LOL - Sniper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Faulty Xboxs explained (taken from slashdot/xbox-scene):
There was a posting on xbox-scene from a group who managed to get two of the pre-ordered Xbox units. Getting back home, they hooked up all the cables and power and viola -- bad Xbox 360. So they opened the other box, leaving all the existing plugs and wires into the TV and all in place, put the new XBox unit on the existing wires and viola -- bad Xbox 360. (They admit they were freaked that they may have had *two* broken Xbox 360s out of the gate.) The 'other' PSU made the Xbox work fine, even when tested on both console units. They mention there are slight variations in the two PSU designed.
So, it really appears that one of Microsofts PSU suppliers screwed up. With multiple PSU suppliers, It would also help explain why some people complain their XBox 360 is "loud" or has a lot of "fan noise" and others claim it is pretty quiet. This may not explain away every Xbox360 problem, but it sure seems reasonable. - phanfave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Me wonders...how many xBox 360's on eBay over the next few days will be ones that don't work? I mean c'mon. Why return something when you can double your money and get another in a few weeks. It's not like M$ is going to overnite a new 360 to you just because your's is busted and you want a new one RIGHT NOW!
I'd steer clear of eBay xBox's from now forward. - heinousjay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Christ, this place is as bad as Slashdot with the fake-cool Microsoft bashing. I guess nerds are intolerable everywhere, full of their pseudo-clever jokes they tell over and over. Shame, it seemed like this site had potential, but John Gabriel's Greater Internet ***** Theory holds true.
- cmaulsby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The attached link at the end is great. Click the work "nefarious" .... it looks like they spent too much time playing GTA.
If I only had the foresight to get a few 360s to put up on eBay... F#@%. - xodex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hahah :) nice cortana joke :D
- beezn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1didnt we get told like 2 weeks ago that this was microsoft's idea so that they could say "Hey everyone in the media we sold out on the first day. we deserve news time!"
- chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The thing about he Xbox 360 problems is that they are clearly DOCUMENTED with video and such. With the PS2 you heard rumors and such, but never anything where the crashses were so commin that people posted screen shots and video.
- Amadeus2490, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0703 KN33. . .that's pronounced "SONY", right? I'm not good at this Leet stuff. . .
Anyways, you're TRYING to tell it? Why don't you just put it on Ebay? Or, to paraphrase Morpheus, "Stop trying to sell it, and sell it!" Not hatin', just sayin'.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
By "replenished", do they mean sending another 3 units to each store again? - jlgosse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You're an idiot if you get a 360 and it doesn't work, so you start to complain.
Ever hear of RETURNING something? *****. - 703_KN33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0im trying to sell my 360.
really, i can wait til feb/march with no problem. - s2angel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0We await the Mighty Linux based PS3... instead of the Always rushed to market beta that is so Microsoft full of bugs.. frig I'd wait tell the Hacks are popular on these things before i jump the gun..
Slashdot.org has a poll and well 70% said never for buying a XBOX360 intresting .. but 31 000 + does kinda make you wounder.. and the poll is still going as of this post..!! So no dig
Microsoft is after all , 90% marketing 10% or less is acual programmers.. (now you know why openoffice is so much friendlier then office, try fighting with MS office to place a picture then try it on something Opensource !!) - Morph_Ball, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice analogy, Harris. You come up with that one yourself? It rules~
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ha ha! Awesome Cortana joke.
And we _did_ get the information a month ago that Microsoft was planning this "shortage"-- and now they're playin' the game with the idiotic masses.
Screw Microsoft and Sony... I'm waiting for a Revolution! :p - AntiInsight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hope this means we dont have to wait until after Christmas for another shipment.
- harrisbradley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thunders, lucky for you... you can find your answer below. If someone 'diggs' a site, you are safe to assume that they care. I believe that is what the whole site is about.
Thanks for playin' - shuffle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WTF? The message has head right to the top of Microsoft? Microsoft engineered the shortage with their stupid marketing strategy to create a false shortage - that was well documented all over the place. I guarantee they have a ton of these things just collecting dust waiting to get shipped out at regular intervals.
- harrisbradley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't think you'll have to. My personal theory is that the 'understock' is aimed to capitalize on Christmas sales.
- silentauthority, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice Cortana joke...
No ***** they're replacing them, why would the ever miss a sale this big? - mingistech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yea... my local Target said they will be getting about 5 systems a week till the New Year.
.... and they don't know what days it'll show up. - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hope this is the truth, actually. It'd be pretty amazing on MS's part if they could actually keep up with the demand. As for weekly camp-outs, I really doubt this will happen. The hardest of the hardcore have already waited in line for theirs, and this new stock is for the average consumer.
- FamilyGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like the Cortana reference, that was great. I am OH so glad that I didn't go rushing out and buy a 360. It just seems like there are WAY too many people having problems with theirs. I already had the intentions of waiting to get one until sometime next May or June, and it looks like I made a good decision doing that.
- empraptor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The whole "we're out of Xbox360 and you can't have any until Christmas... oops I mean we'll have Xbox shipped every week" thing...
Anyone else reminded of episode of Southpark when Cartman buys an amusement park, drive everyone stupid crazy by denying entrance and thereby inadvertently driving demand, then gets called a business genius whose new "business practice" everyone copies? I think maybe someone at Microsoft really took that episode serious... and maybe it worked.
Maybe they have a stockpile of Xbox360 somewhere in a huge warehouse. I'd pay someone good money to find out the location of that warehouse if that were the case. I'd steal as much as I can and sell them all. - wiredadex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0People keep saying bad publicity is still publicity...
But I seriously don't believe that showcasing a faulty product (even if its 15%) gets them more sales. - chuck2006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Microsoft failed to clarify what the 360 represented in their next generation console. Little did we know that only 360 would be produced... : )
- s2angel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yet people buy cause microsoft spends so much money on analists and marketing genies... the shortage is marketing fluf.. they have the best people in the industry to convince you you need to buy this coat hanger cause its better then all the rest.. looks like there is at least 20 000 out of 30 000 that becuase of the unity the internet brings see through microsofts shortage fluf...
then again in a business perspective its wise to stock less then more. so I laugh at you buying up all the xboxes or stealing them for that matter waste your time.. when will the manufactors learn that the most flexable modifiable things that have open standards grow and the closed limited restricted standards die.. wake up.. have you not seen the success of the linksys wrt54g (s)
Yah some dude managed to compile the code as much as linksys tryed to avoid that.. now its the Best dam router known to man for the buck.. Linksys still does not get it.. Messed in the head I say greed messes you up.. they could make more money but they can't get past the greed part it stopping them from seeing the evolution part
Kukasch - Iam8up, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The only reason I dugg this was because of the self thought up summary! Good job!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Who would be dumb enough to pay for a 360 now - no matter how big of an xbox fanboy they are?
The PS3 and Revolution will be out by the time Microsoft manages to fix the crappy 360 hardware and 360 developers manage to come out with patches to fix their crashing games. - MemoryDump, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0mine is sealed and on ebay.. I also can wait a few months.. my xbox1 is still fun :)
- rideaurocks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well played on the headline. Dumbest thing I heard in that game. Second place is the objective after you find the flood: Escape! NO *****!
- ap0c, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll believe it when i see it. To tell you the truth, I am not impressed with the large amount of crashes that are being posted out there. Must suck waiting hours in line, paying big bucks for it and then having it crash consistently without a way to replace it with all the BS shortages.
- mikew101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I bought the original xbox when it first came out and it was a dud. It worked perfect for like two days, and then I would have to hope that games would load. I would have to restart the xbox like 5 times to get a game to load. I will never buy a system at launch againg due to that.
- brainspout, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0=== LAUGH YOUR ARSE OFF at all the mindless lemmings doing what Microsoft has programmed them to do ===
- Sniper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks like half of people who buy XBox360 will be phoning up Microsoft.
- 703_KN33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0amadeus2490: its more like "tony"
- KNon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Digg just for the discription.
- gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0who was the guy on G4 from Microsoft saying that there wont be a shortage?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sears.com had some to order yesterday. They sold out in 5 min though.

- ever, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0.. for the ppl who take all criticism towards 360 as flaming;
Google out a bit - there've been more faulty consoles on the 360 release than ever before. As for my view; I love my Xbox. I've had no problems with it since the day I got it (and that was back in 2001).
MS is having so much problem with the 360 release. It's a shame. It's a good console, things just don't seem to work out on the marketing/manufacturing side. - Centsless, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0the replenishment will be 2 per store per week
- ever, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0What with ~15% of 360s being faulty (check out teamxbox and xbox-scene polls and forums) I wouldn't mind waiting for a few months 'till they come up with a batch that's less crappy..
Oh well. At least I can warm my food on it. - harrisbradley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Hey, it's not SETI or a water heater. Sorry.
- rewritable, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I missed out on getting a load of 360's but I wont on the PS3's. I could've bought 6 360's but I couldn't get my hands on them. I just get more PS3's now instead. EBAY HERE I COME!!!!!!!!!!one 111111111!!!!!!!
