- sgtpepper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I didn't realize they made a color iPod less than 15 gigs...
(for 1-4g Ipods) - xistboi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This has to be the coolest hack I have seen in a LONG time!
- atavist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0g=generation. I think.

- psyonide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"u tried it jonzo?"
You don't have to try it to know it's choppy. Watch the videos. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Either way, it runs on non-color ipods, its just in grayscale.
4 shades of gray. It's not playable without color, trust me. - jaredworm, on 10/31/2008, -0/+0That guy must really feel like an ass now.
Either way, it runs on non-color ipods, its just in grayscale. - EN7r0py, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I dled it, all i have is a 1g mini, completely unplayable unless the ipod is color. Mini has 4 shades of grey, u can barely make out the floors and walls. it will run but just bareley. I wish i had a color ipod now...
- CardinalFang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Once you get Linux running on something, there's no telling what else you'll get to run.
- xN8x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.ipodlinux.org/4g STILL WAITING
- RWVolkl158, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Even if you do have a color iPod, is it playable with the iPod's buttons? By playable I mean can you control it reasonably well reasonably comfortably...
- BSherrod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i totally agree with jamesa, does doom have to be ported to every electronic device available? i cant wait to play doom on my fax machine/copier.
- xN8x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ipod linux is the greatest... I want it for my 4g. I've been watching/waiting since I got it.
- Jonzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0too bad it runs really slow and choppy
- xN8x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Someone should hack up a controller that plugs into the dock port on the bottom of the ipod....
- xN8x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0By the way... I dont' see any other hdd mp3 players being made to run linux. I bought my iPod just because there's such a big accessory market.
- Wartex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oooh! This is gonna be sweet on my 1g iPod Shuffle!
- EPeters, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The first things they EVER port to ANYTHING is Linux, Tetris, Pong, and Doom for some reason...
The doom engine is open source, so that's why it's gets ported so quickly. - Satertek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Someone who knows how to focus a camera needs to upload their pictures to that wiki.
- Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0After a half an hour of troubleshooting I finally got iPod Linux running on my non-color 4g iPod using the August 6th nightly of the Podzilla interface, available here (http://www.ipodlinux.org/builds/2005-08-06-podzilla.gz). Using any of the interfaces that were provided in the main download from (http://www.ipodlinux.org/4G_Installer) didn't work. After the bootup process, the screen would go black. After some tweaking I got it to display some sort of menu for the podzilla interface, but it was horribly distorted. I then tried the August 7th nightly build but that had the same problem. Finally, I tried the August 6th nightly, which showed up and worked mostly fine. The image viewer (part of the file browser) worked, better than expected, in fact (although limited by the 4 shades available). The games worked great. There were problems, though. Music won't play back in real time. It skips terribly for all my MP3's and AAC's which are encoded in 192Kbps, and Lame APS/APE. My only big complaints other than the audio issues are, the iPod-like screen transitions are very slow (luckily they can be disabled), and the scrolling is terrible (you just have to see that one for yourself). If they can work those issues, they could have a real alternative to the main iPod software. The best thing about iPod Linux? It lets you dual boot, choosing whether it boots itself by default or the standard iPod software, and you can boot whichever is not set to load by default by holding down the rewind button. This is great, cause I can boot into iPod Linux if I want to a game, look at the neat-o extra stuff (like the 3D Cube, or the real-time Matrix Code) or turn some nice photos into 4 shade messes. :) Looking forward to the software's progress. Now, on to the GB Emulator. I'll pass on Doom, though. After seeing my photos ravaged by the iPod's 4 shades... yeah... I'll pass.
- EN7r0py, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0for those of u with 4gs, why wait?
http://www.ipodlinux.org/4G_Installer
and u can get the beta of the gb emulator too
http://www.ipodlinux.org/GB_Emulator
This process is fairly easy and foolproof, give it a try, just dont expect to run doom well unless u have a phoo or one of those newfangled color screen things - megatoast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This looks awesome.
Remember when there was a time when we could listen to music on iPods? - 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0What's an iPod?
