  • asteron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I am marking this as INACCURATE. The Wii is advertized as being able to play camera videos and pictures. The fact that you can convert divx into mjpeg does NOT give the Wii new functionality.

    You might as well claim it can play XVID, H.264, WMV9, MPEG-4, DVDs and Flash. I mean all can be converted to the proper format after all.

  • aardwolf, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14MJPEG is the format is can play. Using WiiVideo9 you can convert just about anything to that format, but why? MJPEG results in HUGE filesizes, even if encoded at lower bitrates. And loading through SD card isn't exactly what I'd call a great user experience.

    I'm holding off for the system to be truly hacked and the Wii Media Center to come to life. Bluetooth, Wifi, SD slots, this thing is just dieing to be hacked.

They didn't do anything to the wii, they didn't get it to play anything it didn't have the ability to play straight out of the box..all they did was use a video converter program on a file....woopie.

    I'm watching the 11:11 Mario 3 speed-run right now to try it out. The just more than 10 min. video takes more than 350 megs on my SD card so like the site says, be warned.
  • tavisjohn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Burried as Innacurate. there is nothing allowing the play of DiVx on a Wii. It talks about converting DiVx files to another format that the WII can play.

    If I want to watch DiVx video, I'll burn it to a data DVD or CD and watch it on my DVD-Recorder that is DiVx certified.

Anyway, if you want to watch divx on your tv, easiest/best way is XBMC running on a softmodded xbox (or hardmodded, but soft is easier and doesn't require opening the xbox).

  • jlunski, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1I can't read the article here at work (stupid smart filter) but I think some of you are missing the point, in the short time span that this console has been being able to watch these movies is pretty impressive, at least I think so.

    Granted I have a slapped together HTPC at home that is nothing special but I use it to watch all sorts of stuff on my TV streaming it from another PC, if this type of thinking progresses it would be nice to be able to use a Wii in that same function.

    I can transfer my pirated movies from the PC, waste the time to put it on an SD card, walk downstairs, and watch it on my Wii, after clicking through the menus and loading up the player!

    And, I get to spend extra money on an SD card to do so!

    WOWIE WOW WOW.
