- acevoncash, on 07/15/2008, -3/+13310 bucks says it comes before home.
- UntouchableC, on 07/14/2008, -8/+113Good thing I'm a cheap bastard who refused to pay for themes and gamerpics.. catch me in the next update with the most generic avatar availible.
I still see the main and in-game dashboard as an improvement though. - freshyill, on 07/15/2008, -3/+93I have an Xbox 360. I just wanted to make that clear before telling you that you sound like a jackass.
- thedogfatherx, on 07/15/2008, -17/+93Well to start these avatars look stupid. Second, they are going to make you pay for clothes, hats, etc etc?? Gaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
- Trifold, on 07/15/2008, -17/+86Create a little online representation of yourself...awesome. I wonder where they come up with great ideas like that?
- Snuff99, on 07/15/2008, -6/+64Mii too.
- baldr, on 07/15/2008, -4/+49most people are hatin' on the aesthetics of the new dashboard, but when you look at how many features they added you realize the changes were necessary.
- MarianaPeyton, on 07/15/2008, -80/+119One more reason Xbox 360 owns PS3.
- estvir, on 07/15/2008, -7/+45I'll raise you $5 and also throw Duke Nukem Forever on the table for coming out before Home.
- v0yeur, on 07/15/2008, -10/+42the new dash is quite an improvement, although apple-esque (but what isn't nowadays?)
avatars are fugly, to say the least.
all in all though, a vast improvement over the blade system and way more elegant. - mistahroth, on 07/15/2008, -6/+36Last on the bandwagon?
- Kazbaeden, on 07/15/2008, -3/+31Um, except the actual games they showed during the press conference stand to extend the 360's reputation as the gamer's console, and this new dashboard interface does absolutely nothing to marginalize that.
RB2, GHIV, FFXIII, 3 other incredible looking RPGs from Square (2 exclusives), Fable 2 (exclusive), Fallout 3, GoW 2 (exclusive), RE5. What about those titles do you have a problem with?
I swear everyone saying this new interface is "too childish" sounds like they're 13. - freshyill, on 07/15/2008, -7/+34Am I the only one here who wants to punch every one of those smug-ass looking Mii-wannabes in their giant heads?
- ericrous, on 07/15/2008, -2/+26No because, unlike Home, this will actually be released.
- hughsie23, on 07/15/2008, -3/+25yea... its sweet that u can ave more than 2 people in a private chat, that was a big *****
- trunk8, on 07/15/2008, -1/+22But.......8-way voice chat. Now that's not copying Nintendo, is it?
- akilleen, on 07/15/2008, -0/+18One more reason competition is good.
- Duositex, on 07/15/2008, -22/+40I love how Microsoft is desperately trying to sink its claws into the profits from family-oriented casual gaming. The XBox was always touted as the gamer's machine and now this press conference makes it look like a rip-off of the Wii. Almost ALL of the software they touted during the press conference was from genre's that the 360 NEVER focused on before. My feeling is that the majority of the gamers that own a 360 already won't even be interested in those titles. Will they sell 360s to families interested in casual gaming now? Probably not. The Wii is STILL more attractive for that purpose and anyone interested in buying a console as a home theater platform is STILL going to want the Blu-ray player in the PS3.
- HamSandwich, on 07/15/2008, -3/+20Hey Debbie Downer, who pissed in your cornflakes?
- lcmatt, on 07/15/2008, -2/+18Themes and gamerpics will still work. You don't have to use an avatar.
- Antimatter3009, on 07/15/2008, -11/+27I really enjoy my 360, but I think we can just about go ahead and rename it a WiiS3 and be done with it.
Not that that's a bad thing, though. A ripoff, sure, but if they make a good ripoff it's better for all of us 360 owners :) - freshyill, on 07/15/2008, -0/+15Days before they announced it yesterday?
- EtherGnat, on 07/15/2008, -1/+15...not if you started that five course meal LAST Thanksgiving.
- thejokell, on 07/15/2008, -8/+22Please don't claim that Nintendo invented the use of avatars. Because that would be stupid.
- NCg8r, on 07/15/2008, -2/+16You mean one more instance of 1 console aping another (this time 2 in 1!).
- chedabob, on 07/15/2008, -4/+18Who cares about Blu-ray? Netflix support trumps Blu-ray.
- t4ll3y, on 07/15/2008, -0/+14You actually bought that *****?
- Pilot85, on 07/15/2008, -2/+16I think I'm gonna heart the netflix service.
