- friend18, on 12/02/2007, -2/+46It would really be awesome if 1up hires Jeff. I'm a big fan of 1up and I've been reading EGM for years. I liked Gamespot because of Rich Gallup and Jeff Gerstmann. Now with Rich and Jeff gone from Gamespot there is no reason for me to ever go back there and listen to their podcast. If 1up gets Gerstmann they would have an all star review team in my eyes.
- Fox318, on 12/02/2007, -1/+27Before people start saying that this is just for getting Gamespots fans to head to 1up they should first listen, read and look at 1up/egms history.(Total Recall(nes))
1up just made a huge statement here and they also won a little more respect. - mrfreeziexp, on 12/02/2007, -0/+18direct link to flickr set: http://www.flickr.com/photos/the1upshow/
That was a really impressive show of support, and I honestly didn't expect it. Good for 1up, + respect for you. - dn11, on 12/02/2007, -0/+14GameSPOT... slight difference dude
- terminal157, on 12/02/2007, -0/+14I've been reading EGM for many years (since it began, actually, though I was just a kid then) and their integrity has always been perfectly evident. They give mediocre to bad reviews of AAA games all the time, and they don't inflate their scores like most reviewers (Game Informer, for instance, where a game gets above a 5 if it runs). I haven't always agreed 100% with EGM's reviews, but I've never, in all the time I've read it, thought they weren't being honest, reasonable and fair.
- thebellmaster1x, on 12/02/2007, -0/+12Holy *****, I'm an idiot. SORRY.
- Unfit, on 12/02/2007, -1/+12This is why ZD magazines are the only gaming periodicals I trust with reviews.
- Tserk, on 12/02/2007, -0/+10Gerstmann for 5th chair on 1up Yours!
- seldon452, on 12/02/2007, -0/+10How amazing would it be if 1up hired Jeff. That would be fantastic.
- dn11, on 12/02/2007, -0/+9i'm not surprised at all. considering how candid and open the 1UP and Ziff people are about their review policy and the lack there of that permeates much of the gaming media
- Scrappy1850, on 12/02/2007, -0/+5total recall?! NES?! what year is it, mcfly?
- TheZorch, on 12/02/2007, -1/+6I read the original EGM Total Recall NES game review. They were brutally honest about the game being crap, and it was. Gamepro gave the game high marks because it was only worried about advertising sales.
- zmjone2992, on 12/02/2007, -0/+5nope
- lostmongoose, on 12/02/2007, -0/+5No, not really. If any of those people had integrity of their own, they'd leave now as well. By staying they are basically saying 'Meh, it happens all the time. We've just learned to write what the bosses want.'
- jaychuck, on 12/02/2007, -0/+5well, i hope you have fun living the life. you obviously have it all compared to us.
- dn11, on 12/02/2007, -1/+5yeah, I was using "sarcasm", but i know that doesn't translate
- Ignignokt01, on 12/02/2007, -0/+4sadly, Gamepro hasn't changed much since then
- RAEP, on 12/02/2007, -1/+4It's not like there is a video game industry or anything. It's not like video games are some people's livelihoods.
owait. - darkchild82, on 12/02/2007, -0/+31UP isn't the only one.. popular gaming forum NeoGAF is also protesting by filtering all of CNET's & Eidos' properties from their forums ! Link- http://digg.com/gaming_news/CNET_Sites_Eidos_Games ...
- dn11, on 12/02/2007, -1/+4their sister publican GFW (formerly CGW) has the same reputation in the PC gaming market
- Jeffler, on 12/02/2007, -1/+4I wish I could digg you twice for honesty.
- briansearles, on 12/02/2007, -0/+3They should start a games-writers strike.
- SemiSarcastic, on 12/02/2007, -0/+2Anything to keep the video game industry from turning into the movie industry. As much as people don't seem to mind about this, this is a big issue for gamers. We run the risk of replacing people like Jeff with more "suits" who will never be as objective, that will give Dog ***** in a Box a 9.0 and above as long as its plastered all over their website for ad revenue if we the consumers don't speak out. I already have to read most mainstream news and movie reviews with a skeptical eye, lets not have video games suffer the same fate.
