- johnhummel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20Uh - do you have a link? Because I'd like to know, because, well, I'm cheap.
- ForlornHope, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Price drop, most of the PS3 library, great online service, some interesting exclusives (Blue Dragon, Crackdown, the halo series, GoW)... what's not to like?
Don't get me wrong, the Wii looks great. But I want the exclusives, and the occasional eye candy game never hurt anybody. - 13tongimp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14In other words, it is total *****.
- JavertHolmes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10The Consumer Excitement Index is known in gaming circles as "the S&P 500 of the gaming community." And by gaming circles, I mean 3 blogs.
- Geekbeard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Best Buy and FutureShop in Canada are both having the Premium Version with three games for $399.99 for Boxing Day. 40 per store.

from http://vgcharts.org/ - gregmo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12If I recall, Microsoft isnt selling at a loss according to an article on digg a monthish ago
- triplehelix, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7current sales figures don't mean much. we have no idea how many PS3's or Wii's would sell if the shelves stayed stocked. all current sales show is who had more product to sell out of right now.
and i co-sign. wtf is the consumer excitement index? - roland, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6There isn't really a wii vs 360 competition, its (wii + 360) vs. ps3.
- eMximeR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Actually the Wii will be the winner of this "console war", and it looks like the Xbox 360 will finish 2nd, that is if the word "winner" is operizationalized to mean the console that sells the most.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5dagamer....They have been selling for profit for awhile. I know you desperately want to hold onto the fact that the only reason Microsoft made immediate gains in the console industry is because they sell for a loss, but it just isn't the case. That $323 number also doesn't take into account the bulk discounts that no one knows for sure how big it is. It is unfathomably stupid to take the cost of a 360 as if you went to build one yourself buying all the parts individually.
Otherwise, you could say the only reason iPods are selling so well is becuase they are sold for a loss
Seriously..when will Microsoft haters realize that when they basically say "2+2=5, so Microsoft sucks" if does NOT make Microsoft look like a fool. It makes you look like one.
Also...I guess you don't understand the concept of an INVESTMENT. You put $20,000 in the stock market, you "loose" (nice 4 year old grasp of spelling, by the way) that money in hte hopes of getting much more later. - Ajscott123, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@ ForlornHope
I agree. Although I'm a loyal Nintendo fan, I only bought the Wii for Zelda. Right now I'm looking at the Xbox360 or the PS3 simply because their variety of game titles is a little more exciting. And again, who doesn't like to see a little eye candy?
I don't think it's too difficult to give each of the systems a good amount of credit for what they offer. Xbox360 was launched first and has the advantage of many more games, and the HD-DVD if you wanna throw in some extra bucks. The PS3 is a cheap version of an 8-core (but remember though that those cores are *organized*) computer, Blu-Ray, and it's....very pretty. And of course the Wii pertains to a wider audience based on age, and it provides a new gaming experience. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4angrygit, The 360 has been selling for a profit for some time now.
- damnyooneek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2no the guy is right they have a $100 rebate at Microcenter for either the core or premium. http://www.microcenter.com/rebates/product_list.phtml?vendor=50947 if you also sign up for their visa you get another $100 off. i got one the other day
- 13tongimp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The Consumer Excitement Index is about as reliable as my Pink Ponies And Spakley Bunnies Enthusiasm Index.
- username9000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1perfect example of reading the first sentence, then letting fanboy kookiness get the better of you.
- ratpH1nk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I was at Toys R Us on Friday morning (@ 6am) there were about 60 people in line for what turned out to be 6 Wiis. Needless to say, I didn't get one, again, but as the store opened, the guy came out and took the first 10 people or so in the store and said we have 6 PS3s (60GB) as well, anyone here for a PS3. I was shocked, no takers, we all left. Now, I have to say, were it the 20GB, I would have been tempted, but I just can't do a console at that price. If only on principle.
- ericrius1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I was just at Best Buy today. I said to no one in particular, "I want a Wii!" An associate there said, "We're sold out of Wii's, but we have some Ps3s!"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is a great time in the gaming industry. Just buy a wii for family reunions, and a 360 for great games like mass effect, GoW and Lost Planet.
Its a great time to be a gamer.
The PS3 is really disappointing me though...i was going to buy it because I wanted an up converting dvd player AND I never bought a PS2 so I thought this was the time to start with the PS2 collection..even bought 7 "must have" games.....but of course Sony left out upconvertion out of DVDs and PS2 games. WTF Sony? Are you that arrogant or are you just stupid? - muikano, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1profit? do you take in the oppurtunity cost? Compare that to their marketshare and they really need to shape up. Any other company in the world would have long closed up shop with the failures Microsoft has done.
Blue Dragon, Lost Planet, assasin's creed are still not prevalent on the console. Seriously, for a contender microsoft isnt doing well. They KNOW they aren't doing well. They've just got enough money to keep at it. The future of Operating Systems will be in the living room. They dont see these failures as market losses, but Research and Development.
But to say they are selling xbox360's at a profit is kindah ludicrous. 360's are getting creamed. Look at the sales. The weekly sales. the percentage growth. The number of new japanese developers. Japanese developors, by and large, produce better games. There are good american developers but Japan's got art up their wazoo. - mattpfeffer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yes, the main site (www.gamergauge.net) surveys every user that visits it (once per week) and from that comes the Consumer Excitement Index. It's still experimental, the purpose is to look at the relationship between consumer anticipation/popularity and potential system sales.
- gwolf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Maybe not dead, but in a deep coma until it can prove some of it's grandiose claims.

