in 1996; in response to that poll, 74% of Germans gave the correct answer, while 16% thought the sun revolved around the earth, and 10% said they didn't know. When the question was asked in Great Britain that same year, 67% answered correctly, 19% answered incorrectly, and 14% didn't know.
- coheedcollapse, on 02/17/2008, -4/+99The fact that the Earth orbits around the sun is something so elementary I really can't fathom anyone NOT knowing it. Unbelievable.
It's times like these that I wish sperm count was directly correlated to intelligence. Unfortunately, it seems that they have an edge on us when it comes to rampant and meaningless reproduction. - anarchytv, on 02/17/2008, -9/+80Everyone revolves around me!
- Punjaber, on 02/17/2008, -3/+72Well 90% of all statistics are false
- Harbinger67, on 02/17/2008, -0/+61I demand that Intelligent Turning be taught in schools.
- curtispan, on 02/17/2008, -5/+65It's actually "you're" you idiot.
- matt510, on 02/17/2008, -0/+56Revolution = Orbit, Rotation = spin on axis (at least in the context of astronomy)
- Ironzombie, on 02/17/2008, -5/+54seriously though how many people answered wrong because of the lulz?
- holygram, on 02/17/2008, -2/+50I don't believe in revovlution.
- Nikole, on 02/17/2008, -4/+52Does this 18% consist of infants???
- thebellmaster1x, on 02/17/2008, -3/+50Holy fail, Batman!
- wontstoptalking, on 02/17/2008, -7/+48That is like, so 1700's.
- Icyfenix, on 02/17/2008, -0/+39The sun is also flat, silly.
- TheColonel, on 02/17/2008, -2/+40Unless you're Owen Wilson...
- matt510, on 02/17/2008, -1/+38Says the person who clearly doesn't understand metric.
- redfox2600, on 02/17/2008, -0/+35Actually it just a model.
- GoKings, on 02/17/2008, -2/+35Not as bad as the 56% of the French audience that said the same thing... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59Ga5PuckA0
- TobiasParker, on 02/17/2008, -6/+39Yes blame America even though it says in the article the results were comparable to Germany's. I would think the more telling statistic is that 54% of African-Americans did not know that America gained it's independence from Britain. I do not mean that in the racist sense, but more as a commentary on the dilapidated state of the Education system in Urban areas.
- thebellmaster1x, on 02/17/2008, -5/+37Ah, but it would be too hard to switch. We can't inconvenience the old people, can we?
...Or something like that.
...
...Science laughs at us. :( - allan17, on 02/17/2008, -0/+32Funny that America scored higher (79%) than Germany (74%) and the UK (67%), yet it's the American's who are being called down in this post.
- somespecial, on 02/17/2008, -7/+39No, no, the Sun revolves around the Milky Way, and is moving towards the Virgo Cluster. The moon does revolve around the earth, but also moves around the sun with us. So really you could say the Earth is moving around the milky way with the Sun.
- luskin, on 02/17/2008, -4/+35http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59Ga5PuckA0
- atdigg, on 02/17/2008, -10/+41Things are probably worse now after so many years for Jesus science under Bush
- OnionAvenger, on 02/17/2008, -1/+3018% of Americans also spell "revolves" as "revovles"
- blast_flame, on 02/17/2008, -1/+30Part of me just screams that the sun question and the independence question should be on the ballot and if you get them wrong your vote isn't counted.
- matt510, on 02/17/2008, -1/+29I can't really tell if you are being serious or not...
It takes light from the Sun 8 minutes to get to Earth.
The Sun's movement across the sky does not mean it is actually moving. (Well it is moving around the center of the galaxy, but not around the Earth.) - explnx, on 04/27/2009, -4/+31I personally think Tycho Brahe had it right: the moon and sun revolve around the earth, and all of the other planets revolve around the sun. Except for pluto, neptune, and uranus, which don't exist.
- Kannebas, on 02/17/2008, -1/+28Intelligent Rotation: God and Jesus spin the Earth and Sun on their fingers like basketballs... FACT!
- viggooo, on 02/17/2008, -2/+28Yes, these facts change about each four years. In fact, the earth and the sun revolves around each other in turn!
- marnaq, on 02/17/2008, -0/+25They renamed it 200 years ago. It's called Urectum.
- Strawgate, on 02/17/2008, -5/+30Assumptions are, on average, probably the least accurate sources of information in the entire world. I just saw a story in the news that said two people in the UK had married, but it turned out they were twins separated at birth. So now im going to spread the rumor that 50% of all people in the UK have had incest.
- Easty, on 02/17/2008, -1/+26My car gets fourty rods to the hogshead and that's the way I likes it!
- haydesigner, on 02/17/2008, -2/+27My anus doesn't exist??
- inactive, on 02/17/2008, -1/+26I'm hoping people just put down the wrong answers to ***** with the Gallup poll people.
It can't truly be 18%... right??? - stillasleep00, on 02/17/2008, -3/+27UNAMERICAN!!!!!!!
- BillDoor, on 02/17/2008, -1/+25Yes, we now know that the sun doesn't actually exist. It's just part of Al Gore's Global Warming propaganda *****.
- otakushark, on 02/17/2008, -1/+25Newer 2005 article, similar depressing statistic.
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/08/30/science/30profil ... - matt510, on 02/17/2008, -1/+24And you don't see the inherent advantage to using metric?
- theragu40, on 02/17/2008, -5/+28Yeah, well if you read the article, you'd see that the same question was asked of several European countries (where they *do* use the metric system), and the percentage of people who knew the earth revolves around the sun was lower in each of them than it was in the US. So...
- MutatedNantuko, on 02/17/2008, -2/+25Oh, the irony is delicious.
- inactive, on 02/17/2008, -1/+22Well, if you really think about it... it's a theory of a model.
- inactive, on 02/17/2008, -0/+21I have a pointy hat. Can I be a Bishop?
