- pronouncable, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1'Great! I see Microsoft decided to stop its strategy of faking sell-outs in order to generate publicity...'
Too bad the sell-outs were real. If they're keeping units held back, that's another story. - capajc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Inaccurate title. There still is a shortage if the shortage will last another 4-6 weeks.
- hadimirza, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1I guess it all depends on what store you go to buy the 360. Some people really don't expect to look at the lower quailty stores(target, etc, etc etc...)
- condorhauck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I'd like to chime again and say that the 360 has the chance of becoming the next Dreamcast. Lack of integrated DVD playback in Dreamcast, lack of integrated HD-DVD in the 360.First to launch, having Sony loom over the pale white system. 23 Similarites in all"
Sega didn't have the cash flow to keep a failing system on the market. Microsoft can easily bank roll this, and it's far from a failure. The Dreamcast didn't sell like hotcakes on launch, Sega had already alienated a lot of their fans with the 32X, and Microsoft can, and will, play hardball with their competition.
MS did make a big mistake with the launch shortage, but not a fatal one. Furthermore, like them or hate them Microsoft has proven themselves (regardless of the way they do it) as a powerful company and they know how to run their business. - e3mw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1still totally unacceptable. It's the middle of February. The console launched well over 3 months ago. Any initial shortage should have been taken care of immediately after the holiday shopping season. Tsk Tsk Microsoft.
- RiotActing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why are people diggin this story? Its total *****
- akira117, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No rush
no good games for it anyways - golfobsession91, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1shortage? what shortage? i was able to get two 360's...one on launch day and one the day after...and i didn't wait in any lines...
so are we really in a shortage? or a period of elusiveness? - Trjn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would just like to mention that the Australian launch of the 360 has been pushed back from March 2, to March 28.
I may not be that interested in the system at the moment (waiting for Sony to play their hand with the PS3 before choosing my second console, what with me getting a Revolution at launch if possible), but if you Americans think that you're getting screwed because the console isn't widely available so long after your launch, you have to realise, the console isn't available AT ALL for us, and we are likely to have the same shortage issue (if what the salespeople at my local EB games and electronic stores are telling me is true about their preorders).
Personally, I really think they should have just delayed the launch a little while, they really wouldn't have lost that many sales, sure they miss the Christmas period, but just how many extra sales could they have made considering that it is now mid-February and you guys still aren't able to rock on up to a store and pick one up without a preorder?
In the long term, I don't think this is going to have THAT big of an effect on the console's longevity, they screwed up the launch, but look at the DS, on launch there was nowhere near as much interest in the thing as there is now, and I'm pretty sure it's now the fastest selling console around. - snarkman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1they're available because now that they actual shipped, there is no demand!
- Siljmonster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is coming after they said shortages all the way through summer.
"Hey Peter Moore, what do you think about *insert word here*?
Peter- Awesome!
I love lying my way through conversations too.
But this is no digg for me. I dont trust it at all.
Considering we have gotten less than 50 Xbox360s, and I work for the busiest store in Sacramento, CA.
Less than half a year later, still fullfilling the 49 preorders we have left...out of 80 total. - Marmot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I walked into the local Walmart a couple of weekends ago and was surprised to see about 10 of them in the glass display case--all core systems. Because it was a late night visit, the keymaster was not available to open the display case. At any rate, I figured they were probably just empty boxes placed to generate excitement. The cashier on duty wasn't much help -- she didn't normally handle the electronics dept, nor did she know anything about the 360. She didn't have a key either, so I could not place hands on a 360 that night. I left my name / number with the cashier, and had them call me in the morning to let me know if (a) they actually had 360s in stock and (b) they weren't already spoken for.
I was quite surprised to get a call early the next morning--yes, the 360s were in stock, and no, they weren't already reserved. First come, first served. Oh, and no hurry--they've got "lots". They offered to hold one for me anyway, but the manager I spoke with said there really wouldn't be a need to.
It turns out they really did have them in stock, and there was no mob scene. It was a surprisingly anti-climactic purchase for me. According to the morning cashier (who *did* know about the electronics section), they've been getting regular shipments for a while now. She figured the difference was that Christmas had already passed, and the hype has settled down.
As for other retail sightings in this area (SW Florida), I saw *one* core system last night at Target. I haven't seen any on the shelves at Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, or anywhere else I've looked. It looks like the shortage is slowly easing, but at this point they're still few and far between. - Pooavenger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Within the next four to six weeks nobody will want to walk in the store and buy one.
- xboxorps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The people on Ebay are in total loss. You have people on there trying to sell the premium systems for $999. Thank god they all have 0 bids , But the truth of it is, You can pick one up online at gamestop.com for under 300 bucks used. And new for a core system $299. This happened before with the N64 and PlayStation. People feel like they have to have it. The Ipod 30 gig videos where the same way. Look at them all now. They have over stock of them.
Also The first wave of xbox 360s will have alot of problems. Don't you people learn? Remember last time Microsoft rushed out a system? =RECALL, Product replacements. I'm content with my original xbox that I just recently purchased. I just hope they don't stop xbox live for the originals in hopes of people to convert over the the 360. - Diggetydew2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So its march 19 and I have spent the last week an a half looking for a 360 premium. None can be found at BB, Compusa, Circuit City, Toys r Us, Eb, Game Stop, Walmart, Target local stores.