- jaychuck, on 12/02/2007, -0/+2nothing that isn't completely vague yet.
- SemiSarcastic, on 12/02/2007, -0/+2Don't you have a Television writers strike rally to attend to?
- potterboy, on 12/02/2007, -1/+3Tell that to Jeff.
- SemiSarcastic, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1lol what the hell are you doing here!?
- iPwn, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1Nice, but I would have gone with some form of an offensive sign :)
- dclowd9901, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1As the case may be, if you believe Gerstmann's firing was wrong, as a reader of Gamespot, you have an obligation and duty to boycott Gamespot's practices of firing reviewers over editorial content, based on advertisership. It won't be long before your other favorites are gone too over problems like the enigmatic "tone."
- inactive, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1Not to be all "when I was young.." but Gamespot has just gotten increasingly worse over the the last years, I think since the Xboxification blight started early in the 2000ands. You could see the commercialism slowly seep through and then completely devour the whole page, and then came the day when their treachery was clear for all to see;
Half-life 2 got a 9.2 and Halo 2 gets a 9.5. Half-Life 2 was accused of not being revolutionary enough, despite excellent never-seen-before physics, something obviously accomplished by Halo 2 with it's exiting new Double Wielding feature. Bitter memories.
I think it is time to acknowledge that the site we all once loved is gone for ever...
Gamespot R.I.P - rigg419, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1some of Ziff Davis is part of CNET, like ZDnet, however most of it is not. Ziff Davis properties have been broken up and sold of as parts several times
- Akyan, on 12/02/2007, -1/+2ZDnet != Ziff Davis
- Asfaril, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1yesyes, but ZDnet is no longer part of the Ziff Davis Group, it was sold to CNet in 2000. 1Up and other Ziff Davids media sites are not part of ZDnet.
- rupertmorris, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1http://www.news.com/2100-1023-243338.html
- darkchild82, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1What Cnet acquired was basically the online properties of Ziff Davis at the time. They acquired ZDnet. The print arm & other properties were spun off.
- jggr, on 12/02/2007, -3/+3Wow. A troll. Neat. Are you hungry trollie? Would you like a cookie? How 'bout a nice tall glass of shut the ***** up? Would you like that? Uh, trollie? Would ya?
And it's not about gaming.... It's about integrity in a market we are all here interested in. - macfanboi, on 12/02/2007, -1/+1Former PC Magazine editor resigned, so what makes you think it can't happen @ 1UP?
- int10h, on 12/02/2007, -0/+0Boohoo

http://www.generics.ws/ - noneuclidean, on 12/03/2007, -1/+1I'm so sick of joystiq getting the digg for 1up news.
- inactive, on 12/02/2007, -2/+1Why are people digging Somesthetic down? The three people he named are also a great part of the show, and Jeff was the heart of it.
- rupertmorris, on 12/02/2007, -3/+1Uh... you DO realize that ZDnet and CNet are owned by the same company, right?
- jaychuck, on 12/02/2007, -4/+1slight? more like "the total opposite".
- etsa, on 12/02/2007, -5/+1salute and may the force be with you!
Bring your lightsabers!! - somesthetic, on 12/02/2007, -7/+2Rich and Jeff are great, but as a long time fan of Gamespot I have to stand up for Ryan Davis, Alex Navarro, Brad Shoemaker, Tor Thorson and the other great editors still working there.
I do believe that Jeff was the heart of Gamespot, and I don't know how all of this will pan out, but assuming the best, it is still worth going there to support those guys. - zoziw, on 12/02/2007, -6/+1Do we actually have confirmation why Gerstmann got let go? All I have seen is an anonymous blog entry.
- misterchanesaw, on 12/02/2007, -5/+0patrick klepek is the worst
- knodi, on 12/02/2007, -7/+1Hope they drop Shane and get Jeff.
- senatebuddy, on 12/02/2007, -9/+1I've been watching this development for the past day or two, and I can't believe so many people are getting so worked up about this
I hate to sounds like Rudolph Guiliani, but you people need to take a hard look at your lives. -
