- tyshro, on 04/04/2008, -0/+6There is a great deal of debate about that. There are a lot of people who agree with bohemianowl. In the 1960's, endocrinologists started injecting very short kids with human pituitary extracts enriched for growth hormone. The kids grew. In the mid 70s a better extraction procedure was invented. More kids were injected. More grew. Only... not as much as they had hoped. And starting in the 1980s, about 2% of the folks who were injected with the crude extract started dying of Creutzfeld-Jacob disease (human Mad Cow Disease). The crude extract had been accidentally contaminated with a prion.
So, bohemianowl, would you still risk your life for height? - Mythosman, on 04/04/2008, -0/+6lol a/s/l gramma

- cbdgr, on 04/04/2008, -0/+4lets work on colonizing other planets first before we keep trying to increase our lifespan.
- xerofilter, on 04/04/2008, -0/+3idk my bff gladys?
- digthebest, on 04/04/2008, -0/+2Wow, thanks to my gene. ;)
- Sino, on 04/04/2008, -0/+2Now i understand why sea turtles live to be like 150 years old
- underdog138, on 04/04/2008, -0/+2Honestly, it's possible to grow old and still stay with the times. I plan on still being like, super awesome with my kids when I retire. Same thing my mom said about me, and her mom, and her mom.. aw *****.. My mom isn't cool. Damn.
But anyway, seriously. When you get old, stay sharp, and keep learning. Complacency with life leads to mental death. Die with a book in your hands. That's the best way to get the most out of it. - jellygraph, on 04/04/2008, -0/+2John McCain uses instant messaging? I wonder what he uses... msn, yahoo, pidgin, trillian?

- inactive, on 04/04/2008, -0/+2Yeah, but you still need help getting stuff off the top shelf.
- 1337pino, on 04/04/2008, -0/+2I don't know...I mean, on the whole, the average height for a human being is constantly rising. Also, the average lifespan (especially if you only look at "natural" causes of death) is also rising. I just find it hard to correlate shorter stature with the longevity of life.
- acatzr800, on 04/04/2008, -0/+2i love how the whole article *isn't* about an old lady IMing, rather its a gimmick to get you to listen about some gene short people have or some boring crap like that
- p8ntslinger676, on 04/04/2008, -1/+2what a badass :D i hope i live that long none the less im ppl at that age.
- roebeet, on 04/04/2008, -0/+1You might think differently. when you're 80. It's easy to say this when you're young, but when the time comes most people want to live, regardless.
- aaabatteries, on 04/04/2008, -0/+1AOL Instant Messenger.
- warriorscot, on 04/04/2008, -0/+1You could just be naturally tall, Im 6 5" and I cant say I would give it up for an extra few years I quite enjoy it the benefits are pretty good for being tall and outweigh the disadvantages even the slightly shorter life. If you are naturally short I can't say I agree with making yourself taller with drugs its just one of the things you can't change it makes you who you are I wouldn't change myself if I were short as I wouldn't change being tall now.
Being tall is nice, you can be too tall but there is a nice range from 6 feet to 6 and a half where it is quite enjoyable and the advantages are prominent and the disadvantages less so. I think bohemianowl was meaning that its not something you would trade away for a few extra years, which on a personal note I don't necessarily agree with as taller people generally from what I have seen find it easier to stay fitter and healthier into old age with the exception of the increased joint wear which is a bit of a bitch but they are pretty good at replacing joints now I think it will probably balance out on average like most things. - Ghstfce, on 04/04/2008, -0/+1Damn you! In before I could get to it!!!

- jpl7986, on 04/04/2008, -0/+1yeah, you're just gonna be shorter, for a longer period of time...
- jpl7986, on 04/04/2008, -0/+1this comment will be buried faster than that old hag will
- anatraj, on 04/04/2008, -0/+1I concur wholly. Who would want to live in this steaming pile of ***** we're going to have in a couple hundred years? I would rather have a shorther life span with better quality of life.

- rjam710, on 04/04/2008, -0/+1It's easy to say that you wouldn't change being short when you're freakin 6' 5"; you've never been through what a short person has. That's like being thin and saying, "I'd never get liposuction if I was fat." I'm not saying it's the most traumatic experience ever, but it's not that easy either. I've gone through my whole life with people mocking me, looking down on me (sometimes literally), and underestimating me just because I was short. That can really get to you. Personally, I wouldn't ever try to change myself to be taller, because, as you said, this is who I am and I'm quite happy with that. However, I could see how someone would be more than willing to do anything to gain a few inches.

- skippy562, on 04/04/2008, -1/+1WHOA!!! my emo detector is going through the roof!!!
- brianara3, on 04/04/2008, -1/+0Who the hell wants to live over a century? Especially if you have massively degraded health. What if you have to use a cane to walk and can't really drive anymore? I think anything over 80 years would be more than enough for me... If I can't do it within 80 years, I sure won't be able to do it then.
Now... if they could freeze me and bring me back in 100 years... that would be cool. - Cryptocracy, on 08/17/2008, -8/+5I would rather be tall and live a shorter life.