They are available online in overpriced bundle of stuff I don't want. So on Feb 14 they say 4 to 6 weeks you should be ale to walk into a store and get one I call it BS.
All i want is a premium with an extra controller and one or 2 games of MY choosing - CluelessTroll, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0pssst...
The backwards compatibility is *****! - SadBeef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0they had a core unit at my local best buy 2 days ago.
- harrycary, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For the record, there never was a shortage of these consoles.
It's common practice for game console manfacturers such as Microsoft to hold back shipments
thereby creating artifical demand and garnering press coverage as a result.
This is a non-story.
/move along, nothing to see here. - terrya64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll still wait for the mod chip.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The only real improvement of the 360 over the original Xbox is graphics. The so-called new Xbox Live features could all have been implemented in the original Xbox.
Virtuous - hoowahman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0im waiting for it to include hd-dvd before picking one up.

"Too bad the sell-outs were real. If they're keeping units held back, that's another story."
That's what I meant. It's so sad that Microsoft made their "strategy" so obvious. - aresef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0About goddamn time. I'm #8 in line at my EB.
- Pottersquash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0bout time, next is Revolution right?
- Superfito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"wy would a store not want people to buy their products based on what they intend to do with them? The more they sell, the more money they make."
Because stores only make $8 on the Xbox 360 hardware. They make money on software and accessories, just like the hardware manufacturer. Ebay sellers don't buy the software and accessories. - kilodelta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1this is good news for those that have not been able to find one. +digg
- antipro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There aren't really any good games for any of the systems at the momment. Its the post holiday season dead zone.
- Raider007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0dunno, when i picked mine up, i just walked into the store on a sunday morning a couple hours after opening and picked mine up...no line, nothing...
and i'm in the bay area... - dcorban, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They forgot the part where they release games worth playing let alone buying.
- hiramknick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can vouch for the 360 becoming more available, I saw three skids (pallets) of them on Friday at my local Costco Warehouse, for 430 you get their bundle pack with most of the accessories and the premium console.
Glad I waited. - boss14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0so they still suck
- graywolf323, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have never trusted Peter Moore
even when he was with Sega - markbaltes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is good news. +digg
- hoowahman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i wonder how many more people want one...that much faster because there was ever a shortage? probably tons.
- gab00n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I saw a cool game today in circuit city and the graphics was really tight, the first game i saw left me upset but now i am definitely going to buy one. Then i will have 2 excuses to get a big HD TV, Xbox 360 and the upcoming World Cup.
- fatsobob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As stated earlier, I will believe it when I see it
- renfield33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0just bought one today.... there were six in stock at the local target... now i jsut need to get my HDTV grrr...
- Luxowell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh well, i've had mine since the saturday BEFORE release...
Thanks pepsi! - LittleOni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll believe it when they start shipping more than 4 units every three weeks to our store...
- Cykaos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Maybe gratis/freepay networks wills start shipping them out soon...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I will believe it when I see it...I JUST got my reservation...3 months AFTER the release which is rediculous.
- number8888, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Too late. People who probably would have bought the 360 during Xmas would have forgotten about that thing by now or at least spend all that money on something else. I will need to save up again to get the 360. I will eventually get it but it's not that important right now. I am sure lots of people are like me.
- KamikazeeDriver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0When a giant tyhpoon in asia destroys one of your manufacturing facilities, it takes a little time to recover.
On the other hand, I also knew that close to the PS3 launch date, xbox360s would suddenly appear in abundance. - Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Are these the Revision B units yet?
- hyperpasta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It'll be so funny if the Revolution crushes the PS3 and the Xbox 360. I think with the current numbers, its totally possible.
- Jetfire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I'd like to chime again and say that the 360 has the chance of becoming the next Dreamcast. Lack of integrated DVD playback in Dreamcast, lack of integrated HD-DVD in the 360"
Can you say Gamecube? M$ may win out on the HD-DVD front since the standard isn't set and Sony could lose big time like on BetaMax. Xbox 360 is here and PS3 is were? All the rumors on PS3 being out this year are not good. - hadimirza, on 03/26/2008, -0/+0I went to costco the other day and found about 10 Xbox 360's sitting there...Well, i got my premium before christmas without even preordering it. Xbox 360 rocks, especcially with Call of Duty 2.
- Anth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The guy I talk to at BB every week about Xbox 360s says they're getting good weekly shipments now, 20-40 units/week. Three weeks ago was 20 premium, then 40 premium, now 35 core this past week. Large, regular shipments for all the stores he knew of. They still sell out by the time the store closes that day, but considering the price on ebay now is so low it is barely worth it to try and resell them ($75 profit on each unit after ebay/paypal fees? not worth my time and the hassle).
- ronintetsuro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Eh, you say shortage, I say 'open beta'.
It's all the same to The Corporation. - Swampthing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's about time Microsoft got off it's lazy ass and started getting product to stores, and it would be even better if we could start getting some games for the 360 too.
Let's see... "four to six weeks"... coincidentally that's about the same time the PS3 is supposed to debut in Japan. MS 0 Sony 1
