- Silken13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So how long until people start swapping out for faster, bigger, better HDDs?

- antiTRACE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nice!
so one question for the guru's - on the last page, its showing pics of the parallel and serial traces.. saying there is a lot more. Some of them are straight, some have a lot of curves in them.. are the ones with curves there for a purpose? Such as changing the resistance just ever so? or maybe the impedance? - Vektuz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0curves can also increase the time it takes for a signal to propogate and can be used for timing.

What did you expect them to use? Fiber for the hard drives? It is much simpler and cost effective to create a machine using common parts. Do anything else will increase costs. Sure, it can lead to modding, but is that really a bad thing? - Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Crazy crazy Microsoft...using SATA and other widely used formats. They just ask for mods to be done.
- TomClements, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't mind if people modify thier xbox, I just don't think those people should be allowed to play on xbox live! :-)
- TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I got to play a 360 at Walmart today and let me just say it was pretty sweet. The games were fluid and werent choppy at all. They were selling the peripherals already and I was tempted to get some to beat the lines Tuesday. :P

"The games were fluid and werent choppy at all."
Did you think the xbox games were choppy? - FourDoor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0When you play online then hell yes the "whole point" of being on a console is a way of helping ensure that the person playing with you online doesnt have an advantage. Why should MS support or provide any service to people who have purposely voided their warranty who can (keyword here) "POSSIBLY" cheat the system. Not everyone is as true and honest as you Buelldozer. If you want to play your modded xbox online go through xboxconnect or through xlink kai. It's free and you dont have to worry about having to pay MS your hard earned $.
If you're one of the few stand up guys in the world who only truly want to use their modded xbox to backup your owned games for personal use and go on xbox live and play fairly, there are a thousand other kids out there willing to do the exact opposite. And it is those other thousand kids that kill everyones Live online experience.
When you open hacks that provide legal ways to backup your own games you also open up piracy. Same goes with general homebrew through modded xboxs. If you open up the system so you can have one great guy or team write something useful, say like xbox media center, you have a ton of other guys out there using the same opening to develop and create CHEATS! - Buelldozer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Actually no, the "whole point" of a console is not to play games on an even footing...it's to play games.
If modded Xbox's are so bad they should just create a special corner of Xbox live for them. Modded Xbox's here, umodded over there.
If Microsoft wants to sell the Xbox Live service they should sell it to those wishing to buy it.
I was hella pissed when I was banned from Xbox live for modding my Xbox. The only reason I modded mine was so I could backup the damn games that my 6 year boy was ruining, at $40-50 a piece this is not a trivial amount of money. - ag1010, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0All ride....... My favorite -- Motherboard Porn!!!!!!! :-)
- FourDoor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The reason against modded xboxs on live is that it unbalances the system. The whole point to having a console is having control on an even playing ground. But when you introduce modded xboxs, it brings CHEATERS into the system. It unbalances game play and overall just plain out sucks! Imagine playing a game where all of a sudden your oponents were invincible and all they did was gloat about it (putting it nicely there)... Not a fun expereince.
Having your modchip turned off doesn't mean that the "hacked" files that were put on the hdd dissapear. -> Cheaters.
Anyways, nothing against modded xboxs. I own 2 modded xboxs and plan to mod the 360 as soon as the hacks and homebrew mature. But that also means I'll be getting a second xbox 360 solely for Live purposes down the road as to not worry about being banned. =D - stilz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0finally, pics i've been wanting to see.
- noghead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I don't mind if people modify thier xbox, I just don't think those people should be allowed to play on xbox live! :-)"
Why the hell not?
If you have a modded xbox, you shouldnt be able to play pirated games on live, but if you have LEGAL games on modded xbox, you should be able to play on live (ie. with mod chip turned off).
You use to be able to do that, up untill the time Halo 2 came out. Its too bad, MS would be making more money from all the people with live accounts and modded xbox. Now, if u have a modded xbox, you just dont have any reasons to get live or any legal games because u wont be able to play on live anyways.
You cant stop modding/pirating so I hope someone told MS what I just said. - gabebear, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0COOL!!! Someone finally has something about the 360's HD!!
I wonder what the 360 will do if you plug an unformatted serial ATA hard drive up to it... That certainly seems like the vector with which to install Linux! - bigz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1jeez, this has already been on the front page....
