- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13I just wish you could adjust the brightness for every game in the dashboard.
- kodek, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13No, but the TV is.
- davodavo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It doesn't look bad at all on my 2007wfp (with everything calibrated in the basic menu), but I'll give this a shot and see if it improves the picture (which is already great).
Now if we could only get a dashboard update for 1680x1050!
Slightly off topic: When the 360 with HDMI comes out, I wonder if MS or a third party will release a DVI cable...doesn't seem unreasonable. Just a thought. If not, an HDMI to DVI converter should do, I guess. - Zeush8su, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6FomulaOne this is just on the VGA adapter.
- pegisys, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@Software2
buy one of the home theater setup DVD's and a pair of blue glasses, I recommend The AVIA Guide to Home Theater
or buy the glass and download a config video, I'm sure there is a free alternative somewhere
you'll be surpriced how much better a well tuned tv can look - LordSkywalker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yes, that would be good. I have to punch up the brightness every time I play Call of Duty 3.
- NetJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's not a flaw. There are multiple "correct" RGB values for VGA. Most TVs use one and most monitors use another. When you get the wrong combination you get washed out colors and bad blacks. Many people are finding out that the 360 uses the PC monitor values when hooking it to their televisions to get 1080p output. Microsoft SHOULD have let you choose but they didn't. I'd hope they'd release an update to let you do that. But, it's not a flaw it's just a missing option.

You're wrong, whether you're trolling or just mistaken.
I play PS2 games on my PS3 over HDMI with no quality problems. So does nearly everyone else, the problems only affect some people. - knodi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is more of a monitor problem then 360 problem as my viewsonic does not have this problem.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Thanks pegisys. 99.9% of the time comments on digg are total crap. But every so often there's a useful and productive comment.
- lespaulplayer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2To access service menu on Dell 2007WFP:
Turn off display
Hold "menu" and "+" and turn on display
press the "-" button to bring up the service menu
I tried setting the offset 2 values to 0, but this makes the image way too dark to see (even with brightness and contrast turned up)
and the 2007WFP does not let you adjust the offset 1 values. - GreenPlastik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I was severely doubtful, but I must say it worked like a charm on my 2405.
- SuMizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ FormulaOne
It makes sense. Connect your $600 HD console with composite cables. Unfortunately, you have just proved you do not own a PS3. HDMI and component work just fine. Nice try you trolling qweef. Do you even own a console or HDTV, err, I mean console display device? Working in the Wal-mart electronics department playing the PS3 kiosk doesn't mean you own one *****. I mean stand, not kiosk. I have to use words you'll understand.
@Happy
Gimp TVs? You still on that? Shouldn't Sony then let consumers know they'll have issues with their 2yr old gimp HDTV? - netdroid9, on 10/12/2007, -7/+9Since when was the 360 responsible for flaws in third party products?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3My roomate and I recently became videophiles after the 360 showed us some true HD video. I rushed out and bought a screen for our projector (as opposed to a bumpy tan wall), etc. Would anyone be able to tell me a general way to calibrate my projector (Infocus X2) to get the best picture?
- DrunkMonk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I shouldn't of bothered with this, on my dell 2005FPW I tried doing the automatic WB adjustment, didn't work on a black screen so tried on a pain white screen which changed the settings value to 2, I can't get it back to 1 now and everything looks washed out, my blacks look a very light grey XS. Any way of manually setting this on the 2005FPW?
When I adjust the WB setting at the dashboard it resets to 0, it looks okay but still washed out. - joeydoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Interesting. I thought something might be the case when it went all wrong and I reset the numbers. The picture didn't change and the values returned to default. So I think all my "offset" were offset.
So maybe that's why my 100 values are double, roughly.
People can fiddle with them to whatever works. - iPirate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I also have a 2405fpw and have been looking for something like this. Bringing down the Offset 2 values to 0 has definitely given me the inky blacks that I have always wanted. However, putting the Offset 1 values to 100 negated the changes to Offset 2 and brought the blacks back to normal levels. Keeping the Offset 1 values at default and the Offset 2 values at 0 seems to be the perfect setting.
- knodi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can adjust the brightness in every game.
- chromium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When using my 360 on my 2405 VGA definitely looks a LOT sharper than component, maybe the component input on this monitor is of poor quality, I don't know. VGA looks great, but I do seem to get tearing when using VGA and it doesn't accept 1280x720 from my 360 either, it reads it as 832x624.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And apparently it also has problems on 40" Samsung monitors used by MS reps to demo games to 1up.
- joeydoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1On HDTV's and projectors the vga is mostly fine because. But, as some one said above, the 360 has weird VGA values with some PC monitors. This is settings fix is for that. Some people have no need for it but a grey washed out picture is a well know problem for the 2405.
- joeydoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The component connection only displays 1080i on a 2405 due to that display not accepting 1080pt. So there is a small image quality difference there. This monitor doesn't exactly have hi end deinterlacing.
HDDVD movie playback is really where this fix is important for me, I could happily live with the vga problem just playing games. When playing DVD's it's also less of a pain if you use the VGA.
If this is also a problem with that 40" Samsung maybe this is just a Samsung problem. The Dell display uses a Samsung panel. - delusion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What's the problem? I hooked up my XBox360 to my Polaroid LCD display, and it looks great.
Also, HappyScrappy, VGA does indeed have more sharpness than component. Granted, not a huge diff, but a diff non the less. - HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1VGA doesn't have increased sharpness over component.
- SuMizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I really wouldn't call this a fix, more like a settings change. How many of us really buy a console, plug it in and go without making any adjustments to our displays?
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Yes, I'd prefer the PS3.
Cause you don't have scaling issues unless you have a gimp TV, and I don't have a gimp TV. The 2405 (as I am typing on right now) fully supports 720p, so there are no problems when used with PS3.
And as to the PS2 games looking crappy, they don't look crappy when I play them, I tried. Either way, PS2 games look a hell of a lot better played on a PS3 than on a 360. - spidoman, on 10/12/2007, -10/+10the VGA adapter is NOT a third party product.
- sharp5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm in exactly the same situation, except instead of looking ok when reset at the dash, it looks like ass.
Is there another way to get at this? Or perhaps better, is there any way to force it to take a black sample? - HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I agree 1080p has more temporal resolution than 1080i (the max most TVs will take over component).
However, the poster said sharpness. 1080p has no more sharpness (spatial resolution) over 1080i.
The 2405 doesn't use Samsung upconversion circuity, which is the source of the problem here. - HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1No delusion, VGA doesn't have more sharpness than component. Both carry the same amount of info. In fact, you can easily convert between the two with just some op-amps.
If your system shows increased sharpness with VGA, it's either a problem with your display or because you have it adjusted incorrectly. - serpentor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1"washed out VGA fix."
I was considering postponing a 360 purchase due to the HDMI news, this pretty much seals the deal. Although I presume firmware flashable Toshiba drives won't be part of these newer HDMI 360s.. - Chameleongoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Yea... This is exactly why so many people were upset that they would have to buy a new 360 just for hdmi. Especially when MS said the current port COULD output to hdmi with software updates. I got the VGA cable to upscale my DVD collection, but I sacrifice a lot of color depth. It is very noticeable in Rainbow 6 in the early Mexico levels where it can be hard to make out details through all the washed out browns.
I really wish they would update the VGA output settings, then it would not be a big deal. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0@SuMizzle - Unfortunately, you've proved once again that you're an ignorant little ***** stain. It was you that brought up the issue of PS2 games on PS3 and although I don't exhibit the problem that was reported (by a 360 fanboy), for those with inferior HDTV's a quick solution is to use composite cables as reported by Engadget. It should be noted, though, that the PS3 can at least play 99.5% of the PS2 library. A pity your obsolete 360 cannot do that same - yet another bitch slap from your master.
Also, why do you keep ignoring the upscaling of DVD's to 480p by the 360, you stupid *****? Why don't you enlighten us with your explanation. Yes, I still can't stop laughing at that one. Like I said, it's evident you don't own an HDTV, you little ***** liar. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Please read 1up's demo of GOW via the VGA port by the Microsoft representative. It was embarrassing to say the least.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1@SuMizzle - You stupid douche bag. If you knew anything at all you would have figured out by now that PS2 games need to be played with composite cables on the PS3. Try and do some follow up work next time, you stupid asshat.
Oh, at least Sony is ***** over their install base with a new version of the console. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0@HappyScrappy - Yes, you're in the majority. However, for those that "believe" their PS2 games don't look as good as they did on their PS2, using composite cables fixes the issue.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0@SuMizzle - Why don't you enlighten us with how the Xbox 360 upscales DVD's to 480p over component, you ignorant asshat? I still can't stop laughing at that one. Do you know anything about HDTV's? I bet this poser plays his obsolete 360 on a CRT.
- SuMizzle, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Would you prefer the PS3 scaling issue? Or how ***** PS2 games look on it? Do you know anything at all about ANYTHING?! When your nuts drop and you grow some chest hair, maybe then you'll learn not to troll.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -38/+1
Dear lord, more Xbox 360 video out problems. When will these problems be addressed? Oh wait, 360 v2.0.