- lcmatt, on 07/15/2008, -3/+17Does Sony offer the same amount of features, allow developers to integrate multiplayer without on going costs, have a unified service?
The price is justified. - matt247, on 07/15/2008, -0/+13you can still use your gamerpics
- Pinmonkey555, on 07/15/2008, -2/+158 player dashboard chat. Why does that sound familiar? Oh yeah, because THE ORIGINAL ***** XBOX HAD IT!
- estvir, on 07/15/2008, -6/+19You're * and if I wanted a nice warm hug I wouldn't go to a business, I'd go to my mum [or your mum].
Microsoft is a business who don't mind making money and part of that is creating products, services and the like that hopefully people will be willing to pay money for and the X360 is worthy of spending money on. - estvir, on 07/15/2008, -3/+16You're an intelligent fellow.
- elister, on 07/15/2008, -2/+14Im sorry, but the Xbox 360 owns AppleTV, hell the original Xbox running XBMC beats the crap out of everything. AppleTV is great for playing QuickTime/iTunes content, you have to run hacks it to get it to play XViD or DiVX files. Both PS3 & 360 can play these mpeg4 formats right out of the box.
But I agree in the sense that the 360 is borrowing features from the Wii. - wheezy360, on 07/15/2008, -2/+13*YOU'RE*
He already corrected you once and YOU ARE still displaying your stupidity.
Also, I find it hilarious that YOU ARE going to so much trouble to "prove" that he is a "fanboy". Who gives a ***** besides you? - WhereAmI, on 07/15/2008, -2/+13Why would they do that?
- wobegon, on 07/15/2008, -2/+13I'd hardly call the 360's original Blade interface awesome. It's not very well laid out, there are ads in nearly every section and in-game navigation using the Guide blade is clunky and clumsy.
While I don't care for their Mii60's - at least Nintendo makes them optional - the interface looks much slicker and intuitive, not to mention they removed the ads! Yay. :D - battletrax, on 07/15/2008, -1/+12You have to pay for clothes in home too.
Dont use it. - HolyChimp, on 07/15/2008, -0/+11The blade interface was great for the 360 when it first came out. When there weren't any movies or TV shows, only around 10 demos and 20 gamer pictures and themes. Unfortunately it didn't scale well, and with the thousands of items of content they now have, along with the additional features added to the dashboard itself, a new interface was needed.
- estvir, on 07/15/2008, -8/+18Can you send voice messages yet? LOLPS3.
Can you easily add friends? LOLWII.
See, anyone can make silly comments like that. - FUR10N, on 07/15/2008, -0/+10http://majornelson.com/archive/2008/07/14/some-of- ...
that's what it should have been linked to - redsox32, on 07/15/2008, -8/+18Does anyone know if with the dashboard update will be the option to save Vision cam pictures?
- ralphie81, on 07/15/2008, -2/+11Not having to use piece of crap Media Center Extender = priceless.
- mbuckingham, on 07/15/2008, -1/+10I hope they're not trying to get on the bandwagon. Yes the Wii is doing well, but that doesn't mean they should make XBOX just like it. From what I saw in the highlights of the 360 they are bringing a lot of fluff and it looked like something out of Nintendo.
Stay who you are XBOX, just make improvements. Bigger, faster, stronger...don't try to become the Wii, let them have their slice of the market. - freshyill, on 07/15/2008, -2/+10They laughed at me when I said the kids I play Call of Duty against actually looked like a bunch of polo shirt-wearing junior sales executives on casual Friday. Who's laughing now, jerks?
- ScionX, on 07/15/2008, -1/+9@harbinger
Who cares?
I didn't get my 360 for HD-DVD nor my PS3 for Blu-Ray. - BearinG, on 07/15/2008, -1/+9Aren't all ideas copy anyway?
I personally don't care if it looks like Nintendo.. or if Bush had the idea first.. Its still an improvement over the current dashboard. Its not "ruined" caus it looks like something that already exists.. Looks to be much better than what the Wii did with the Miis (which is pretty much nothing except in-game use..)
I'm excited for the Party mode (chat and move around TOGETHER, pictures, movies, games).. that is what was needed, multiple chat users in private.. - MSstar, on 07/15/2008, -0/+7alright i'll just go All In! 5$, Duke nukem forever and chinese democracy before Home
- WELLDOITLIVE, on 07/15/2008, -4/+11Straight people just steal their clothes
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -0/+7I understand how you think (who doesn't?) that the avatars are a complete ripoff of Miis.. but the new interface reminds me more of the basic Zune interface than anything else (its a simple list).