sorry kids PS3 is dead - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0in my opinion xbox 360 is the best packge. i have it hooked up to an hd and have the camera, the wireless headset, live, and a rechargeable battery pack for the controller. i think that with all the accessories that 360 has to offer, its gaming ability, and its price point, that OVERALL it is the best. Obviously ps3 is more powerful and wii is cheaper but xbox 360 is the best package. if you want the total High Definition gaming package at a good price point then 360 is the best choice.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2VeryAngry...there is a place for idiots to use stupid acronyms like replacing s with $, and to post ***** things that haven't been true for awhile. It is called MySpace, and it is definitely more your maturity level.

considering all the bias... the Wii isn't doing to bad....
up to date sales?
-360 7.19mill
-Wii 2.48mill
-PS3 1.01mill - HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Wow. November. That's great coverage. That covers half the time the PS3 has been out. And the half when fewer units were available.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Yeah...OK. Anther "I say that no one wanted a PS3, so believe me." right.
I saw you ***** goats. That makes it a fact. - username9000, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Specualtion says that after a year the PS3 will catch up to the 360.
Common sense says that as Sony exclusives drop to the 360's hands, over the next year, that the PS3 will ultimately be 3rd in the console hierarchy.
Use common sense people. I know that common sense amongst fanboys and digg users is silly, but for those people that use common sense on a daily basis and are neither of the aforementioned, take heed. - Talus, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7Since a lot of places are offering $100 off this week for the premium version, I'm sure their sales will increase.

this is off of http://nexgenwars.com/ - Days, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Your whole argument that Sony is dead, is based off of the fact that stores have them in stock?
Well done professor. May I ask what our next lesson in economics will be? - Days, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1@broomett
My thoughts exactly. I am sick of the hand service the Digg community has given Nintendo for the past few months. - Days, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1And you are a liar.
Get off the Anti-Sony bandwagon and start thinking for yourself.
I am not a Sony Fanboy by any means, but Jesus ***** I am sick of this Nintendo fanboyism. - themattman, on 10/12/2007, -9/+6I think that the wii will give the xbox360 a run for its money :)
...and the PS3 will be the next gamecube. - apocalyptos, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Well, that just goes to show you that consumers are a lot more willing to buy a console if it's $299 or less.

Profit based on what? The actual cost of the hardware itself? Please remember that many important things are not included in that magical $323 figure everyone seems to keep quoting from iSuppli. Important things like shipping, retailers cut, R&D, and most importantly the 4 billion dollars Microsoft has lost since creating the Xbox are all things that had to be paid for. Sure, it may be "profit", but the fact that they had to loose a ***** of money to get to where they are now makes a huge difference.
Otherwise all sorts of companies would sell their products at way under cost just to get people hooked and then make new products with a higher price tag. It doesn't worth that way, my friend! - baxtermaddux, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1if would like to stand in line tomorrow at best buy and video tape the faces of all the sad sacks that dont get a wii.
- VeryAngryJim, on 10/12/2007, -13/+5I'd say they've won by not selling at a loss like $ony and M$. No, I don't own a Wii, yet.
- Mo0man, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3First of all, gamecube was nothing.
2nd, they don't have to win over all the hardcore gamers to win, they've already won by trying to get the people who aren't gamers - whiteguysamurai, on 10/12/2007, -30/+8the Wii's a flash in the pan, like the gamecube was.
The xbox360 is the true winner here.
